Duolingo discussion/friend exchange
« on: December 14, 2014, 02:21:43 PM »
I know a few of the people here are doing language courses on Duolingo and I thought it would be nice to start a thread where people can exchange usernames if they wanted to follow each other or just chat about how they're doing etc...

For those that don't know, Duolingo is an online language-learning tool with some game-type elements... So you have experience points and levels and if you make mistakes you lose hearts! There's also a really active community that will almost always answer your questions if you get lost.

If anyone wants to add me, my username is so1ovei

And don't you put that coach on, when you start at duolingo. It is a mess to find out how many points you have gained in one language, because you have to read the websites code closely...

So, I friended Nimphy and solovei already :)

I've found out that I registered as "FemmeFolle" (well, it was late at night, I wanted something starting with an F and I didn't think I'd ever use that name... :-\ ). I have already added some of you.

Now that I'm done laughing, I added you back, FemmeFolle :P

Although, might I ask, just why are you not taking the Italian course?  >:(

I am, but I have to switch my profile between German->French and English->Italian/Swedish because there is no German->Italian course. Depending on what course I took last, you'll see different results for me.

Huh, that's weird. I was trying to see if I can do Russian > English (mostly to brush up on my russian, actually... my english is really good already. and also because the English > Russian course isn't done yet) but instead of saying "Add course" the button said "switch to course"... would that get rid of my progress in Swedish?

it seems like Duo isn't all that great at considering that people might be bilingual...

I don't think you'll loose your progress in Swedish, you just can't see it while your profile is Russian. When you switch back to English, your Swedish results will be back. At least it works like that for me.

And hey, it's called "Duo"lingo, not "multilingo" ;)

I'm taking four courses at the moment. It says switch, but the progress is there. Nothing gets lost.

I'm not using duolinguo for anything, but on memrise I'm either Eich or Eichewawa.  *can't remember own usernames*

I don't know if any of you have gotten a chance to try it yet, but the new duolingo "bar" system is soooo much better than the hearts! I was skeptical at first but it's so nice! I like that I can keep going with a lesson even if I get something wrong, because you have no idea how many times I have had to repeat an entire lesson because I had made one stupid mistake towards the end like confusing a pronoun or forgetting an article
