Whooo, just finished my fifth book this year! I'm beginning to understand why my mum calls me unsocial

I was going to point out that it didn't seem like a reason for being seen as unsocial unless we're talking about reading all 5 volumes of A Song of Ice and Fire, but then I remembered that we're in 2015.

All, and I mean every single one, of Agatha Christie's mystery books within three months (she's written 66, for reference). Reason it took that long was due to waiting times on holds + limit on lending amount, too. Miss Marple remains my favourites, but I do like her Harlequin series quite a bit...

I can read the Harry Potter series within 6 days, too. Less if I'm really focused. Lord of the Rings within 3, again less if focused.

I can't say if I can do better on A Song of Ice and Fire because I haven't yet read that series, haha. I'll tell you my time if I do

In the past week I've read three novels already - would have been more if it weren't for being at a string camp + being distracted by a really really good (as in so good I've never read anything like it before) sports manga (235 chapters finished in 2 days).

Unfortunately my time drops when it comes to non-fiction, haha. Except for when I'm interested - history books I can finish up quite quickly. Art books also. Anything I'm uninterested in, though... it could take me weeks, haha. Especially if it's written by a specialist in the field of the topic discussed but not of writing... bad writing puts me off so fast.

/end of enthusiasm - this has a danger of me turning to complaints about writers, so I'll stop there XD

I don't really read books, it has proably been several years when i last read a book...
Well, i do spend a lot of time seeking information and reading research articles from internet or plans about massive infrastructure and other construction projects.

Nah, can't beat you, I read them only in a month  That is, minus half year break in the middle of the first book, when it got just too boring to go on + disappointing tranlsation. Got well in the second book, though, and then the non-stop reading started

If I have nothing else to do I can get through LotR in a day or two. Actually, that's most books, though my homework suffers horribly if I do. When I was younger I always wondered why everyone complained about reading taking so long. I tend to take longer normally, though.

Sadly I've only read one novel so far, partially because I've gone through most of our stash of books and because I haven't been to the library in forever. I do have a list of "to-read" books, though. It's just a matter of getting a hold of them...

I would be able to do that if I weren't. So. Busy.

In general, my reaction if someone doesn't finish a short to medium-length series in a week is "what are they doing." Sometimes, of course, I have to consider that there may be other factors at work. (Which means almost all the time, basically.)

I take a couple days to read the first Harry Potter book.  I just read slowly, at an irl conversation speed, to make it seem more real.  On the other hand, that also means I get to spend more time enjoying a book than all you speed readers.
That said, I haven't read a book in about 2 years, because I can't be bothered to put in the time and effort it takes to start a book (let alone finish one).  In fact, I'm pretty sure the last book I read was the third Hunger Games book, which I didn't finish, on account of it boring me to tears.  In the end, I prefer games over reading.  In fact, I'll just go ahead and put reading towards the bottom of the list of things I like to do.

There are people who can't read fast. They read every word thoroughly just for the sake of reading, and if their track of mind is wandering off while reading a descriptive papargraph, they re-read it. If some phrase wasn't too clear from the first reading, they re-read it. Even if some part just caught their attention, they re-read it again and again. And when they're overly impressed by the book, they close it and give themselves some rest to think over what they've just read. Finally, some can just delay reading if they like book too much to stay with the story for as long as they can Everything applies to me, for example, that's why I'm so slow. But ASOIF was an exception, I'm surprised I finished it that fast and want to read the next one.

On the other hand, I can read fast, but only the stuff I can't really care less about. Once I needed to wait for my friend, and she gave me Hunger Games to kill time. Read half of it in 40 minutes, never wanted to read the rest or re-read it again.

I think I was pleased that I at least finished one of the ASOIAF books within the loan time (14 days), mostly due to my erratic daily schedule. I'm not a particularly fast or slow reader though.

Yep, different reading habits. I tend to dislike "breaking" the flow of the story, so I do all my re-reading the second time through: if I enjoy a book, I'll read through it quickly, and then again a short time later. For me, though, "quickly" and "thoroughly" are not mutually exclusive, since...idk, my reading pace is just what I'm used to?

With books I dislike, I either truly speed-read or take forever to finish.

However, I think you should be very careful implying that there's something wrong with people who can't read fast. If someone doesn't finish a book series within a week, the only thing they are doing is being completely normal. It's great that you guys read so much, but please remember that most people do not have your reading abilities, or your ability to focus completely on the book they're reading, or the time and energy to read as much as you do. Bragging a bit about having read a lot is perfectly fine, but try to do so without making it seem like everyone should be able to do it c:

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with it. People do things differently, and not everyone has the same amount of time or interests. It's interesting to see how everyone does something (or maybe I'm just the only one who thinks it's interesting).

I really hope I didn't sound like I was implying that, and I apologize if I did...sometimes I forget that people can't read my mind >>;;

I read at a reasonable pace, but I tend to lose focus so I often have to reread entire chapters because I spaced out in the middle of it (but somehow kept "reading").
