Kerma (Heinävesi) to Marjala (Joensuu)
1st July
Scout: Jitter (assisted by family and doggo)
Areas cheked: East of Kermajärvi station, Ylämylly. routes between in Heinävesi, Liperi and Joensuu, Eastern Finland
Summary of findings: trolls detected: 0 Kades detected: 0 Signs of corruption: none

Report: Kermajärvi station was inspected at around 19:30 on the scouting day, after which the party proceeded towards generally eastward direction along Route 476 and on to Ylämylly and towards Joensuu. The route of the team was followed past Vihtari, east of which the team turned northward to Route 477 connecting to Route 23, whereas the scouting party continued on the 476 all the way via Liperi to Ylämylly.

Buteo, you are welcome! It is my pleasure, plus it makes the long drives fun! (My hubby does the driving, don’t worry).

There are more, from Joensuu. I don’t know if now would be a good time to post them, or later when the comic goes further into the city.

Then I have lots of photos with general relevance such as wooden boats, I don’t know if they should go here or somewhere else.

There will be another trip to Joensuu in a couple of weeks, when we travel to pick up our new puppy. Hopefully some scenes will be shown during that time so I can go get photos of them. In the destination my hubby plays along well and doesn't mind me going around taking photos But on the way I have to resort to drive by shooting (of photos). The result is I have literally hundreds of photos of this trip alone, most of which are even worse in terms of focus and just have to be discarded

Oh and the photo is of a theme park entrance in Mikkeli, it's been there for decades and is a source amusement for my family when we drive past. When the kids were smaller, we were always "stay tuned, the dinosaur is soon on the right side of the road!"

heh, good to know we have a Minnion out in the field, near where the crew would be (even if technically you're about 80 years early). That picture towards the end with all the birch trees whizzing by is especially lovely.

Also, I couldn't resist sharing this: the Mikkeli dinosaur has a cousin in the USA!!! whenever we drive to Boston there is this orange dinosaur that has been on the side of the highway for also decades, and we do the same thing you do and anticipate it's sighting

Well, when it was starting to look like the comic is going towards Joensuu, I was genuinely uncomfortable for a while. But taking these photos and “reporting” to you guys has made it only fun So, win-win situation!

Great scouting report, Jitter! All these photos are really pretty! And of course good to hear that there were (mostly) no sightings of any critters.

(So, about that monster. Do you think a crew should be sent out to investigate the situation or is it not that dangerous?)

We went hiking today so pretty Finland photos but none of actual comic locations. Tomorrow Joensuu!

Turns out my parents took a lake cruise from Savonlinna to Kerma (and beyond) this summer! So basically traveled much of the way the crew took by rowboat! This is the route map of the cruise: https://cdn.hurja.fi/files/mspuijo/media/mspuijo_reittikartta_1.jpg
Toivosaari is propably more to the west, somewhere between the texts “Linnasaaren kansallispuisto” (Linnasaari National Park) and “Haukivesi” (name of lake, part of Greater Saimaa) on the map. But the route between Oravi and Kerma is probably the same (compare map on p 148).

They had also taken some pictures! Unfortunately not very good quality to begin with, and I then took photos of the computer screen... but maybe they will give you some idea? Highlights include Kerma rapids seen from the water as on p149 and the canals Pilppa, Vihovuonne and Kerma where the crew must have carried the boat as shown at the bottom of p 148.
