Ich habe mich schon vorgestellt, aber ich habe jetzt eine Chance mein Deutsch zu üben, also... Hallo! Ich komme aus England und seit ich 11 war lernte ich Deutsch in der Schule. Danach wohnte ich für 4 Monaten in Österreich. Ich habe in einem englisches Hotel da gearbeitet, also sprach ich leider kaum Deutsch, aber mein Deutsch wurde trotzdem ein wenig verbessert. Heutzutage studiere ich Naturwissenschaften in London. Ein Freund studiere Deutsch, also ab und zu kann ich mit ihr sprechen. Obwohl ich auf Deutsch gut konversieren und lesen kann, denke ich nicht, dass ich fliessend sind. In Zukunft hoffe ich das zu ändern.

I've already introduced myself, but now I have a chance to practice my German, so... Hi! I come from England and I learnt German in school from the age of 11. After that I lived in Austria for 4 months. I worked in an English hotel there so unfortunately I rarely spoke German, but my German was still somewhat improved. I currently study science in London. A friend studies German, so now and then I speak with her. Though I can converse and read well in German, I don't think I'm fluent. In the future I hope to change that.

well that was one tough mental exercise! that's the most german i've written in aaages. no :france: i'm afraid, i can only speak and listen in that one

Hi Fen Shen, definitively! I think I have to go back to the beginning and learn it from scrap  ...  Any suggestions for a good book to begin self teaching in german? 
seriously, I wish to teach as many languages as possible to my baby, so that she won't be as stuck as I was in another country! (so it's a long way to say thank you!!!!  )

I'll appreciate corrections, but the missing German words I can also check up myself. Just wanted to write this without any dictionary to help me. It is also ok to offer corrections for others, isn't it? Because being the grammar nazi I am, it's hard to resist doing so. So I hope you don't mind, Lalligaattori.

pidän tämä kieli -> pidän tästä kielestä (accusative instead of nominative)
haluan mennä suomessa -> haluan mennä Suomeen (elative instead of inessive). Could also be "haluan käydä Suomessa", I want to visit Finland. Mennä=to go, käydä=to visit.
olen enemmän vanha -> olen vanhempi (vanhempi = older (also a word used for parent, but context usually makes it clear which one is meant))

Hello everybody! So, let's see ...

I have no idea how to do the flags, so here goes: ENGLISH - Hi, my name is Erika, I'm 32 (almost 33) and live in the south of Sweden, though I'm originally from fairly far north. I devour literature, mainly fantasy and sci fi, and work as a teacher teaching 13 - 16 year old children. My subjects are Swedish and English (although my English is far from perfect). I didn't discover SSSS until quite recently, but I'm now most definitely hooked. :-)

SWEDISH: Hej, jag heter Erika och jag är 32 (nästan 33) och bor i södra Sverige, även om jag ursprungligen kommer ganska långt norrifrån. Jag slukar litteratur, framför allt fantasy och sci fi, och arbetar som lärare där jag undervisar 13 - 16-åringar. Mina ämnen är svenska och engelska. Jag upptäckte inte SSSS förrän ganska nyligen, men nu är jag definitivt hookad. :-)

Pessi, jag skulle definitivt inte rätta dig om du inte nämnt att du uppskattar rättningar. Ett par snabba kommentarer:

Svenska: Jag också har Bujinkan [ ... ] i ett kör med [ ... ] spelar olika flöjt

Först ordföljd - jag har också Bujinkan Budo taijutsu som hobby. Kör är ett jobbigt ord som kan ha olika betydelser, "i ett kör" uttalas "chör" och betyder att man har det stressigt, körigt, medan den kör med hårt k som man sjunger i är "en kör". Sista, flöjt blir flöjter i plural.

hellooo! to put a flag in just wrap the name of the country in colons, so a swedish flag would be :sweeden: only spelt correctly to make :sweden:

GERMAN (sort of): Guten tag! Ich heisse Erika und Ich bin drei und dreizich jahre alt. Ich kommt aus Schweden und Ich spreche nür ein bisse German. Ich kannst verstehe ... eh ... "grosse dann Ich spreche"? I can understand more than I speak?

and i think i would phrase that final sentence as 'Ich verstehe mehr als ich sprechen kann.'

ooo i just remembered i was going to have a go at helping with this too. just a few little things:

Ich mage viel -> Ich mag viele (the verb mögen is one of them funny ol' modals, viel/viele = much/many)

einem Chor mit dem name Another Castle -> einem Chor, der Another Castle heisst (i'm not 100% sure if this is grammatically necessary but to my ears it sounds like the right way to go)

wandere im Walde -> wandere in den Wald (the accusative strikes again! it's a case (*ba-dum-tsshh*) of accusative vs. dative here. if you're walking in the woods you use the accusative 'in den'. stationary activities however do use im)

aside from that your german seems pretty great to me. though i'm unsure of the german equivalent of 'sopii minulle kuin nenä päähän', in english it's 'fits me like a glove'.

Correct, though a tad formal. If you'ld want to change that:
In writing, quote marks or italics would do: Ich singe im Chor "Another Castle".
In speech, it'ld likely end up as "einem Chor namens 'Another Castle'".

i'm unsure of the german equivalent of 'sopii minulle kuin nenä päähän', in english it's 'fits me like a glove'.

For the fit of actual clothing, there is "sitzt wie angegossen" (fits like cast on).
For the figurative meaning, there's an entire range of idioms ... "paßt genau zu mir", "ist genau mein Ding", "trifft meinen Geschmack", "ist wie für mich gemacht", etc. etc. ... not sure whether I would want to recommend a specific one ...

ich...wandere im Walde

For "normal" speech you are almost right, Lalligaattori. You can say "Ich wandere in den Wald" if you want to say "I walk/hike into the wood" or "Ich wandere im Wald" for "I walk/hike in the wood".
However, "Ich wandere im Walde" isn't wrong, just old-fashioned and sounds very poetic. Like Goethe would have written it. "Die Vögelein schweigen im Walde." (The birds keep silent in the forest.)
