Opaque, the blanket fort! A relic of our comment-section´s lore. I love it! And also a truly great choice for the moon-prompt! (To this day I still wonder at what point the creators of that game went "You know what, let´s give the moon a creepy face!", but it´s nothing if not effective in setting the game´s tone...) Your poem captures Tuuri really well too!

Wave, that poor train-employee looks very stressed... I do hope the job at least pays well. And I really like your Lalli-picture! Especially the sky looks amazing!

tehta, oh poor Onni! But I think Mikkel got the best outcome with being fired in this situation... (I have to ask though, what´s the connection between the moon and butts? ^^')

Jitter, so many offerings! I especially like the "Family"-one. A view into the Kade, truly chilling! XoX

18: Rearranged

At some points during Tetris you just wish you did a lot of things differently. Or were able to rearrange them after the fact.

19: The Moon

In the show Adventure Time there was an arc called "Stakes" once. In it the current focus-character Marceline had to kill five very powerful vampires which were designed after Tarot-cards and their meaning. One of them was designed after "The Moon". She seemed small, graceful and innocent at first glance, but if you looked too closely had way too many teeth and limbs. She didn´t speak, but could almost mindcontrol others, was extremely fast and had incredible healing-powers. (Ehm, I think it´s obvious that I thought she was the coolest of the vampires...)
I don´t fully recall which aspects of her were directly taken from the card, but there´s some incredible analyses of that on Youtube in case you´re interested.
In this one I tried to think her design backwards and drew a Tarot-card with her on it. I don´t know a whole lot about Tarot, so I let internet-references guide me. I hope I did okay. ^^'

Regarding the question about the moon and butts, look at definition 12 here.

Regarding the art, the tetris one is very annoying for obvious reasons, and the moon one... eeeeee! I am a total Adventure Time fan, and also specifically a Marceline fan. (Her story with Simon is just heartbreaking, plus she's so cool, of course.) I recognized the character at once!

Opaque:
That's a wonderful poem that spirit!Ensi might want to read, for insight into her grandchild.

Ah what really? Eeeee! I too am a huge fan, especially of Marcy (Yes, she is so cool!), and both the Stakes-miniseries and the episodes of her and Simon remain some of my favorites to this day. :))

Ehhhh, pale white (if you're of that general color), round, rising above the horizon/waistband on cue... otherwise the kind of random association that makes another thing a "tramp stamp" in English but "ass antlers" (Arschgeweih) in German (except Swiss German, I'm told) ...

In this one I tried to think her design backwards and drew a Tarot-card with her on it. I don´t know a whole lot about Tarot, so I let internet-references guide me. I hope I did okay. ^^'
Looking at the classic design and comparing it to the one I randomly came across today

Spoiler: folded to save some screen real estate • show

vs.

I'd guess that it's a nigh-impossible mission to (re)design a tarot card such that the users will not find a hidden and welcome meaning in it. ;)

One Door Opens, Another Closes

”Reynir, come sit with me.” Unndís seemed serious, almost sad.
“What is it, dear?” Reynir followed his wife to the bench just outside their door. The children were in bed, so when they left the door ajar they could enjoy the rare warm-ish evening.
“Reynir, I… I have come to a conclusion. We can’t go on.”
“What? I don’t understand you, Unndís. What do you mean?”
“This…” she was vaguely gesturing at both of them, as well as towards their home. “This is not your destiny, Reynir. Not for ever.”
“Not my…? But… you are my wife! Of course you are my destiny forever!”

“No, love. You are not one for such domestic comfort. I know you crave adventure.”
“No, Unndís! You are wrong! I promised to stay with you. Have I ever complained about our life?”
“No you haven’t. But I know you. I can tell you feel diminished. You cannot be stuck to this village. This island. And I cannot be stuck waiting for you.”

“Unndís, I would never ever leave you! And the children!”
“I know that, Reynir. That’s why I have to do it.”
“Are you… let me get this straight. Are you telling me that we should divorce?”
“No. I’m telling you we will divorce. You have to go find your purpose, and I have to be free to look for mine.”
“But… I want to stay here! Stay home with you.”
”But you don’t. Not fully. Staying would not be right, not for either of us.”
“But the children…”
“They are always your children. You will always be welcome here, as their father, as a beloved friend. Just not my husband anymore.”
“We made a promise! Asked for Freya’s blessing!”
“Yes we did. And she did bless us! What else do you call three healthy, wonderful children? We have received our boon!”
“I… can I… can we at least consider this for a while?”
“Of course. There is no hurry. But my mind is made up, as this is what my heart tells me.”

That night, sleeping next to the woman who had been his (admittedly, on and off) sweetheart since their teenage years, Reynir had his first omen dream in several years. He saw different landscapes, mountains and lava fields of his native Iceland as well as hills covered in mighty forests and great lakes studded with green islands. He saw roaring rivers and stormy seas, warm sun and fields blanketed in snow. And galdastrafir, staves everywhere. They were glowing, growing, forming and etching everywhere in all the lands and seas he saw. And he felt the life in all that land, and somehow touched it, and was touched by it. And death too, disease and healing, hurt and happiness of all things that were still alive in the wounded world. Sometimes it was awesome, sometimes scary, sometimes outright horrible. And all through these visions, he felt another with him, a presence and support of a companion. He didn’t see, who it was, but he felt familiar.

Bit of emotional whiplash here, fer sherr.
tehta, that is one perfectly crafted bit of fluff and nonsense.   :mikkel:
Opaque, again a beautifully evocative piece, and I love the rhythm of it.
Mirasol, a nice Tarot redesign is *chef's kiss* for the prompt.  I don't know this character, but I find it interesting that the reversed card would have the pointy bit on her head pointing down, like a blade or stylus.  Both of those can be used to reveal the hidden elements of the Moon from the upright card.
Jitter, your story would also tie into Marriage, and (very tangientally) Familiar.  Although I would hope Unndís is a seithkona as well, else this would be a helluva shock.

My idea for One Door Opens, Another Closes was a corridor in Odense hospital with the classic comedy premise of various bits popping in and out of the doors - Mikkel & Sigrun, socktroll, Lalli, ghosts, the skull-encrusted giant.... but it got to be too complicated, plus uurrrggggh perspective.  I may return to this, but it ain't'a happenin' today.

20.10.2021 Birth

Wow! I just thought about it, and yes, it seems that Mia had a kid in her sixties. Pretty good for a godless Swede! (But giving Torbjörn that somewhat scandalous origin--he could even be out of wedlock, which a prissy family might care about--makes so much sense! Headcanon adopted.)

Jitter, your story made me very sad, because of its realism. Sometimes love is not enough... But hey, maybe your Reynir is the same as mine, below!

Now for the main part: something very simple today! 150 words of lunchtime content.

The baby was healthy, and genuinely adorable. It was only with reluctance that Árni handed it back to Sigríður and stepped back, to give both their mothers better access.

He found himself standing next to Aunt Helga, who was yawning broadly. At first, he felt offended--how could anyone be bored by this baby!--but then he understood.

“Did you not sleep well?” he asked. “Any dreams?”

“Yes, but not the kind you hope for. Nothing prophetic about the baby,” she said, yawning again. “No, I dreamt of pure nonsense. Endless forests, huge ancient cars, land-beasts. You, but much younger, in a fur cape. Or without the cape, in a boat with a man with a bad haircut, rowing past strange trees, like ferns on a stick. And spirits. So, so many spirits, sad, and angry, and joyous.” She rubbed her eyes. “I really should not have eaten all that cheese.”

Great contributions, everyone!
I'm busy today, moving my old mother to a new apartment, smaller but closer to where I live, so I won't be able to do much. Hopefully tomorrow all will be settled...

I won't append this to my previous comment because it is very different.

Day 22 - Death - the card of closure, moving to the next phase - sometimes that means a literal death, sometimes it's just clearing away that which is dying.

Death reversed is not life, it is stagnation - stuck and unable to move on.

JoB, oooh, the werewolf-card looks really cool! And the explanation on it seems pretty in line with the character I drew. If I remember correctly they did it in the show so that the card´s normal and upside down meaning would both apply to the vampire´s designs and to the character development Marceline would go through in that episode. I always found that such a fascinating concept for a story!

Jitter, what a bittersweet scene! But sometimes that´s the only way to move foreward.

tehta, yes, nothing prophetic indeed... Now is it a blessing or a curse Reynir and his dad look so alike? :reynir:

Wave, hehe, the silliness is much apprechiated. And Veeti dismissing all the "unimportant" stuff and jumping right to names is hilarious. :'D (His suggestions though are sure something...) The design of your card reminds me a bit of "The Scream" by Munch, which I think is very fitting.

20: One door opens, another closes

Note to self: even though I always think it won´t take longer if I don´t do lines, I´m absolutely wrong and I will regret it.

I chose to ignore the existential crisis this prompt gave me and drew more silly fanart, again for Splatoon. :V
The two (so far) existing games in the franchise have started a tradition that when one game´s "lifespan" comes to an end, it will hold a final event where the community gets to vote for and fight over two possibilities which will influence the next game´s plot to a degree. And even though the team I was in favor of won this time (team Chaos) and the trailers for the third game look great, I can´t help but feel just a little bit sad that this also means we´ll never get to see (outside of fanfiction) what the other option would have entailed.

21: Birth

I drew another witch-character, this time a young witch waiting for his familiar to finally hatch. I wanted to use a similar coloring as the background on my tarot-card since I thought it looked nice, but without any real bright colors to balance it out it didn´t turn out as well as I hoped... :P

I have written several births so didn’t feel like another one but here’s a haiku for birth as well as death

Yellow leaves falling
Disappearing under snow
Nourish the new growth

(Yes, I was raking leaves the garden today. Again. The trees are lovely, but there is a lot of raking!)

Mirasol I like the color scheme of your Birth! The other one is interesting too, although again I don’t know the game. But Tetris I do know! No rearranging!

Wave I too was immediately reminded of The Scream with the Death card, except for the deadly colors. And the Birth is great, Tuuli looks like the crazy person she was designated in the beginning :)

Tehta it could well be the same Reynir! Maybe he will get to see his palm trees after all!

And thanks for the comments on the divorce piece. I find it overly soppy myself. I needed a piece for the Spirit House arc resolving Reynir’s children while still allowing him to be with Onni. I think it needs more work but it serves the purpose for now.

22.10.2021 Death

I do plan to leave comments on others' pieces, but it will have to wait until tomorrow!

For now, hmm. I had asked on Discord whom I should kill horribly, and the eventual suggestion was 'Sigrun, in a way that keeps her out of Valhalla. For example, by food-poisoning caused by Mikkel's cooking'. I think I could have made this work, but in the end I went off in a completely different direction, since the last few comic pages have put me in a more Hotakainen mood. I am not sure I like this: I think it is the most dramatic thing I have written outside of an Emil POV. But we know something like this must have happened, don't we?

Spoiler: show
Onni had been bracing for death ever since hearing the first remote scream. Every new scream, every gunshot, every plume of smoke spotted across the water had increased the tension in his body, until moving his stiff limbs through his daily chores required a deliberate effort. Sleep felt impossible. He’d sit there in the night, holding Tuuri and trying not to think about anything except the practical things he could or should do.

In the end, sheer exhaustion dragged him down and into his haven, where he barely took in the gloomy sky before drifting off, again, the rock wall at his back.

And then the built up tension broke, horribly: something snapped inside him -- HIS FATHER WAS DEAD -- and he sat up wide awake, heart pounding, with only just enough presence of mind to catch his sister before she slid to the ground, and to lay her down gently, instead.

Luckily, she did not wake. Her face remained peaceful, untroubled. How would he tell her? How would he help her through it? That was the important thing now, not the broken tangle in his chest. He was needed. He drew into himself, tried to find his composure--and was glad of it, when he felt his heart clench again; an aftershock? A second death? But why did it feel so much like the first?

His question was answered when Lalli raced out of his dark corner and past him, towards the dark water of the lake. Onni staggered to his feet, and ran after, stumbling, far too slow, reaching him only when they were both already knee-deep.

Lalli stopped then, before Onni had even placed a hand on his shoulder.  And Onni hated himself, because his first coherent though was, “At least he won’t need to be told.”

“We will be okay,” he said, instead, feeling his eyes moisten.
