I'd say it's more of a reputation for having "really strange, moldy and weirdly discoloured cheeses".

You forgot the wrath of foodie members and here I am.

Fimby. You, me, behind the sauna. I know I'll probably lose, and badly, but my love for good cheese is strong enough to risk that.

This looks a little like grostoli. I don't know where grostoli is from, I think it was invented by the italian immigrants that came to Brazil in the late 1800's.

It looks but it's not exactly heh. And according to internet, the grostoli is from north Italy. Maybe is wrong but it says this a lot of times-

I'll take you both on, and if you lose you shall eat two kilos of gamalost each.

There's a legion of Francophiles here ready to defend pungent cheese? I suppose I should expect a strongly worded letter then.

So this is where it is from. I was a little bit too lazy to just look at Wikipedia.  ::)

Is that supposed to threaten me? It looks delicious. :P Oh well I get to save face by pretending I lost deliberately (I'm not very good at fighting but people say it at least looks hilarious when I try). All for cheese.

It's vile and two kilos of it will permanently singe your tastebuds.

'Scuse me I didn't become a cheese lover by avoiding cheese people called "vile".  :-\ In all seriousness though, I'm really curious about that cheese now...

Actually, it looks vile to me as well, but that never stopped me. I eat cheese whether it's mouldy, smelly, a dubious color or all at the same time. I eat even cheese that I *know* has gone bad, just out of curiosity. I only draw the line at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casu_marzu . I've never had the pleasure of experiencing it irl, but it is the most epic cheese I know of and I will forever spread the word. (How can people not know about Camembert? It's one of the most vanilla and common cheeses out there. And yes, stinky yet delicious describes it well.)

On the cheese subject: my dad once got a french cheese as a gift from a friend, I think it was a Camembert? It smelled funny, but it was good. Isn't it France that has the "really good cheese" reputation?
France has a lot of cheeses. And by a lot, I mean A LOT ! My parents doesn't like cheese, only the very not a lot tasty ones (not very interesting), so I'm still discovering. And it's still impossible to make me eat some of them :) The camembert can be very strong if it's old, and it's a "classical".

they taste like heaven

FINALLY I HAVE A NAME FOR THOSE THINGS

even if I still don't know how to pronounce it.

I lived off of those for about a week in Budapest once. I mean technically I think what I was given in Hungary might have been slightly different but hey, I finally know what they are now!

Now to figure out how to get some back here in Britain...
