Hey, if it's any consolation, what feels like half of my fics are just ideas I saw on the forum and ran away with...

Ahahaha danish numbers XD
If it weren't for my difficulty with danish numbers I would never have found this comic actually, but that's another story.

Hee, I'd love to hear that story if you don't mind sharing it!

Well I have an email penpal from denmark and I was pracitcing my danish with her and I asked her about why danish numbers were strange and she linked me to a comic from scandinavia and the world. I thought it was hilarious and read the whole thing. After I asked her if she knew any other good comics and she sent me a link to this one. The rest is history ;)

Haha, Feartheviolas, I feel like your icon should have given me some hint you were here by way of SatW :p

Would the cats bring you golden and silver vermin beasts in that one?

I suppose they must! Immune players only, then; and perhaps instead of only cat toys you also have to buy them defensive fortifications (as I'm sure a giant could still physically damage a cat, immunity or no), maybe some of the animated toys now involve your kitties setting explosives... poor dear kitties :3

re: Danish numbers

Apparently in the middle Ages most European languages developed a counting system in base 20 where instead of counting as

ten twenty thirty fourty fifty sixty seventy eighty ninety

you would count as

ten twenty twenty-ten two-twenty two-twenty-ten three-twenty three-twenty-ten four-twenty four-twenty-ten

Although this was only used to count actually object — for abstract counting the "normal" system would still be used.

Then for one reason or another this usage vanished and only traces of it remained into French, Danish, and iirc several celtic languages.

Rollo: in English they call it a 'score', probably because it was, as you say, for counting, usually of things. The usage is now archaic, but we still have phrases like 'keeping score' and 'four score and ten'. A 'score' was twenty, and is called that because the way to make a mark on a tally or counting stick was to cut a little gouge called a 'score'. We still use 'scoring' for those diagonal slashes cut into pork crackling, or a rising loaf of bread. Tallies are a whole other subject.
