BTW, Yastreb, I hope you don't mind me pointing it, but I'm quite sure that "Guardia Civil" has just four syllables: Guar-dia Ci-vil

English allows vowel-initial syllables in the middle of words, so we hear it as Guar-di-a, like the English word guar-di-an or i-o-ta

Interesting. Portuguese allows that too, like in "Magia" (=Magic) that has 3 syllables: Ma-gi-a.
Actually I had to check it because if you "drag" the word a bit then Guardia does sound like having 3 syllables. However spanish speakers tend to be very fast... for me, at least! :)

That was kind of the point with mine, also - 'really' and 'unclear' are similarly caught between 2 & 3 syllables, depending on accent and emphasis.
