It's an IKEA, the Swede has an unfair home field advantage by default.

Ah, that would explain why he's such a rabid, mad kamicrazy dog so motivated for the race.

IKEA is like a different dimension where Swedishness has a stranglehold. It's like how places can be strong in the light side/dark side of the force in Star Wars.

I'm ashamed to admit that it was only a few years ago when I realized that Ikea's colors were the Swedish flag colors.

I'm unwilling to say how recently I had the same realisation :-[

Yepp, I remember always checking the scheduled updates thing so it doesn't turn off on me. [...] I had enough and finally installed Linux, after procrastinating for like half a year.
Truth be told, however, Windows is the only OS I know where users can veto a reboot in the first place. Try cancelling a shutdown -h now that you entered into the wrong terminal window ... been there, done that, driven the 50km to the remote site to press the durn power button.

(Of course that has to do with DOS/Win originating with Personal Computers, while Unices started out on mainframes with dozens, hundreds, or maybe even a thousand users simultaneously logged in.)

Right now I'm still well in the novice status of "This command physically affects the computer? OKAY NOW let me read some manual pages and the wiki and some other stuff word by word start to finish three times to be sure I'm not wrecking anything...!"
So... I'm safe...(?) for now... :D

The last day of lab work was a complete washout so my mates and I are now going to the pub at 11 am.
I suppose the day can only get better  ::)

Welp, what a day! I've been getting my exhibits ready for the local Agricultural Show all day, (in between checking back to see whether we still have a Sigrun), and have had one of those days when carefully prepared containers slide out of the hands and break just as they are being packed, decorated fancy labels smudge on the last carefully inked word, and somebody who was expected to arrive a couple of days ago and didn't, suddenly turned up today and was time-consuming in the middle of it all. Arrggh!

However, my exhibits are in, except for the fresh fruits, for which I just missed the deadline. Pity, I really thought I had a chance at a first for peaches and cooking apples this year. Ah, well, if that is the worst thing that happens all week we are well ahead of the game! So, this year I'm showing: quince and rose geranium jelly, quince paste, savoury apple paste, brandied cumquats, and my home-brewed cyser mead (cyser mead is like a regular mead, that is, based on honey, but with apple juice instead of water).

I'm not entering any liqueurs this year, because I've won the liqueurs section for the last three years running, including overall Grand Champion of brewing for one of those years, so it wouldn't be fair. However, I expect that the formidable ladies of the Country Women's Association will defeat me utterly at preserves. I'll let you all know tomorrow night how my cyser mead went.

That all sounds so delicious! What do you do with quince paste, or what do you eat it with? I'm always on the lookout for new things to do with our quinces, because we have been producing liquor for three years in a row and didn't like the sweet made from them  :-\
