A quick "hello back" from me :) Now I need to dig through so many new posts...

Argh, Piney, that sounds really awful. I didn't sleep a lot the last nights either - I was on a short trip to Madrid (probably my last vacation for a looong time to come  :-\ ) and in our street there was a night club. I'm used to sleeping in a very quiet environment, so I needed more than an hour to tune out the noise... and just when I had fallen asleep I was woken up by the noise of the garbage collection in the street. Why would anyone schedule this noisy garbage collection for 1.30 AM in the middle of the night?? (Where I live, the trucks drive around between 8 and 10 am.)

Well, in the hotel's defence: someone would probably demand free breakfast if they weren't waked up because their lives were endangered by faulty fire evacuation routines.

Haha well hey, they actually did let us have free breakfast vouchers. ("for the noise" apparently...)

oh man that sucks

the fire alarm went off in the middle of the mockingjay midnight premiere I went to, but at least we were all awake. Even if it was freezing outside

Yep, and of course since it was, like, 70 F outside during the day I didn't have much to bundle up in. I'm just lucky that I thought to grab my ipod when I left and I could still get wifi outside :P

Oh gosh, yeah I need to sleep in complete silence. And so of course they decided to "test" the fire alarm twice around 6:30-6:40 AM. That was almost worse.

Oh well, free food!

I don't really care much for Hotel breakfasts, here they're usually just sandwich/cereal buffets with some egg and bacon on the side anyways

What are you talking about, sandwhiches are the definition of breakfast.

I've only ever had sandwiches for breakfast at restaurants.

Surely you jest. Sandwiches clearly belong to lunch.

Morning is for toasts, muffins, pastries, eggs, bacon and ham, potatoes, pancakes, smoothies and so on.

That would be a suitable choice of breakfast if your name was Louis XIV of Bourbon and you lived in Versailles? Muffins!? Pancakes!!??

DEAR SIR.  :o

Breakfast is sandwiches with cheese and cucumber (preferably the bread should be knäckebröd) and several cups of coffee. *nod nod*

The breakfast buffet at my hotel was fruit, toast, bagels, oatmeal, yogurt, eggs, bacon, muffins/pastries, more fruit, and cereal. No sandwiches.

What kind of cheese do you use?

I mean, this interesting. We have a lot of these knäckebröd at the store but I have never seen anyone buy them. Let alone use them for breakfast. I assumed they were used as canapés or hors-d'ouvre for receptions.

Emmental is my favourite, then come edam and gouda in that order. I've always eaten knäckebröd just as a type of bread - nothing fancy about it certainly, and it's really a breakfast staple.  :D
