The comments on today's chapter cover bought up the Cure, and got me thinking how a number of their songs are kind of applicable to SSSS...

A Forest is clearly about a scout being lured into the forests of Finland by a Hiisi
Spoiler: Lyrics • show
Come closer and see
See into the trees
Find the girl
If you can
Come closer and see
See into the dark
Just follow your eyes
Just follow your eyes

I hear her voice
Calling my name
The sound is deep
In the dark
I hear her voice
And start to run
Into the trees
Into the trees

Into the trees
Suddenly I stop
But I know it's too late
I'm lost in a forest
All alone
The girl was never there
It's always the same
I'm running towards nothing
Again and again and again and again

/>
Love Cats is a bit of fun about the Blessed Felines
/>
Lullaby is clearly about a troll or murder ghost!
Spoiler: Lyrics • show

On candy stripe legs the Spiderman comes
Softly through the shadow of the evening sun
Stealing past the windows of the blissfully dead
Looking for the victim shivering in bed
Searching out fear in the gathering gloom and
Suddenly
A movement in the corner of the room
And there is nothing I can do
When I realize with fright
That the Spiderman is having me for dinner tonight

Quietly he laughs and shaking his head
Creeps closer now
Closer to the foot of the bed
And softer than shadow and quicker than flies
His arms are all around me and his tongue in my eyes
Be still be calm be quiet now my precious boy
Don't struggle like that or I will only love you more
For it's much too late to get away or turn on the light
The Spiderman is having you for dinner tonight

And I feel like I'm being eaten
By a thousand million shivering furry holes
And I know that in the morning I will wake up
In the shivering cold

And the Spiderman is always hungry

I actually did write a story to A Forest about Lalli being lured into a forest and chasing after something. Not a Hiisi, though, and not something malicious.

I watched The Emperor's New Groove recently and the song from the credits is perfect for a certain pair. Heck, it's actually called "My funny friend and me".

Since I saw the new chapter cover, I've had this old Breeders song playing in my head. It's based on the Franklin expedition, which ended less well than I hope SSSS does, but IMO it's hard to beat for that "drudging through snow one step ahead of death" feel. (Sorry. But it's a Monday in November, I'll post some happy songs once the sun's back.)

Spoiler: Lyrics • show
With tables and chairs
And holy books for all
With knives and forks
And a thousand miles to go

But brother, I love you
900 to go
One down
900
One down
Twenty five to go

Bad dog is barking
Where snow meets the sea
900 to go
One down

900

When it's time
Brother
Bury me
In my clothes

Subjectively, part of me would want this song to be the first opening of an anime based on SSSS, objectively it may be too happy even for the earlier part, so I'm doing the next best thing and posting it here.

When a light-hearted post-apocalyptic anime came under the radar of the guy I watch to keep a foot in the anime world, of course I had to check it out.

I like a lot to read SSSS while listening to some film-music by Peer Raben (he made it for films in the 90'!) I think the themes match a lot, mostly when the atmosphere is more melancholic. I don't know how to post videos here so... I'm sorry!  :-\

I mostly hear his music at deezer, but here is one video:
I think it fits SSSS mostly when the character is lonely and sad/melancholic. Also thanks Grade E Cat for helping me!

Dark ambiance would be a good suit for this comic.

I'm going to resubmit Aviators Oceans to Skies, because it's truly uncanny how good it fits for Tuuri's death

Just leaving footprints in the sand
I built with my own hands
The shores of my despair

I'd rise above the waves and storm
And find help to reform
The pattern that I'm in

Letting go of hopes divine
Giving in to dreams of mine
Spreading wings and taking flight

Could even be interpreted as a duet between Tuuri and Lalli

Something I found on Youtube that reminded me a lot of Tuuri:

Lovely song.

EDIT: I finally found it! I've been looking for this song for almost a year!

So beautiful, though the lyrics are really dark.

I think we have a winner for anime ending songs that are appropriate for SSSS. Unsurprisingly, it's the one from an anime about a human weapon entering civilian life after her handler died little before the end of a war.
