LooNEY_DAC -> Auleliel
It cannot be too long from now,
So don't let us all have a cow
The next page will be
A stunner, you'll see
So, Minna, come and take your bow!

corncobman -> Auleliel
Changing to Limericks now? Bless!
What'll happen is anyone's guess
In the meantime
We continue to rhyme
And create in Disqus a huge mess...

Adrai -> corncobman
Perhaps it is best
If we stand still, stay silent
If only for now

corncobman -> Adrai
It's probably best
As our patience we all test
Should give it a rest

Absolutely No One -> Adrai
I'm hitting F5
And waiting for the update
Refrigerator

LooNEY_DAC -> Absolutely No One
Refrigerator
It cannot lure me away
Not even pizza

corncobman -> LooNEY_DAC
Making me hungry
All this talk of food you see
I'll go get some tea

Shihchuan -> Absolutely No One
Now that was random
But I can't do much better
So still I applaud

Absolutely No One -> Shihchuan
Thank you, thank you all
And so I perform a bow
To such a great crowd

**HAIKU DAY FINAL POST** (Pg 312) Post 15
--
corncobman -> Shihchuan
Randomly posting
Any old nonsense to read
Ham and cheese sandwich

kurukami -> corncobman
Haiku, sadly, is
a dying artform, because
there's too few damn words.

Ruby -> kurukami
I search for a new
form to comment in: sonnet,
villanelle, ballad?

Róisín -> Ruby
Villanelle, yes please!
A form I greatly admire
Now rain falls outside.

…And so did Haiku Day end.

Discuss Disc, Us

Check out what captain Sigrun has found.
Her disc makes a daring bid for escape,
Bouncing and landing in a puddle on the ground.
While puzzled captain stands and watches, agape.

Emil with your fancy school education,
Show the boss lady how smart you are!
Incorrect in his object identification,
Oh Emil, he's so near, yet so far...

--------------------------------------------

Escape by Journey (with a few small changes)

I'm just a small disc out of school
Livin' my world like I want to
They're takin' books
But they don't understand
Turn plastic into a garbage can
They won't take me
They won't break me
No one could tell me what to do
Had to learn everything the hard way
I'm on the floor
Breakin' all the rules
I'm tellin' you that I'm nobody's fool
They won't take me
They won't break me

Now I'm leavin'
Gettin' out from this masquerade
Oh gotta go
I'm finally out in the clear and I'm free
I've got dreams I'm livin' for
I'm movin' on where they'll never find me
Rollin' on to anywhere
I'll break away, yes I'm on my way
Leavin' today, yes I'm on my way

Just when you think you had it all figured out
Stayin' sealed in this broken school
I'm escaping, I'm a DVD disc
I'm no gramophone, fool
Oh I'm okay, I'm alright
Feelin' good out on my own
I'll break away, I'll break away tonight
I've got dreams I'm livin' for

I'll break away
Yes, I'm on my way
I'm leaving', leavin' today
Yes, I'm on my way
This is my escape
Yes, I'm on my way
I'll break away
Yes, I'm on my way

Deery Me.

Emil shows off his gramophone mastery,
Even though well wide of the mark, is he.
If it were true, perhaps Sigrun would read these.
Oh, who is she fooling, hell would first freeze.

But wait, do you hear that sound right outside?
Nope! is the answer from Sigrun, preoccupied
Emil asked the question real quiet, he's not prepared.
Looks like a deer caught in the headlights in there.

Deer Diary (based on Dear Diary by the Moody Blues)

Deer diary, what a day it's been.
Deer diary, now I have just been seen.
Woke up late. Wasn't where I should have been.
For goodness sake what's with this horror scene.
Tread lightly, yours truly, deer diary.

It was wet around my field.
I had to find shelter concealed.
Rushing around so carelessly.
Didn't notice there's creatures like me.
Jump lightly, yours truly, deer diary.

I don't know what they're saying.
There's no way of knowing what they're playing.
Still I hope not for long they'll be staying.
Beside me, yours truly, deer diary.

It's over. Will tomorrow be the same?
I know that they're really not to blame.
If they wern't so deaf then surely they'd hear.
There's a much better way for me, a deer.
Suprised me, yours truly, deer diary.

Somebody will explode a fire-bomb today.
But I hope I can run away.

IN MEMORIAM BEN E. KING

“There is a Fawn in Danish Kastrup”
from “Spanish Harlem” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7F2sJjoJP8
by Ben E King & the Drifters

There is a fawn in Danish Kastrup
A cute fawn up in Danish Kastrup
It jumped into the room
Hope that won’t be its tomb
When normal updates on far-off Monday resume
I’m sure that we wll find out
But so far Emil knows
But there his rawness shows
As so far he didn’t cry out

There are some cats in Danish Kastrup
A few cats up in Danish Kastrup
A schoolhouse is their home
They’re still too young to roam
Their mother brought them out of doom to where the tomes
And DVDs are waiting
She didn’t know the books
Would draw humans to look
After wading

(Musical Interlude)

She didn’t know the books
Would draw humans to look
After wading

La la la, la la la, la la la la
(There is a fawn in Danish Kastrup)

La la la, la la la, la la la la
(And there are cats in Danish Kastrup)

This Beast is not a Beast

To shoot the deer that's frozen like stone.
Emil stared and reached for his gun,
Only stopped by the hand of Sigrun,
Whilst masterfully balancing those gramophones.

She assures him that it's not a beast,
"You can always tell from the eyes."
Has this healthy animal met its demise?
They could use the meat from it for a feast.

Sigrun however is loathe to shoot the poor deer.
Her priority is securing the valuable books.
The animal jumping about with anxious looks.
It's safe for now, they'd probably still eat Reynir...

-------------------------------------------------

Little Beast by Elbow (with a few small changes)

This beast entered through a hole
Like a something with no soul
Slide in shadow, feeling dread
Can't move, legs of lead

Scared reactions, startled beast
Follow her the unwelcome guest
The deer's a beast to me at least
Think that shooting it is best

Fear is not respect, correct
But it's the best you're gonna get
Quick shoot the deer that's froze
Meat feast here anything goes

Fear is not respect, correct
But it's the best you're gonna get
Quick shoot the deer that's froze
Meat feast here anything goes

“Deer Encounter”
from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjSpO2B6G4s “For What It’s Worth”
by Buffalo Springfield

We’re looting books in the clear
Not supposed to be grosslings near
Chilly rain pouring through the air
But I think I heard something there

So I asked Sigrun,
“Hey, can you hear that sound?
Danger’s ev’rywhere in Kastrup Town.”

Then out of nowhere a fawn
(Maybe it lived in this place all along?)
Jumped through a window, this hind
Looking just so scared that it blew my mind

Asked Sigrun,
“Can you hear that sound?
Danger’s ev’rywhere in Kastrup Town.”

What a weird way that we meet
The non-Rashed fauna that’s so fleet
If I could, I’d plant me some mines
But that way, it’d ruin the hide

Asked Sigrun,
“Can you hear that sound?
Danger’s ev’rywhere in Kastrup Town.”

What we sow we shall reap
These old world books in a heap
This has been a really good raid
But now with this fawn
Its advent might ruin our day

Asked Sigrun,
“Can you hear that sound?
Danger’s ev’rywhere in Kastrup Town.”
“Can you hear that sound?
Danger’s ev’rywhere in Kastrup Town.”
“Can you hear that sound?
Danger’s ev’rywhere in Kastrup Town.”
“Can you hear that sound?
Danger’s ev’rywhere in Kastrup Town.”

Unexpected, not unwelcome,
come the Rushelings in their numbers,
from their comic seawise distant
near the swamps of Pensacola.
(Or at least it's somewhat near there
by comparison with Sweden
or the silent land of Denmark
where our heroes sojourn now.)

In America its action
such as you might wish to call it
takes them into complex issues
of surprising deep dimension
and a feministic subtext
that is more than just a show.

True, these new friends shuffle shotguns,
which is not the safest practice,
so we ask them all to do it
far away from us, outside.
But they all seem very friendly
and we don't mind their ambition
for we also love our comic
and we know how that can be.

If life hands you Emil, make Emilonade!

Doe! Opportunity Gone

The singular deer revealed to be not alone.
A whole herd running through, its deer family.
Smug then suprised as they run through the zone,
Emil's look of relief on his face plain to see.

As they watch them pass through one by one,
Smiles on their faces as nature takes its course.
Seemingly safe, not from any danger they run.
Only once the whole herd's gone, they have some remorse.

Sigrun realises too late that opportunity passed.
They could have had a great meal instead of fish canned.
It's not time for the books and discs they've amassed.
Loot time is later, for right now it's dream land...

Until We Meat Again (based on Until We Meet Again by Diana Ross)

Who would have ever thought
The day could ever come
When we would see
A place like this fall into pieces

And it hurts me to know we realised
We'll only have tuna supplies
And now there's no time left to pretend
It's just that we were suprised
But you could have been meat pies
Until we meat again

Now we had to let you go
There's no way we could be friends
But you were just running doe
Until we meat again

Why while my aim was strong
I still couldn't take it
Did time have to take our minds in different directions
And it hurts cause there's no way for me to shoot you
We're so far apart
Why did we get such a brain fart

And now there's no time left to pretend
It's just that we were suprised
But you could have been meat pies
Until we meat again

Now we had to let you go
There's no way we could be friends
But you were just running doe
Until we meat again

Deep in my heart I hope
We'll see you again well we don't know
Where or when.. but till then

And now there's no time left to pretend
It's just that we were suprised
But you could have been meat pies
Until we meat again

Now we had to let you go
There's no way we could be friends
But you were just running doe
Until we meat again

And now there's no time left to pretend
It's just that we were suprised
But you could have been meat pies
Until we meat again

Now we had to let you go
There's no way we could be friends
But you were just running doe
Until we meat again

And now there's no time left to pretend
It's just that we were suprised
But you could have been meat pies
Until we meat again

“Classroom Deer”
from “The Sweetheart Tree” www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC65GEJpJQw
by J. Mercer & H. Mancini

So now
There’s a deer
In the classroom
A deer
That is likely
Immune
Sigrun didn’t hear
The approaching deer
But she grabbed
Emil’s slung
Carbine

She said,
“It’s a deer,
Not a beast, kid.
The eyes
Are a sure-fire sign.”
So Emil relaxed
His nerves a bit taxed
And the deer
Was a foe
Nevermore

Long and drawn-out was the contest
like a Finnish epic poem
that you had to learn to translate
line for line in some old classroom.
Strong and steadfast was our voting,
but our turnout was like arrows
shading heroes as they waited
for the chance to turn the tables.

Voting that much takes devotion;
so does giving so much money
to a cause we all believe in,
so good game, congratulations,
now we all dine in Valhalla,
or the best approximation,
Though there’s one thing more to say:

Rushe can fundraise like some robot
sent back from a future timeline
with a plan to murder all the
Sarah Conners he can find.
He won’t give up; he knows no mercy.
Now we know that he’s not joking
when he stands there in his sunshades
saying only, “I’ll be back.”

Based on "Trink trink Brüderlein trink" by Tom Angelripper

Drink, drink, minnions drink,
just let your troubles at home,
drink, drink, minnions drink,
vote, too, before you lie down,
Read all the deer puns and talk about food,
Just choose wisely what you will drink,
Else we might fret if we took it too far
or if we still stay on the brink!

Water Calamity

Starry skies pull back to reveal a red braid.
Reynir stirs to a sense of confusion
Where in the dreamworld has the Icelanic strayed?
Is this the real life or merely illusion?

Sitting up on his iceberg moored boat,
Wondering where it is he is placed.
Wearing a never worn before fur coat.
In this isolated and icy dark waste.

The boat has a line and lantern, significant?
A couple of oars and lined sheets and mats,
A strange sort of place he's been transplant.
Will he encounter the staring man-cat?

-----------------------------------------

Oh Water Beautiful Morning (based on Oh What a Beautiful Morning by Rodgers and Hammerstein)

There's a dark starry haze on the water,
There's a dark starry haze on the water,
The icebergs are strange in this Icelander's eye,
An' they look like they're climbin' clear up to the sky.

Oh water beautiful morning,
Oh water beautiful day,
I've got a terrible feeling,
Nothing is going my way.

Oh water beautiful morning,
Oh water beautiful day,
I've got a terrible feeling,
Nothing is going my way.

I'm just sitting and staring in this boat,
On this endless pool drifting me afloat,
I'm turning my head as I see my boat light.
But the icy black landscape's confusing my sight.

Oh water beautiful morning,
Oh water beautiful day,
I've got a terrible feeling,
Nothing is going my way.

I've woken with confusion on my face,
In this remote, strange and desolate place,
Stars, ice and dark water my eyes only see,
And just in this boat only my red braid and me.
A man left his Icelandic home
Escaped to Denmark to freely roam
With hair braided red
He got hit on the head
With a crate lid slammed onto his dome

Reynir the Mariner
« Reply #329 on: May 13, 2015, 03:58:19 AM »
Inspired by the scene on p. 318.
Posted with kind permission of awlwren, who says:

Quote
I was going to quote from Tolkien's Song of Earendil, but wasn't getting the images I wanted in large enough chunks for the rhymes to be preserved, so I just started over with my own. "Inspired by," Hollywood style.

Reynir was a mariner
Who drifted between worlds asleep
In ancient boat 'neath jewellèd skies
Reflected clear in rivers deep.

His braid behind him trailing through
The sea of stars and blazing on
As comets leave a fiery trail
Of flaming shadows as they run.

But calmer is his journey's course
And sleeps he still within his boat
Content on white and downy furs
No race to run, but merely float.

Until a worn and ancient stone
As pale and lovely as the moon
Arrests his journey and his sleep
And stays him from untimely doom.

Awake at last, he lifts his head
And wonders where and how and why
The river is and he is here
But silent skies make no reply.

"The music of what happens," said great Fionn, "that is the finest music in the world."
