I really liked the story, dmeck!

So Onni "was excited to finally be able to help." He may have some things in common with Reynir, after all... And what a great ending! He truly belongs to the forest!

I also found the way they treated you years ago really inappropriate. You may not have a beautiful voice, many don't, but it's not right to tell a kid not to sing at all, or put that kid appart because there would be a public performance. Anyway I hope those things were said in a way that didn't leave you feeling sad or discriminated.

Well, speaking about singing, the next scene of the musical features a young, naive man running around the place, always trying to help people. But they stubbornly refuse, leaving him increasingly frustrated.... The song, called Help!, comes from a group called something... bugs? Oh, no, it's Beatles! And it was adapted by our Reynir "John" Arnason, that also sings it using some fancy round sunglasses...  8) :reynir:  :headbang:

Grey awesome!!

I actually have no voice.  I am tone deaf :) I recorded myself once and was like EWWW!, is that really me? (My mom did not either.  My grandma never sang, so it may be genetic lol)

Fate gives all of us three teachers, three friends, three enemies, and three great loves in our lives. But these twelve are always disguised, and we never know which one is which until we've loved them, left them, or fought them.

Grey, these are very clever! (And pretty much what I imagined, too!)
My favorite has to be Sigrun. Really, I can just see her. (But the image of Reynir in those glasses won't leave me either.)
Thanks tehta! The hardest part* is preserving each music's rhythm (number of syllabus, etc...). On that the most demanding (so far) was Emil's "With or Without you"... Sigrun's song was the easiest. It just came out.
Me, I love them all, and probably will be singing these "new versions" everytime I hear each music, but really can't take Lalli's "A Forest" out of my head! :)

 * : Oops, another song to check! Coldplay, here I go!

Thanks!
About the voice, I believe you, it may be indeed genetic, and at least you have a great color sensibility to somehow compensate. :)
Now, the recording yourself part... I'm yet to find someone that's not surprised, usually for worse, when hearing a record of their own voice. I surely hate mine, and my mind skilfully erases that memory as soon as possible so I don't imagine others hearing my actual voice next time I talk...

Great songs, Grey! And dmeck I really like your story, and your idea that mages have different affinity.

Incidentally I was just yesterday listening to a recording of myself talking, and it’s ridiculous how much like my brother I sound :) Not just the voice but the rhythm, and I have more of the Joensuu accent than I thought. Considering how I’ve moved away almost… 30!, years ago!! Mielikki help me how can it be so long  O_O While he’s lived there all his life. It wasn’t horrible*, just very weird!

As I saw on a t-shirt recently, "Isn't it weird to be as old as old people?"

I avoid listening to recordings of myself also, speaking or singing. From inside my head, I don't sound half bad, but from a recording device the amount of breathiness - the air that isn't helping to produce tone, just whooshing out along with the voiced sounds, is distracting and annoying. I'd dearly love to be able to take voice lessons; improvement might be possible (or the teacher might say, "Sorry, dear, there's nothing you can do about that.").

Buteo, Star says that he finds being as old as he is difficult, because he has no previous experience in being that age (he is far younger than I am, only 72, he will be 73 in June). My youngest aunt, who was a teenager when I was born and who was a hundred years old in March, still teases me about Star being my handsome toy boy.

Star has my sympathy - but he also has you, so wise counsel can make up for lack of experience!

Your aunt has a wicked sense of humour!

Well, I still think that one should sing without restraint, however bad their voice might be. It's just a matter of finding a place where no one will hear... ;D

(I'm trying to be funny, but that's exactly what I do, the "place" being my car when I'm alone in it)

About accents and their persistence, Jitter, I can tell that many people is surprised that I live in Portugal for more than 30 years, because they think I sound soooo brazilian... So you're not alone in that.

(On the other hand my family in Brazil says that I sound sooo portuguese... :D )

And now, on the next scene of the musical, we have a long hunt in the forest, performed by Onni "Young" Hotakainen and called Kade is In the Air  :onni: :headbang:

Spoiler: show
Kade is in the air, everywhere I look around
Kade is in the air, every sight and every sound
And I don't know if I'm being foolish
Don't know if I'm being wise
And it's something that I must beware of
When I try not to look in those eyes

Kade is in the air, in the middle of those trees
Kade is in the air, in the shadow of those bears
And I don't know if I'm just dreaming
Don't know if I feel sane
But it's something that I must believe in
And be there when I must be it's bane

Kade is in the air
Kade is in the air
Oh, oh, oh, oh

Kade is in the air, in the hiding of the sun
Kade is in the air, when the hope is nearly gone
And I don't know if she's an illusion
Don't know if I see truth
But Tuuri's someone I must believe in
When she's saying I'm here for you

Kade is off the air, nowhere to be found
Kade is off the air, out of sight and not around
And I don't know if It's right to relish
Don't know if I'm being wise
Now it's something that I must believe in
We won't ever be looking those eyes

Kade is off the air
Kade is off the air
Oh, oh, oh, oh

Oh, Kade is off the air
Kade is off the air
Kade is off the air
Kade is off the air
Kade is off the air

(Ooff, this one was hard to find and to adapt, almost as hard as finding the Kade. :) )

If that's a problem, I'd conclude that your singing is not nearly bad enough. :P

Don’t know if I can write something more over the weekend, but here’s at least something to do with music. I think it’s in the Poetry thread too, it’s from 2019.

Troll under the table (drinking ssssong)

You can fight and you can wrestle
You use your sword and you cause a hassle
When you lead we can swarm a castle
But can you drink a troll under the table?

You can smuggle yourself on ships
Your fylgja gives you some good tips
The powerful runes are in your grips
But can you drink a troll under the table?

You can run fast and hide and scout
Bad and loud noises may make you pout
From any tight spot you can get us out
But can you drink a troll under the table?

You make things go boom in the air
You have wonderful golden hair
Your hand is fast and your heart is fair
But can you drink a troll under the table?

You can mend us, our wounds you heal
You can’t really cook but we’ve learned to deal
You balance our team with your nerves of steel
But can you drink a troll under the table?

You are Grade B no mere amateur
You warn us by hissing and puffy fur
We can rest easy whenever you you purr
But can you drink a troll under the table?

As a team we stand or sink
Together we travel to Tuonela’s brink
But tonight we rest and we sing and drink
But first lets kill the troll under the table!

Jitter, that is a good song! Can you suggest a tune?

By the way, if you ever want to sing the drinking song I made for Sigrun, the tunes I think best fit that are ‘Benbow’ or ‘Who Would Not Kiss a Maid’.

Oh, I remeber this! It's really good! I particularly appreciate the change in the last line of the last part! :)

Now, like Róisín, I would love to have a tune for it. I can imagine something, but can´t explain...

Grey  great song!!.

I get the accent thing a lot.  I grew up in New York and Live in the Boston area.  People in Boston say I have a New York accent and people in New York say i have a Boston accent.

The accents are actually not close to each other, though both are what is considered "strong".

I think it is because some words I pronounce the New York way and some the Boston way.  So each group never picks up on the similarities, only the differences.

My brother lives in the St. Louis area and he has the thickest Southern/New York accent ever.

A New York drawl sort of.

There is a tune in my mind but I don’t know how to describe it! I think it’s actually a drinking or some sort of ”pub tune” that I’ve heard  but at least back in 2019 when I tried to pinpoint it I couldn’t find ir. Sadly I can’t sing.

Jitter, that's a wonderful drinking song!
Someone will surely come up with a tune to suggest, we can't pass up a chance to sing lyrics like these!

grey, you did a great job with the Kade song. I listened to the original, and sang your lyrics right along!
