Congrats! There should be a party thread, where anyone who's recently been promoted can go celebrate or something. Or we could hold a party for Mel in this thread. Anybody up for a party?

Given that at least half-a-dozen of you have reached new ranks just since last weekend...
....maybe it's time to stop making the Forum promotion ceremonies* "by invitation only"?
I thought maybe it'd look egotistical if I took this public -- but maybe we could make a thread for promotions?  (Besides, from a Swan of Tuonela HR-paperwork aspect, it sure would be nice to have some help with the party planning...)

Dear Friends:

I confess, this forum is starting to get the better of me.  I turn my back for a few days and SO MANY of you are reaching new levels – it’s hard for me to keep up!  Today we celebrate one promotion to Ranger (Curry), one new Scout (Daéa Reina), and SIX SEVEN new Safe-Zone Citizens.

My one consolation is that some of you took the promotion celebrations into your own hands, starting with KoalaLou’s promotion to citizen: https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=5.msg38650#msg38650
…and https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=474.msg39238#msg39238
… when Daea Reina made her 250th post:
https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=5.msg38727#msg38727 [the whole conversation ]

After-party with Haiz at Hell International Airport:  https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=5.msg38765#msg38765
Koalalou cleans up:  https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=5.msg39176#msg39176

But let’s go back to the beginning.  The energetic and fluffy-haired Curry reached Ranger level a few days ago.  Their artworks are amazing (and sometimes whackadelic, in a good way):  https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=35.msg38487#msg38487 )
Sigrun fusions:  https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=35.msg37857#msg37857
Musical troll:  https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=359.msg35993#msg35993

Curry is extremely active in the Self-Inserts thread, where Karri the Cleanser-Mage has such an awesome dreamworld outfit that everyone else wants one too:  https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=359.msg38462#msg38462 (their 500th post)

Daéa Reina, our newest Scout, only joined this Forum in mid-April and is clearly on the fast track.  She has a real gift for depicting our characters imaginatively.  For example, she created adorable sketches of team as Avengers:  https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=35.msg39368#msg39368
…and showed us scenes from Lalli’s parents’ home life:  https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=448.msg36216#msg36216
Her SSSSona on the Self-Insert thread may have a long-lost twin in Tabea’s. Throughout, she always has something kind and encouraging to say about other people’s work.

We have a sizable class of new Citizens.  In no particular order:

1. “Lurker extraordinaire” Trinka joined this forum back in October, which makes her a veteran.
Her first big splash was illustrating “Sailor Lalli and the Silent Scouts” (which has inspired more than one forum icon):  https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=271.msg39424#msg39424
For her latest trick, she unleashed the evil, evil Kawaii photo filter on the crew (must be seen to be believed):
https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=271.msg39424#msg39424

2. ReturnOfDaveBro is one of our Forum musicians and filkers.  (I’ll hold you to that promise of “The Known World Dance Band” at our first-ever SSSS worldcon…)  He speaks nearly all the languages of the Known World, and then some.  He makes great posts all over, but particularly in the Comfort Corner, where his kind and practical suggestions have made me choke up a little sometimes.  https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=384.msg36892#msg36892

3. SectoBoss has created some amazingly good fiction in the SSSS world, including “The Kraken,” an Icelandic tale of terror on the high seas.  Over 20,000 words so far, and we’re still eagerly awaiting more. http://archiveofourown.org/works/3766687
This new member hails from England and is a chemistry student with a lot of valuable insight into troll biology and similar topics.

4. Paranormal Android, who joined only May 24, has made possibly our fastest path to citizenship:
https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=5.msg38768#msg38768
He lives in Wales (and is one of our Welsh-speaking contingent).  Despite his forum avatar text, he always has interesting things to say about books, computers, travel and much more (plus encouraging posts in the Comfort Corner).

5. UFO9000 is from Quebec, and speaks not only French but several other languages. She has leveraged her interest in manga and anime to create chibi-style portraits of the whole crew and even the Cattank:  https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=35.msg39397#msg39397
…and created this classic meme:
https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=271.msg18277#msg18277
She’s often found in the Chatroom.

6.  Canadian KoalaLou (and her faithful Jabberwocky, a Maine Coon cat)
are familiar to anyone on the Self-Insert thread.  She’s come up with one of the most charmingly original Dreamworld outfits:
https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=359.msg39517#msg39517
More recently, she created the Magical Girl challenge, about which words fail me:
https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=359.msg39172#msg39172
A gifted artist, she’ll be studying animation in college this fall.  Look for her name in lights before long!

7. KauniitaUnia became a Citizen while I was writing this message, so I’d better hustle!
A keen artist, her works include an adorable sketch of the crew as Easter bunnies, perfectly in character.  https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=35.msg26218#msg26218
She provides the valuable service of compiling and updating the Self-Insert thread’s Infodump, the central source of information about each participant’s character.  IRL, she recently completed a long, grueling hike for the Duke of Edinburgh’s award – which, since I'm a confirmed couch potato, impresses me.

Please assemble in the Forum Lounge for a gala reception featuring (as requested) peach juice, sparkling cider, milk, and Toblerone in addition to the now-traditional coffee and cake.  The Ranger survival tool and shoulder braid, Scout whistle and insignia, and Citizenship certificates will also be presented.

Meanwhile... can I ask the rest of you to stop being so awesome, just for a little bit?   ;)  The Forum-Skald needs a breather!  (But not really.  Don't ever stop the awesome.)

Your friend,

Sunflower

*Yawn* I have the definition of a luxury problems these days. I finally got some weeks of vacation after months of continuous work, but I have made no plans whatsoever for what I'm going to do with my free time. So I end up languishing in boredom. It's like a sudden loss of purpose.

This must be what cleansers/hunters feel like when they get leave after long missions.

Fim, can we lure you out to San Francisco?  We Californians are known for being soft and self-indulgent and probably need some troll-punching practice.   :o  OTOH, enough time wine-tasting and/or soaking in the volcanic mudbaths or communing with the redwoods or eating delicious Cantonese soup dumplings while gazing out over the Pacific and you might forget about troll-punching temporarily...

Srsly, if you ever do come visit here we will try to make it awesome for you.

A lot of people have reached awesome new ranks in the last few days!  I hope to catch up before End of
Day today.  But first, since it's a rare day that fog isn't blocking my view of the Sky Orb, I'm going to go commune with nature for a while.

Off-topic, but does anyone possibly know how I can stop my new sleepwalking habit?
Well, """sleepwalking""" read as "trying to rip curtains away from the window and climb out of it while screaming and crying"... Because it keeps waking everyone else up- especially mum who shares my room, and she needs sleep the most -__-
It happens about 2-3 (4 rarely) times a week, which I don't think is great...

From what I know, it happens when I have nightmares about my dad. And then in the morning I'll wake up with a bleeding nose and crying, which wakes up mum again and then she tells me I tried to climb out the window again. Argh. (My bedroom window doesn't even open in a way that I could get out without taking it apart, which I have done occasionally, but not in my sleep yet... So as to why I try to use it as an exit is a mystery O_o)

Solutions I've thought of so far include:
- Being tied to the bed ;P
- Sleeping in a windowless room like the hallway
- Sleeping under the bed, to hell with claustrophobia
- Not sleeping
- Give everyone earplugs
- Exorcism
But some actual solution ideas would be grand :/

I will always suggest a dream journal for sleep problems.  It did me wonders.
Sorry to hear it's so extreme though, Owl.  :(  Hopefully this sorts itself out soon.

As for the band thing, I can play some fingerstyle guitar.  So... no picks for strumming and stuff.  :/
Feel free to PM.

So, just notifying the world at large that I'm leaving for South Africa tomorrow for THREE WEEKS and probably won't have internet during that time. Definitely not reliable internet. Might look in on the chat if I do get some connection. I'll be off the forum, though.

So yeah.

Might have traveller's tales after that's over. Maybe some photos. Just hoping that it won't turn out to be traveller's horror tales. *really does not want to lose luggage, really does not want to get injuries, really does not want to get lost in airports, really does NOT want to be crooked by some annoying baggage people in Johannesburg, and also would prefer not to be pick-pocketed or shot, thanks...*

Also, Owl, pm'd you.

Well, here's hoping none of the latter happens. Wishing you the best on your travels and internet-less days!

And Owl, I'm sorry I can't actually give any advice (my sister had night terrors when younger, but I can't really remember anything we did that worked other than "wait"), but I hope you'll find some way to reduce them.

Just came home from my first day at my new job.

It was great! Since I was the only male staff and younger than most of the crew, I got a lot of attention from the kids. They dragged me all over the place wanting me to join them in whatever activity they were doing, they made me try to guess their names, and they pretended they needed help just to get my attention, hehe

Had some older kids intrude on the playground, so I had to chase them away (they aren't allowed while after-school is still open) only to find them five minutes later on the other side of the school building.

Overall, things went great, and I'm already looking forward to tomorrow, maybe I'll get some more specific duties then.

okay so I didn't find the lady gaga covers, but here's when they played wrecking ball:

(hee hee you can see the archery tent in the top right corner in the beginning of the video at least)

Entirely late to the party, but can I just say that that Monkey Island Theme cover was the best thing I've seen in a long time? Made my day :P
