Absolutely gorgeous animated pixel art by Mark Ferrari: this compilation changes with the time of day (change the time by clicking on "Options" and moving the slider), this one doesn't, but it's prettier.
Just look at these colours - these pictures were originally made in the early 1990s.

The fluidness of the animation is a modern enhancement - to see how it was originally displayed on old PCs, click the "Classic" cycle mode in the settings.

Also, the technical side of these pictures is really impressive: they were made in the early 1990s, as I have said. Back then, computers lacked the technical capabilities required to store and display complex animated pictures like today's GIFs (such file standards didn't even exist). The pictures in those links are actually not animations - they aren't a set of looped pre-rendered frames, they are static pictures. Instead, the colour palette itself changes in a predetermined way to imitate movement. Such a technique is called colour cycling.

Guuyysss really bad news coming from DeviantART! I don't know if you guys know a website named Wallpart but it's stealing AGAIN our art. But not only in dA, also in tumblr, twitter, etc.
I actually don't know what are we going to do to stop this but I just spread the word!

Which would include your pics but exclude memes for example . Since you focussed on the pictures they would fit perfectly in there and short discussions are allowed there as well (or going off topic for some posts before getting back to the main purpose...).
