Thank you for the nice words. I hope my mom will like it too.

Did test some new paper. The result looks funny. I think I have a candidate for a new type of paper.

One thing that is interesting here is one thing that I struggle with in watercolour - you have worked very wet, and yet have avoided the dreaded swamp muck colour.  You also have areas which are untouched in the surrounding wet, but don't appear to have a specific resist on them?

I did test the masking fluid too I bought. And I tend to work very very wet. In this case I put there a lot of water and then two brush strokes ocre two in blue to make the sides and one of carmine. In my experience it is important not to stir much around in very watery paintings or to add a gazillion of other colors. If I wanted a different color or shadows or something else I would have let it completely dry and then paint over it. This way I avoid ending up with something latte macchiato colored.

I am still trying to learn how to paint people. Took a lot of time because I was not feeling very good but the shading works and the depicted person does not completely hate it.

Once I got past the GAH! factor, I could appreciate what a great job you did with the very tricky lighting!

Thank you. And yes the lighting was tricky.

I am still practicing portraits.

This turned out not so bad (approved by depicted person) and is less special interest than the last.

Hey, nice one!  He has life in him, that most difficult aspect to depict!

These watercolours are killing me, omg! How did you achieve that blood effect in the one before last though?

@wavewright62 , who said you need to put lino on your wood for a carving? I mean yes, lino is easier and faster to cut...personally though, I prefer doing relief on actual WOOD (I've mostly done basswood, probably the softest and easiest). Lino and MDF lack that textural quality that I love in real wood relief prints...though you'd still have to get used to a harder material, as well as learning how to carve with a grain involved! Very different from a medium like lino where you can carve in any direction without a care lol
But omg I love your monotypes!! What tools do you use to make them?

What effect exactly? I just painted some blood with my preferred mixture for it natural carmine with a little bit of black.

Ohh so just white highlights in acrylic/gouache? It looks 3D (or relief/stacked paint)

the highlights are not paintet at all. it is just the white of the paper. this very white reflections should make it look like a liquid.

Just the paper? Wow! Just wow! It is so well done! It looks like a 3D effect of thick blood.

It looks like a 3D effect of thick blood.

That was what I wanted to achieve. I am very happy how good it worked. But I needed a smaller brush to paint near the white highlights with some precision.
