Gaudí would agree, and add:
"Always look both ways!"

Spoiler: show
Actually doing that before starting to cross the street becomes quite relevant when you go to a place where people drive on the opposite directions. (as, in my case, whenever I visit the UK, where everyone insists, oddly, on driving in the wrong way! And using Miles and Inches!)

I was nearly run over on a visit to France when I neglected that axiom; my reaction (once I'd regained my composure) was a sardonic "Spot the tourist!"

Yeah, Yastreb, that can be confusing when you travel. Or when you come into a city after a year alone in the wilds. The Flinders/Swanston Streets intersection can be bad enough on an ordinary Friday rush hour, which was when I got back from that trip - I caught a train from Moe to Spencer Street, then a local city train from there to Flinders Street station, then went to cross the road to where I was meeting my sister - near Y&Js - and just froze for about five minutes. Traffic. That was back before I knew you, but I remember, many years after that, meeting up with you in the city when I got back from other travels, and how extremely loud and confusing I found the traffic in the city!

Yeah, rail traffic in France is a tad special about surprising others ...

("One train could be obscuring another")

I remember the discussion when the leaflet handed to G.I.s sent to serve on bases in Germany was said to drop the part pointing out that "European trains" have a much higher average speed than those in the U.S. (because short & full of passengers instead of miles-long freight trains), and that hiking on the tracks is highly discouraged. I don't think that our trains had turned any slower back then ...

It is actually a traffic sign in Boston.  There is another that is worse, but for some reason I cannot find the link
