it only reads as a pun if you pronounce "mucha" wrong. I know you english speaking people see the CH as you do, but in czech ch is actually considered a single letter and is pronounced pretty much the same as a spanish J.

Fixed that for you. I seriously want some of this bread now, but of course you can't get it in Iceland at all. Salmiakki, yes, that's everywhere. I can even find an acceptable sauna here (or failing that hop in a hot spring instead, which is not the same but very, very good regardless), so that's two of the "Finnish holy trinity" right there. But rye bread... nope, and I miss it so much.

Can't you bake it? Or maybe try some Danish rye bread, surely they have that.

it's weird in the same sense horses are weird moose. It's flat and circular, but I have to agree with lauf it's really good. dark finnish bread is good, which is why we hoard them and fill the freezer with them whenever we've been in finland

So it's like the trdelniks of dark bread.

I could, but Iceland is also lacking proper rye flour: the kind we have here has a large part of wheat flour mixed in with some malt, and the flavour of the bread will be sweet-ish instead of sour. Iceland does actually have their own variant of rye bread, possibly similar to the Danish kind since so many traditional recipes have Danish roots, but it's almost cloyingly sweet and the consistency is very different.

Also the best option for baking Finnish rye bread is a kind of a masonry oven which I don't have... plus making rye bread is a huge amount of work (which is why they tended to be baked in large quantities and hung up to dry near the ceiling).

I've heard it pronounced with a German -ch like in Buch and Nacht.

Come now, sweet malty bread is delicious.

phew, so this was an eventful weekend. waving flags, socializing, eating a looot of cake, even going to church... and oh, yeah, I stole a couple mushrooms from my neighbour's lawn yesterday:

*puts on mycologist hat*
Bolus mushrooms! *envy* Those are supposed to be really delicious but they don't grow around here.
We once found edible mushrooms in a treed patch of a playground and it was beautiful. Except they didn't actually taste that good but it was still very exciting. :P

that's way closer than the english ch sound, anyway! incidentally, I use to pronounce Munch as, well, "munch" for a long time until someone corrected me.

I've heard it pronounced with a German -ch like in Buch and Nacht.
yeah that's pretty much the right sound

also i learned recently that van gogh also has that sound at the end there. who knew

Oh, fun. Hopefully it won't be much hassle getting back in? It was always such a pain when that happened to me (thankfully only a couple times...)

*Distant noooo can be heard*

More minor of a downer moment, but last night I found out we had chocolate milk in the house, a half-full container, and I was super stoked to have some for breakfast... woke up, the entire thing was gone. How?!

...What's that? "Adrai, you're too old to be drinking chocolate milk"?

*outrage* Everyone is young enough to drink chocolate milk. I drink it and I'm in university. I know other people much older than me who drink it. *more outrage*

It was a favorite afternoon recovery drink when I had time to run at lunch.
