My Friend in the Cage by Kim Kwang-Suk
I'm not sure I like the retro jazzy intro to this song as much as the rest of it, if retro and jazzy isn't your thing skip to about 30 seconds in.
Anyway, my co-worker was listening to this guy, Kim Kwang-Suk, the other day while giving me a ride to work. I could barely understand the words but something about this song, idk I just, got it? It felt raw and painful but almost euphoric to listen to, like even not understanding most of the lyrics something about how the song felt just was fundamentally relatable for me. It was kinda like what the song
Killing Me Softly is about, you know?
Anyway according to my co-worker this singer, Kim Kwang-Suk is also an important figure culturally in recently history for South Korea. He's a folk / rock singer who was pretty popular with young people in Korea in the 90's, which is why some people compare him to Kurt Cobain.
