The same way they couldn't be bothered calling London New London.

Though I can't imagine why anyone would go there - except maybe university.

Waterloo is about a 9 hr drive from Boston, about 8 1/2 from New York city. The flying times sound ridiculous I would have to assume they're including airport time on the ground. 3 hrs from NY 5! from Boston. Hmm...

3 hours sounds about right. I don't know why it would take so long from Boston though. Maybe they have to loop around or something.

Or maybe it has something to do with the wind patterns going in that direction? I don't know, I'm no pilot! Regardless, I hope you enjoy yourself in Canada, Haiz!

This is just... well, hilarious and awful at the same time.

An Icelandic conworlder made a map of an alternate cold-war Europe with a number of very large and noticeable differences such as Finland being conquered by the Soviets, the establishment of an independent Kurdistan, the formation of a Balkan Federation and Austria being split up between east and west. A Danish publisher then took this map (without permission or royalties by the way) and put it in their high school history textbook.

The article (in Danish) is here, and a Google translation here.

The very nice map can be viewed on Deviantart here.

So do they just google image search for maps to put in their schoolbooks? sheesh. Its baffling when companies act like some shady dude selling stuff on ebay/craigslist type sites.

Anyway I found a pretty cool Wikipedia article today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-linguistic_onomatopoeias

What I find amusing is the fact that the publisher keeps on saying that it is hindsight to point out the errors. What should have been said:"This is unacceptable and the person who chose the picture has been sacked along with the proofreader." They actually tell us that they chose the map according to colors that were in, not according to facts.

I guess someone couldn't go more than seven year without a McDonald's burger so they had one sent to Iceland from Hungary.

Wait what?! I'm hoping there are non-dangerous species and it was one of those. Can you figure out how it got in? My sympathies, I certainly wouldn't be okay after something like this either.
