I am very happy that a drabble I threw together in ten minutes (five of which were spent just giggling at the concept) has an emotional impact on so many!

But okay, now onto grey's story. I liked it! I particularly enjoyed the slow reveal of
Spoiler: show
the species of the protagonist.
I love to see exposition done in subtle and non-obvious ways. (Incidentally, if anyone wants to talk writing technique with me, I am always down for that.) Oh, and the potential little romance(?) was very fun as well. And I am so happy to see stories here that are not just ssss themed! Even if my own inability to stay away from emilalli fluff/angst says otherwise.

Tehta, dmeck and grey, those are all well done! Grey, I especially liked the touch of the four leaved clover, and the subtle alienage of the characters. Well done all!

Many thanks, Tehta and Róisín! I'm quite happy that you enjoyed the story, particularly the (hopefully) unexpected turn in the end, and also the smal details. :)

dmeck, I read your story and really liked it. The fact that Tuuri talked most of the time fits quite well, and so the limited words from Lalli, Onni and Ensi. Well done, and very emotional. I'm ready to add it to our canon*.

*: BTW, we should have a special place to keep the stories we consensually agreed that should be part of our own complementary SSSS canon, don't you think?

Grey, why do you say it’s not related to SSSS? Because, clearly,

Spoiler: show
as Trifolium repens thrives on troll blood, this takes place on Earth in about Y300 - hopefully somewhere else than the Known World.

My dear Jitter, clearly you're using your telephatic powers to read my mind. But since you're a good friend I don't mind.

Spoiler: show
Actually the story began exactly as you said!   :sparkle: O_O :sparkle: However since I was aiming for it to be short I decided to simplify things and focus on the "goodbye" part. As for the place, I had Lake Léman, in Switzerland, on my mind, so the "somewhere else" is right too. Shall I say "witchcraft!"?

Thanks.  That may be kinda an interesting thought.  We all have our own "cannon" , but maybe come up with a global one would be fun!!

I read my sentences and yikes!! grammer not.  so sorry

I did not know this
1. trifolium repens is clover..
2. Is Trifolium repens edible?
Image result for trifolium repens
White Clover (Trifolium repens – pictured above) is a totally edible plant. Eat the leaves raw or cooked as a spinach substitute, or dry them to add to baked goods for a vanilla flavor. The flowers are also edible, as are the seed pods – which when dried can both be ground into a flour.

Coolness

Yes, very cool! I didn't know the edible part.

About your text, I wasn't looking for mistakes, but don't recall anythig that stands out. However I may not be the best at picking them... ;)

Now, when you say "pictured above", did you actually insert a picture and I somehow can't see it, or you forgot?

I don’t think we should declare anything as “fan canon” or “extended canon”. Everyone has their own in their mind (and saying “This is canon for me” is ok). This is because while I think the ines of us who are currently most active here would probably agree quite easily on what to include, it would not work for each and every current and future Forumite. In the past there has even been discussion whether it should not be allowed to mention EmiLalli! Or any ships at all.

I think one of the cornerstones of why this fandom is so friendly is the way we don’t argue about ships or anything fan-created, whereas many fandoms have gone completely crazy fighting over such things. I think we are safer not trying to “lock” anything.

Having said that I am completely happy if you want to open a thread about what YOU as in one person consider canon or as-good-as. Discussion about it would be a good idea! (There may be such threads in history but we could start a new one). This is different than declaring something as “Forum canon” which would seem to imply that everyone has to agree with it.

Jitter, I had not thought of it.  This is the first fan forum I have been involved in for a VERY long time, so I would consider myself a newbie as far as fan forums and fan fiction is concerned.  Though instead of "forum cannon"as you said, maybe a cooperative set of stories.  There are things I like from other people's cannons/stories I would like to use (with permission of course)

Of course, I need to finish the one I did borrow from lwise 😳

I definitely do not want any angst.  The people on this forum are awesome.  So your comments are very valid.  It also allows for the wide variety of the fiction I have read and enjoyed.  So yeah I would prefer not to do that.

no, I grabbed the description from a web page.  I forgot the picture was separate.

Borrowing  other people’s ideas is again a different thing, and I would assume largely accepted by our fan writers. I may have misunderstood what Grey meant in his “collection of canon” but I thought he meant something that “we”, in theory “we the Forumites”, in practice “we the handful who participate at the time” would declare as “this is what happened”.

So, for example, if we declared Lalli/Emil as “our canon” and someone wrote them as just friends, would that someone feel their work is unwelcome? Or that they would have to tag it as canon-divergent?

We don’t insist anyone to adhere to the actual canon (as set by the comic) but calling something “Forum canon” might lead to controversy nevertheless.

But if Grey meant a discussion on the lines of “this might as well be canon for me”, I’m all for that! I’m all for it even if he didn’t suggest it :)

One possible topic for discussion is little things in canon that might inspire people to write stories, since we won't receive more from Minna.  I was thinking about Onni today, and it occurred to me that there's something odd about his story that I don't recall anyone pointing out.  Why wasn't he with the hunters and scouts in Fall Y79?  Why was he on the island of livestock and crops?

It's not because he was too young; Lalli was there and he was eight.  It wasn't because he wasn't immune; Hilja, Tapsa, and Ilmari were all there and they weren't immune either.  In Y90 he was paralyzed with fear of the outside, but he clearly wasn't in Y79, since he travelled from island to island with only his little sister.  So why wasn't he with the hunters and scouts?

Also with regard to Onni, why was he so completely ineffective against the Kade?  Breaking the fourth wall, I think Minna was tired of the whole thing, hadn't worked out how he was going to defeat the Kade, and just threw in a deus ex machina, but if you want to make the canon make sense, there must be some reason why he was totally wrong about his abilities.

two things:
Now this may be just my head cannon, but what little I inferred from the comic,  Onni was responsible for Turri.  The part we saw in the comic (Adv II) is Ensi pecking on Onni saying "I gave you one job!"  Maybe Ensi had some premonition that Tuuri was going to die young, and that Onni was supposed to prevent it (You can go into a rathole about "fate"and all that here)

The other is that I believe Ensi was not happy with Onni.  He is a different person than Ensi.  I felt his magic was more spiritual than physical. Whereas Lalli and Ensi were more of the physical.
Spoiler: show

The other thing (this is strictly head cannon speaking)  I think Ensi was either "date-raped" , drunk or did so, thinking she would not get pregnant.  The interactions with her sons seemed less than warm.

I think the fear is how everyone died so quickly and by one of their own.  I think Onni, Lalli ad Tuuri all had a form of PTSD from the incident.  Especially since they were the only survivors.  (Survivor remorse?)

I don't think he was.  Onni seemed to be more of a mental mage than a physical one.  Lalli was more physical, was able to search the physical world for trolls , safe paths and even weather.  I think though the addition of Reynir (Not so much Lalli), brought a different form of magic.  Part of my head cannon is Reynir can be like a spiritual guide.  He did that with the ghosts in Denmark, why wouldn't that talent extend to the trapped souls of the kade.

I really think Reynir is special or his magic is.  All of the Icelandic mages in the comic were female.  Given their power from Freya.(according to some mythos).

So Reynir is either blessed by Freya, (through some if the readings I have done, is gay).

Or he is blessed by Odin and would be very powerful indeed.

From what I read, Icelandic male mages were special.

Lalli did see that portent in Silent Denmark, so it's not impossible that Ensi saw a clearer portent, let's say one that showed Tuuri dying of the Rash.  So Ensi orders Onni to prevent it, but by keeping Tuuri inside walls, he frustrates her to the point that she runs away to the expedition ... and gets the Rash.  Sort of an Oedipus type situation, where trying to avoid the fate causes it to occur.

That does make sense.
