best way to learn it seems to learn wich case is required by some words.

to like = jemanden mögen (akkusativ)
to talk to someone = mit jemandem sprechen (dativ)
to catch someone = jemanden fangen (akkusativ)
That might well be, considering how closely related cases doing the exact opposite can be:

to propose = jemandem einen (Heirats)Antrag machen
to yell at someone = jemanden anschreien
to trap someone = jemandem eine Falle stellen

My favourite thing about duolingo is that it teaches me important phrases such as "No es necesariamente una persona." ("It isn't necessarily a person")

They sure seem to care a lot about the temperature of their hypothetical beers

"Wann ist ein Mann frei?" and "Was ist ein Mann?" are the sentences that I'll obviously need in everyday German! Because obviously the most important thing to know when in Germany is not how to ask for directions or when the bus is coming or how much is this, but to ponder about freedom and what is a man...

Well, is a human waiting for the bus free? And is he a human being or just society's machine, if he waits for busses during his life? :P

Heh. I also came across a sentence which for one moment I interpreted as "furniture does not like him"...

As opposed to proper accents (première, deuxième, troisième bière) and genders (la bière est chaude/froide), apparently. :P
