I'm hardly around here, alas, but I am around on Duolingo when I don't forget, as makethatwork. :)

So excited about Norwegian going live - now we just have to get Finnish and Icelandic courses...

The guy who started the Norwegian course actually did mention briefly that he was toying with the idea of making an Icelandic course I think.

Maybe we could try here to get some people to start a course. I've seen a lot of native Finns around and a few other people who speak Icelandic. I'm not sure how duo decides what gets to be a course, but if we put a few posts around we might get enough people to apply to get those courses started. I'd definitely be interested in working on an Icelandic course.

NORWEGIAN!! Ahem. I'll take the placement test today. And if anyone makes a Finnish or Icelandic course, especially Icelandic, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to resist, so please don't. I have enough on my hands as-is.

(Psst, that was totally an invitation to make one)

Has anyone had some issues with Norwegian? Just me? It works fine on the main website, but it's not showing up on the app.

I started Norwegian on the website. Then later loaded the app on my tablet, and the silly thing suddenly thought I natively spoke (I assume) Dutch and was trying to learn English. I had a minor freak-out. All of my Spanish and Italian progress was apparently missing on the app, and all the commands were in (again assuming) Dutch. I managed to log-out and then back in, and all was fixed, but I was seriously freaked.

Anyone else experiencing weirdness?

Languages  that are in beta sometimes take a while to show up on the mobile app, and usually cause exactly the kinds of problems you described. I'd say wait for a while, usually there is an announcement when a language gets mobile support

in Addition to sol's reply:

I experienced it with turkish and it a normal thing until the language finds its way into the app.

What happens?
Your computer and your app connect. If the last thing you did on your computer is norwegian (same with ukranian, turkish and other beta languages) your app gets confused. So it suggests you other languages. You can scroll through the suggestions given or change the language manually back in the app.

I just make sure that the last language I did on PC matches the languages on the app. So I leave the PC with either swedish, french or gaelic to be on the save side (or any other language being out of beta and included in the app)

Thanks! I've just been avoiding Norwegian for now. I should be focusing on Spanish anyway. One language at a time...

Thank you for reminding me why I used to love learning languages! I'm fangirling right now over every swedish word for which I can recognize its origins, it's so much fun!

EEEEEE Esperanto was released today!! So excited! I just completed the Basics level. Now my only concern is: do I stick with and finish the Spanish lessons, or switch and focus on Esperanto instead.

I'm on Duolingo, under the name EKFritcher. I'm currently learning Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, and German. I was up to level 4 in German, but then I stopped for a few months, and I had to reset my progress because I forgot a lot.

I heard a rumor that Finnish is the most requested language on Duolingo, so hopefully we'll see it soon! But in the meantime, here's a link to a Duolingo forum post with a huge amount of Finnish learning resources. I haven't looked through all of them yet myself, so I can't really verify how good they are. Seem to be well thought of, though.
