Poetry collection
« on: September 01, 2014, 03:02:50 PM »
So, I figured, since we're kinda special that way and write a lot of poetry, we should have a thread here where we collect everything so that you can read the poems without having to find them in the comment section all the time.

Rules
  • Don't add any comments without poetry in them.
  • Try to add the page it is from and the author of every poem.
  • You can add as many poems as you want in one post, as long as it's clear where they're all from and who wrote them.
  • It's all right to comment on other poems, but only if you add a poem of your own. This thread is to easily find poems, filling it up with other stuff works against that purpose.
  • You don't have to find the poems in the comment section, but they should be fanpoems for Minna at least.
  • You can edit your original post so it contains different poems.
  • Limit of five poems per post (might be subject to change)

If you're worried if something would break the rules, but aren't sure, add it anyways. These are mostly guidelines to make sure the thread isn't cluttered by off-subject posts.

Well, let's start with this one from page 173

It's cold Outside, with no proper biosphere.
We're all alone; more or less.
Let us get far away from here.
Fun, fun, fun. In the sun, sun, sun.

I want to lie, catnapped and comatose;
Dawn breaking, sometime soon,
With kneading-purrs, warm as toast.
Fun, fun, fun. In the sun, sun, sun.

Fun, fun, fun. In the sun, sun, sun.
- by Euodiachloris

Then, of course, the first poem of the first page of SSSS, written by the first bard of Minna: Mikko Ojala

New Journeys

A journey new we thus begin,
we eager are for sights fresh made,
to seek new worlds, new lays to sing,
before us path has Minna laid,
that visions wondrous will us bring,
on this stage story will be played.

With child's brave curiosity,
we set on journey full of awe,
through artist's virtuosity,
new worlds she seeks to paint and draw,
her art's great luminosity,
to us revealed will be once more.

The artist, storyteller, guide,
will chart new lands and waters here,
will gather us from far and wide,
the story will bring all us near.
This ship with hand firm she will steer,
this tale will be our joy and pride,
in calm or storm you have no fear,
she'll master story's every tide.

To all good journey and godspeed,
who road have chosen this to tread,
with joy, good humour tale this read,
blessing upon your heart and head.

And then two from page 6

*From Aksel’s point of view*

O, my poor sweet Grandmother I must save
From the pouring rain and a watery grave
For she’s all alone and she’s hardly brave
(And she lives with an evil cat)

But with wind comes rain in a fierce squall
And onto the road crushing boulders fall
And I cannot get to my Granny at all
(Not to mention her terrible cat)

So please, kind sir, so generous be
And travel across the treacherous sea
And bring back my dearest Granny to me
(If you must, bring her horrible cat)

*But from Granny’s point of view*

But Granny sits back in her comfortable chair
While the steam of hot chocolate sweetens the air
And she certainly couldn't be happier there
(For her lap holds the fluffiest cat!)
- by Riorlyne

And should the coming disaster conspire,
To visit Gran, with countenance dire,
It shall not get past his hellfire,
For he is the Devil, that cat!
-by Greenwood Goat

Mikko Ojala again on page ten

Storm in Dalsnes Bay

Rain, rain rain, the rain drops fall
in patterns countless waters pour
upon our heads, the harbour wall,
the lands, the mountain and sea shore,
the wind howls, sends up plumes of spray,
there's storm tonight in Dalsnes bay.

Is world engulfed in darkness bleak
and we wait for the dawning day
a lightning wreathes the mountain peak,
there's storm tonight in Dalsnes bay.

Our world's closed in, by storm besieged,
we hope, beyond all hope we pray,
that night's dark walls by dawn are breached,
and we once more will see new day.

Sorry, quick questions: one poem per reply or all of them in one? Are we allowed to post poems that were not posted in the comment section? Can we compliment or critique each other's work? In the meanwhile, my very first poem. From before I learned the meaning of 'counting the syllables'.

Edit: okay, all clear now!

Title: This Is Not the End
Written for: the End! Of the prologue, anyways.
Author: Me, AKA Nimphy

It's the end, it's the end,
our lifes we defend,
with guns and fists
and cats to assist.
We'll die, won't we?
No we won't, you'll see,
we'll fight for our lives
with swords and knives,
until evil is gone
and no harm is done.

It's the end, it's the end,
to the dying we tend,
we see them pass away,
why not us, why they?
We're going to live,
we'll have to believe,
we'll have to survive
and be alive in the end,
because we're here,
we're not dead,
yes, we're hanging from a thread,
but we'll have to live,
we'll have to believe,
'cause you know, my friend,
this is not the end.

I'm taking the liberty of posting Inachis' prose translation of Lalli's spell/prayer to Kuutar on page 148. It's just the kind of resource a fan community should preserve.

Well, I'm opening a translation and reading thread that now. This should be a place for our own creations.

Title: Sweet Old Memories
Written for: the End of the Prologue
Author: Group Poem by me (AKA Nimphy), ThisCat and Riorlyne
Notes: I've taken the liberty of rearranging Riorlyne's two different poems, because her first poem's last line is so hauntingly beautiful that I feel it should close this poem.

Sweet old memories
of days long past,
when we ran on grassy fields
of a world so vast,
We laughed and smiled and watched
the clock ticking fast,
we would have never thinked
those days would've been our last.

And now we cry and wail,
we all have glassy eyes,
eyes with no expression
that remember those skies,
when there was no fence,
the air wasn't tense,
we would have never thought
of having these eyes.

My sweet lost memories
of days long past,
I would have never thought
those would have been my last,
I would have never known
I would be now alone,
with everyone about to leave,
everyone on death's eve.

My long lost memories
I almost forget,
of days with no threat,
of days with no threat.
We frail human beings,
on the verge of death,
begging it not to come,
begging it to wait.

Old forgotten memories
I no longer remeber,
of days when there was a community
of which to be member.
I am now alone,
nothing more that skin and bone,
waiting for memories to fade
and death to come.

Those were such happy, careless days
we went about our whimsy ways
we thought the world would only pause
we thought for worry there's no cause.
Oh, how wrong we were
oh, how we were mistaken.

Rain and rash would rush away
here for now, gone next day
we knew from every winter past
bad weather goes, it'll never last.
Oh, how wrong we were
oh, how we were mistaken.

One day of sickness turned to ten
tomorrow raining once again
our once high hopes were turning low
as rain phased into ash-like snow.
Oh, how wrong we were
oh, how we were mistaken.

In time we started building walls
to keep us from valhalla's halls
now picture books are all we've got
before the next good lucky shot.
Oh, how small we are
oh, how we are nostalgic.
When windows opened to the breeze
No danger lurked between the trees
Our dog could safely run across the hill
When Esko's news would make us smile
And Iceland was an open isle
This shooting was a rare, unneeded skill...

When no-one wore a safety mask,
Our shopping was an easy task;
At every streetside corner stood a friend.
When fences were not built so high,
Against the evil prowling by,
We lived in peace I never dreamed could end...

This happiness was yesterday,
But yesterday’s a banished place
And leaves us here, with stinging hearts,
A barren, broken life to face...

All this belongs to yesterday,
But yesterday's forever gone;
And no-one knew that what we had
Would vanish--like the stars at dawn...

Sung to the tune of "The Wonderful thing about Tiggers"

The wonderful things about trollsies
Is trollsies are terrible things
Their bodies are twisted and bony
and a wave of terror they bring

They're icky, icky, oh so squicky
Gun, gun, gun, gun, GUN!
But the most wonderful thing about trollsies
Is I'm not the only one!
No, I'm NOOOT the only one!

Ahem...
Thank you Nimphy, but you broke another of the rules while posting that :/

Oh, well. Here's a poem from page 25:

There is rain over Norway and Finland
And the borders of Iceland are barred
The rash has swift spread
All itchy and red
And escaping contagion grows hard
The ferry from Denmark has halted
Its passengers’ spirits fall flat
They hopelessly ponder
The cause of disaster
But what is the answer?
The cat.

Don’t listen when softly he’s purring
His comforting mrrrows may deceive
He looks far too sweet
With his cute little feet—
But that’s what he’d have you believe
Don’t look at his innocent whiskers!
Don’t think that he’s tranquil and fat
For he travels by boat
With a hiss in his throat
Heed warning, take note:
It’s the cat.

The road is destroyed? He’s behind it.
Your grandmother’s frail? He’s to blame.
If you're fired, and your boss
Is evil and cross
Now you know whom exactly to frame.
Provisions grow scarce? He designed it.
Your pizza gets pinched? He planned that.
Uncertainty brews
And the folks on the news
Are caught in a face-slapping spat--
The rash strikes your friend--
The world nears its end--

For your fate he has penned--
It’s the cat .

- by Riorlyne

And now a few from page 46

It’s going to be okay,
Okay?
You just can’t stop believing;
That is why we’re leaving,
Braving the ice and snow.
We’re on this road today,
A place of safety finding,
Our tracks behind us winding;
We’ll be all right, you know.

Curb the flow of needless travel;
Quarantine to save the rest.
What we have made must not unravel—
Surely it will stand this test?
It’s just another illness—
Illness we can best.

It’s going to be okay,
Okay?
This all can’t last forever.
There’s folks back there, they’re clever—
They’ll figure something out.
Let’s drive this night away—
What lies behind, forget it.
What looms ahead, just let it—
Don’t plague yourself with doubt.

All around us, sick and dying,
Nothing works that we have done.
What is then the use of trying,
Checking rash’s onward run,
To end this sudden horror?
It’s only just begun.

We're going to be okay,
Okay?
I need to know you’re coping;
Your smile keeps me hoping
There’s life beyond this fear.
It’s not so awful, hey?
We’ll beat the wave and weather,
As long as we’re together—
Survive in safety here.

Okay?
It’s going to be okay.
- by Riorlyne

The weather is unsettling
like the evening's dusky light.
We're hoping for a clear, bright moon
we're running off tonight.
We're hiding, sailing, driving from
this horrifying blight.
But we know that the cat is here
so we'll be alright.
- by me :) (ThisCat)

Just how we have escaped this
I do not understand--
So many left behind us to fate have fallen hard.
The cat curled up beside me
Rubs nose against my hand.
But could it be? I wonder--a furry feline guard?

All on a lonesome Island
where vikings still do dwell
the fear of rash and illness
once more began to swell

The Vikings surged to sea
Icelanders rose to fore
and went onboard aplenty
to guard the homeland shore

While many months had passed
now with a gentle wee "bip"
the tension once more surged aloft
on the coast guard's great ship

What lurks on deep dark waters?
What waits for them to find?
Are answers coming closer?
Or must we remain in the blind?

- by lykkefanten

There used to be mighty folk who fought with spear and sword
Their pride and strength were spoken of by lady and by lord.

Their people rose and fell again though still are stories told
of those who now have faded out to fit the worlds new mold

Among the new machinery and all the plastic bling
the warriors hide deep inside and very slowly sing.

In this world of motors and of peace they're rarely needed
but never gone, just hiding until once the need is seeded

And once the danger comes and all their children have to fight
they come as slowly and as quick as those dark shadows in the night

The folk who once were hiding in the hearts of decent men
they're waking up and coming out into the light again.
- by me (ThisCat)

Our ancestors' spirit is inherited by us,
we are as strong as every one of them was,
proud warriors by day, then drunkards by night,
though never refusing a glorious fight.
Tales were told and told will be,
of warriors travelling in sea,
though then for glory, now for life,
of both parts the endless strife.

And of both the heroic fight,
though then with courage, now with fright,
against the uknown world so vast
to satisfy our wanderlust.

And when our coasts are safe again
and our fights won't have been in vain,
we'll drink and dance and celebrate
until our breaths deadly smell emanate,
we'll drink and dance like our ancestors did
when the world will no longer be forbid'.

(in reply to someone saying he could write poetry about a steak, and swearing)

Ode to steak

Let's hear it for protein sweetly
Let's rejoice in the glory of steak
for once and for all
let's go to the Mall
and stock up on the treats so meaty

Oh rare or medium juicy
the sight of steak fill me with joy
the word umami
doth fill me with glee
and my stomac starts singing profusely

Delicious sweet beef oh so tender
the strings of your fibres so fine
excuse my word ****!
without steak I am stuck
so I'll always be beefs best defender

Based on the Fairies by William Allingham:

In the lonely forests,
On the billowed seas,
We daren't go back home now,
For fear of this disease;
Strange germs, bad germs,
Feeling not too clever,
Green mucus, red rash,
Fall down together!

Down upon the rocky shore,
Aksel's on the phone,
Ringing up his grandma,
In her flat, alone,
For to persuade her,
A rough trip to take,
Tossed about on Gunnar's boat,
All night awake.

Crying on the ferry,
The stout man sits,
He is now so unemployed,
He's nigh lost his wits.
With the bridge closure missed,
To Bornholm he crosses,
On a one-way journey,
While mourning his losses.
The boat-clan out on Saimaa,
Their cold store's all right,
They'll sup well on pizza,
'Neath the gay Redtails' Lights.

Stig stole a newspaper,
But not for very long,
Then when he came to open it,
All the news was gone!
They are not going back,
Not tonight or tomorrow,
Though his parents might object,
Causing them much sorrow.
They have kept them ever since,
In their cabin near a lake,
With their windows sealed up tight,
No risks will they take.

On the stony hillside,
Through the mosses bare,
Folk have planted fences,
To keep the plague out there.
If anything infected,
To force an entry tries,
It will get a shotgun slug,
Right between the eyes!

In the lonely forests,
On the billowed seas,
We daren't go back home now,
For fear of this disease;
Strange germs, bad germs,
Feeling not too clever,
Green mucus, red rash,
Fall down together!

Our boat floating under the starry cloudy sky,
the horizon stretching as far as can see our eye,
we sit on our chairs, watching electronic screens,
and discuss of our responsibilities as marines.

An unidentified vessel drifts in the sea,
will we capture them, will we let them free?
That is certainly not a whale (again)
but a boat of survivors, maybe in pain?

Will we save them from their long exile?
Or will we blast them off with a missile?
The answer, my friend, will have to wait
until tomorrow's page... oh, thursday's. Great -.-
- by Nimphy

'Twas no whale the radar saw
'Twas no whale the horizon revealed
Emerging from night's starlit maw
'Twas a ship hitherto concealed

The dangers that await
Only shall be revealed by the pages of fate

Argh, sorry! I'm deleting it now.

Also, I've already posted This is not the End... wouldn't it be better if the poems were posted only once?

Another question: When we write group poems, such as the one on page 48, or Sweet Old Memories, should they be posted as a single poem or separate ones?

Title: Forget the world
Author: Me (AKA Nimphy)

Forget about the world outside, my dear,
the rash that infects, the people so mean,
our little world here is all you need,
so forget about the world outside, my dear.

Forget about the world outside, my dear,
the illness that spreads, living in fear,
the world is large, even though so near,
you would get forever lost in it, my dear.

Forget about the world outside, my dear,
the reality isn't yet to you clear,
you'd get hurt outside, of pain you would scream,
you don't have to hurt yourself, my dear.

Forget about the world outside, my dear,
its evil is utmost, its terror sheer,
you couldn't know how it gets worse, my dear,
year after year, year after year...

Forget about the world outside my dear,
I'll protect you from truth, won't let it be clear,
I won't let you experience the feeling of fear
until all will be well again, my dear.

Someday all will be well again, my dear,
then all will be to you clear,
the monsters outside, how horrible they appear,
you won't face it yourself, my dear

Hush, my dear, don't cry now,
the world is vast, you don't know how
it would erase from your face the cheer

Look at the beautiful starry sky, my dear,
its light so bright, its color so clear,
the Redtail is painting, somewhere near,
do you really want to lose all this, my dear?

Hush, my baby, sleep my dear,
your heart is still pure, your soul sincere,
I couldn't stand to see a tear
rolling down that face of yours, my dear

Look at our little home, my dear,
you go out fishing, you hunt for deer,
watch the sheeps grow year by year,
it's a good life, the one here.

I'll protect you from danger, my dear
my child, you won't know of horrors so sheer,
so sleep in peace, but open your ear,
father knows best, we're good right now, my dear.

Title: Árni knows best
Author: Group poem by TBA and Riorlyne
Written as a parody homage of 'Mother knows best'

Arni knows best, take it from me.
The rash can't reach us here across the sea.
Arni knows best, keep a cat around.
If you don't, monsters will have you bound.

Árni knows best, listen to your father:
It’s an apocalypse out there.
Árni knows best, one way or another,
Something could go wrong, I swear!

Fever from the bogs,
Evil cats, landslides,
Neverending rain—
The rash, oh yes!

Also dead dogs,
Guns along the ships’ sides—
Stop!
No more—rememb’ring hurts me. . .

Daddy’s right here, you know I will protect you,
So always do as I request—
We’ve a nice land,
Stay in Iceland.

Árni knows best!

Within the gaze of glittering stars
We sit upon the last refuge,
Guarded by the sea
From terrors too great to imagine.

Sleep my child, rest my dear--
Don't believe in the world beyond the waves,
Don't listen to what the others say...

Stay my child, be safe my dear--
Within our rocky shores,
We cannot be harmed, we cannot be harmed...

Within the gleam of glittering stars
Do we lay upon the last refuge,
In a world forsaken
To horrors unspeakable.

Dong, dong, says the grandfather clock,
the doom has come upon this lot,
but tremble in fear, cower in terror,
look at our horrible, unforgivable error!

A deep, ugly hole,
evident as it can be!
A point not colored coal,
grandpa, please, forgive me...

Cover it with ink,
faster than a blink!
Down with shame you go:
your skin you dared to show!

In cozy little waiting room,
there wafts a sense of dreadful gloom,
pronounced will be a certain doom,
for nervous quartet waiting.

The pairs with glasses all a-blink,
there feverishly now they think,
how mend the pants with darkest ink,
this nervous quartet waiting.

The hole in pants they cannot seal,
the couples desperation feel,
and then begins the clock to peal,
for nervous quartet waiting.

What will the judgement for them be,
shall they be caught, perhaps set free,
tomorrow we will all this see,
the fate of quartet waiting.

people of which I've been told,
I see ones without appointment,
that are such a great annoyment!
I see seagulls, I see cats,
I see people with weird hats,
All those people may say "yay!"
I see them, 'ts their lucky day!

we need money to go there?

A research mission we'll conduct,
those ancient stories we'll deduct,

Oh, whatever, we'll just "duct".

Maybe Lalli we will hire,

Captain Eide to inspire,

Argh, sorry! I'm deleting it now.

Also, I've already posted This is not the End... wouldn't it be better if the poems were posted only once?

Another question: When we write group poems, such as the one on page 48, or Sweet Old Memories, should they be posted as a single poem or separate ones?

I think group poems could be written either way, as long as all the authors get credit.

Hey, captain, my captain,
what did we do, what did we do?
We fired at innocents,
erased them from Earth,
what did we do?

Hey captain, my captain,
why did we fire, why did we fire?
They were waving at us,
full of joy and hope,
why did we fire?

Hey captain, my captain,
where are they now, where are they now?
They are not in sight anymore,
where are they now?

Hey captain, my captain,
what are we now, what are we now?
Killing cold-bloodedly,
hitting blindly,
what are we now?

Hey captain, my captain,
look at our eyes, look at our eyes!
They're eyes of assassins,
what have we done?

On the Sea of Night

The ship upon the twilit rim
of world, like dream about it weaving
the nightly waves, breeze gentle dim,
its sails in dead calm heaving.

Where destination doth its lay,
where port, its havens lying,
does keel so keen still know its way,
do sails and pennants flying?

The winds had gone to find their rest,
no more did proud masts hold them high
the sails, white sails with shining crest,
that billowing once touched the sky.

The voyage in the world of night
is cloaked in black and deepest shade,
still dome of sky with stars burns bright,
by universe these lanterns made.

The captain standing on the bow
now offers prayers to the skies,
and solemnly serve will avow
to god who saves his ship, his prize.

In upper airs the clouds they race,
upon the rim of twilight roaming,
the Moon reveals her comely face,
she silver shines in gloaming.

Prayers she hears upon the sky,
she harks the captain calling,
thus maiden of the Moon will try
to save the brave from falling.

When ship she sees in seas of night,
on outer waters stranded, still,
she gathers all her glowing might
and winds she calls to do her will.

She sings of east wind, bold and fierce,
the western wind with gentlest voice,
of north wind’s howls that chill and pierce,
of southern wind, its joyous noise.

And winds they came and whirled around,
the vessel’s brow, sails purest white,
by will of goddess there were bound,
and carried ship through seas of night.

By maiden’s might, Moon’s silver grace,
the ship from calm and stillness freed,
sailed through the night’s dark boundless space,
to find the morn at breathless speed.

Forever after captain gazed
in awe the fair face of the Moon,
her fleeting silver phantom chased
across the seas to keep her boon.

And unto her Moon called him high,
at last fulfilled was captain’s quest,
he sailed with her upon the sky,
in her fair bosom found his rest.

Here we stand,
Doing our duty,
Becoming monsters.

Against the pestilense,
The horrors of a mad world,
Monsters standing guard.

Guardians
Risking life
Within cold mists.

Lighting the mists,
Bringing fire to threats,
Becoming monsters.
- by Robert

Boom and boom the echoe sounds
doom and doom it brings around
blink blink the radar pings
think think it rings
think of those beneath the waves

Boom and boom the pinging stops
the man cries all clear
quiet falls and spirits drop
voices hushed from fear

Return return the captain calls
return to your patrol
think of your sons and daughters
heed not the deathly toll
and think not of what lies beneath the waters

Did ever we question the order spoken
In this world broken?

We did...but Survival
Is the harshest mistress,
Bringing with her a revival
Of deepest distress.

Here's all the rest of the poems that were put to music:

A watching cat, a guarding cat:
High on an icy hillside he
Watches the flock as the sun descends,
Warm in the wool of his fleecy friends;
A poised and peaceful shepherd’s cat,
By master’s side as the evening ends

A fishing cat, a fighting cat,
Unfazed by the monsters of the sea,
Scampers swift to the trolls ahead;
Claws and yowls until all have fled;
A bright and daring seaman’s cat,
Proudly leaves the enemy—dead.

A bookish cat, a reading cat,
Curled up to rest on a scavenged map,
Studies the legends by candlelight;
Seeks to know better the crippling blight;
A wise and pensive scholar’s cat,
Through dusty pages, spends the night.

A hunting cat, a tracking cat,
Scouts the valley through smoke-safe mask,
With a sniff-sharp nose and a-glinting eyes
To lead them on under star-dark skies;
A strong and steady fireman’s cat,
Burning the lands where the sickness lies.

A wand’ring cat, a seeing cat,
Shadowing master’s quiet tread:
Through forests dark they wend their way;
The spirits hark, and then obey;
A meek, mysterious mage’s cat,
With ink-black coat and powers fey.

Another cat, a different cat,
Fond of a Christmas gingersnap:
With stripedy tail all swirled in snow,
He hides in winter’s icy blow.
A cute and cheeky heroes’ cat:
Just who he is—we do not know.

Demons, devils drawing closer
drooling in the dead of night
Dancing darkness suffocating
dreading deities and daylight
Dragging dead things home for dinner
if you can choose death you might

Seeping slimy sluglike creatures
slithering with no good will
Snow or seaway is no matter
dread surrender, hope to kill
Seek salvation in the sacred
staying silent, standing still

Still...
Just stand still...
Stand still, stay silent, dear.

Hush,
not a word,
and it will disappear.

Now,
have no fear,
I'm here with you my dear

Shush, do not breathe,
shush, do not breathe,
it's watching near,
it's watching near!

Still...
Just stand still...
Stand still, stay silent, dear.

Hush,
not a word,
and it will disappear.

Now,
have no fear,
I'm here with you my dear...

You cannot run,
you cannot hide,
you just abide,
by the rules of fear.

Shush do not breathe,
shush do not breathe,
it's watching near,
it's watching near!

Still...
Just stand still...
Stand still, stay silent, dear...

The wind bellows through the rocky cliffs,
and we're stumbling across the snow,
deciphring ancients mysteries,
staring at these long lost words...

The snow blows, it hits our eyes,
as they wander in grey skies,
we must advance
not miss this chance,
ignore our pain, ignore our cries.

Eyes are shadowed in mystery,
looking at lost history,
and we still stumble yet forward,
wind still gushing
in our memories.

Yet one hallow call, a lost plea,
some lost soul who has the key
to the ancient mystery
that we must solve...
that we must solve...

Someone put my poem to music? :D

Page 55

Inspired by and modeled after the Raven by Edgar Allan Poe
I was thinking of putting it in the aRTD poem thread as well?

Once upon a net-surf session, as I clicked without discretion
clicked through every link and banner looking for a comic score.
As I searched, my eyes a scanner, suddenly I saw a banner
illustrated in a manner unlike all I'd seen before.
"It's just the picture," I was thinking "no story can so highly soar.
Only this and nothing more."

Oh, how I was lost for ages reading all the pretty pages
watching as the hero rages when he sees there's yet a chore.
And I thought that such a treasure must be updated at leisure?
But I saw to no disleasure every day there's even more.
Quality for awe and peace and almost every day there's more.
Such skill I never could ignore.

And down below the picture-story, bright in comment-section glory
there were nice and pretty people dancing on the comment floor.
I read and saw, to my delight, for pages, not a troll in sight.
The demons of the anon-blight had never found this door.
This place of fun and stories had on bad words closed it's door.
So kind and fun for evermore.

As the tale approached it's ending, to my sorrow I was tending
with the thought that She was sending us right to the next calm shore.
For the tale I'd grown to love was just another seed to sow
for even greater tales to grow, so She'd be better than before.
"Just impossible," you say "that She'll be better than before"
And She will prove you wrong once more.

“We must keep out the rash and keep our country safe,” they said,
And I agreed and joined the guard, a monster soon to fight.
News of boaters reached us; they the deadly plague would spread,
So quickly sped we through the tranquil waters of the night.

But I didn’t know the rash would have
A name, a face, a voice:
The blast that shattered wood and glass
Would shatter someone’s dreams.
And standing here, I start to think
I made a dreadful choice;
But over wind and wave and fire
I cannot hear their screams.

The days roll on, all seem the same, the ocean rimming ‘round;
We search another boat on the horizon, cold and blue.
The radar speaks, I give the word, our target has been found;
And then the slow advance upon that small, infected crew.

But I didn’t know they’d come to us
In hopes that we would save,
And now their waving hands are pulled down
By the waving seas.
And suddenly I know I can’t—
I can’t—I can’t—
. . . . . .
I have to get away from all of this:
I have to leave.

The horror of this life corrodes the corners of my sleep,
I'll surely fall apart if I remain a minute more.
I’ll leave for land and raise a family, raise a flock of sheep—
But I cannot tell my children of what lies beyond their shore.

They’ll never know the world outside,
The nightmare left behind.
I have to keep them from this
Soul-destroying pain.
What I have seen, and what I’ve done
They never need to find;
Then maybe they’ll be safe until
The world is right again.

And Darkness will not endure

As we are in hemmed, walled up,
by oncoming of the night and dark
I keep my vow and faith,
this I believe in my very soul,
the darkness will not endure.

Though it might be strong,
vile and full of tragedy,
peerless sorrows sow in its wake,
I take comfort in this thought,
the darkness will not endure.

Even when it closes around on silent wings,
our isles of humanity will go on,
weather winds, storms, calamities,
and still the spirit whispers,
the darkness will not endure.

Where there is life, we hope,
evils how mighty they might be,
by grace of our indomitable fire,
before our life’s burning ember
the darkness will not endure.

Hope keeps the dark at bay,
faith and love they call us
forever to battle the oncoming tide,
we go forth souls with white light shining,
and darkness will not endure.

Life’s last breath until is extinguished,
we will obstinate run, walk, crawl,
to grasp that will-o-wisp, that lantern, hope,
for therein, our children, lies our immortality,
and darkness will not endure.

Disease, it spread
And knocked out
A good portion of the population
(We think; it's hard to tell you see)

Years passed
And life went on--
Life went on...

Loose cobblestones
Making old folk angry,
Here in a world rocked
By cataclysm--
Proof that life just goes on
And on and on...

You didn't know it? That's one of my favoritest songs out of all the bunch!

And yes, I think that should also go in the aRTD poetry section.

Broken twig -- could be a deer?
Show no panic, show no fear!
Something moving up ahead?
Show no terror, show no dread!
Rustling leaves off to the side?
Do not run and do not hide!
Hold your tongue and hold your breath,
Stay as still as if in death!
If you do not flee or cry,
Danger might just pass you by.

A rustle in the fallen leaves,
A whisper through the gnarled trees,
The faint breeze whistles a tune of death,
For it awaits your final breath,

Careful child, you mustn’t flee,
The beast will find you, wait and see,

A screech so shrill, a fate so violent,
You must stand still, you must stay silent,

To see the light of day

Out we go, we go
for we feel we must know
we must let our records grow.

Out we go, we go
towards no world we know
to see whatever got it so low

Out we go, we go
new knowledge's seeds to sow
we need more money though?

"Good heavens NO!", the quartet cried,
involvement all in quest denied,
though goodly sum to them was paid,
the four at once excuses made:
They were too old, would surely die,
had little children, they would cry!

Was bravery now witnessed here,
with courage did they challenge face?
No! Cowardice was shown and fear,
this yellow livered troupe's disgrace!

Can they redeem their quaking heart,
will they succeed in noble deed?
They'd better if the quartet's smart,
or to the wolves we cowards feed!
- by Mikko Ojala

To the wolves we cowards feed,
even if they should us plead,
risk their life or get it taken,
put it at danger or have it forsaken!

They tremble and cry and wail,
because they're all so frail,
between their legs they tuck their tail,
all good intentions of no avail.

But fear not, our heroes will
come to us and monsters kill,
take the place of cowards here
be her eyes and be his ear!

Hi-ho, hi-ho,
to file complaint we go!

Oh hell, oh well,
this reckless youth we'll tell!

Ah shame, no fun,
in circles we get run!

Oh well, oh hell,
that lady we'll tell
the cobblestone is loose,
it's dangerous to dwell!

Oh, go figure,
this lady won't talk,
these youngsters these days,
their head is hard like chalk!

Oh god, oh god,
how scary is she,
she suddeny got angry,
we ran off on a spree!

Oh darling, oh dear
See that young lad there?
Maybe he's civilized,
maybe he'll take care!
