I attended a symposium way back in April, and ended up with all kinds of cool stuff in the goodie bag and fascinating presentations on how to use them.  One of those was Cretacolour, a watercolour pencil.  Well, I finally dug my set out today, inspired by some King Sweetie peppers from the market.  They are very shapely, and I set them up with my string of chunky mabe pearls which are similarly idiosyncratic.  It was certainly a challenge!
I ended up doing some augmentation from my grandma's old watercolour set, since there was not a good enough yellow in the cretacolour set, but not before almost giving up on the mess.  I'm not really happy with how this turned out, but I learnt a lot, and it's always good to try something different.

Wow Wave, that looks like a challenge! And, without seeing the model of course, it looks to me you did well.

Wave,
That really looks great.  Before I read what the necklace was, I thought it looked like teeth or crumpled up tissue paper.  Though looking at it closer, you can see that it is neither...

I took a reference photo before I started, although I adjusted my composition after taking this shot.  (looking at this makes me more unsatisfied with how the picture turned out, but oh well)  I include it to show off those chunky weirdo mabe pearls.

Looking at the painting and the picture, I think you were spot on.  The peppers are especially well done.

Moredhel, that's some lovely calligraphy! (For Róisín - the image file seems quite large, it takes a while to load)

My mother owns a Chinese calligraphy set and when we were kids she got it out a few times and taught us how to write with the brushes. Unfortunately my language skills are atrocious and my Chinese name is the only set of characters I actually remember how to write, but I remember being taught how to hold the brushes correctly and rubbing the ink stick onto the damp stone to get the ink for our brushes. Maybe I should get it out again and try some more calligraphy myself sometime (or even ink painting with the calligraphy brushes - my mother has her grandmother's autograph book from the 1930s and there's an amazing painting in there that a friend of hers did).

I can see it now after refreshing the page. Beautiful. My youngest son also has a calligraphy set, which one of the ancient rels, who was a linguist and diplomat, brought back for him from Asia along with a huge stack of Chinese and Japanese comic books which my boys used to begin teaching themselves to read Mandarin and several other languages. The Asian languages have always been hard for me, but my sons and my youngest daughter took to them easily. I do better with the European and Aboriginal languages. The most I can manage in Chinese and Japanese is plant names, and only a little more than that in Sanscrit. But calligraphy is beautiful.

Moredhel, I can’t see your work.

We had a connectivity problem here so my server was unreachable for a few days.

And making the ink is really nice I think it is quite relaxing. Chinese was an experiment normally I write korean with brushes and ink (it is a much easier alphabet).

I love how expressive this is, and you captured the shine of her hair really nicely as well!
