Good news and I hope it gives y'all a smile today.  This weekend this area got slammed by what is, for us, heavy rain (~5 cm) and the runoff from the hills and mountains surrounding the Rio Grande valley caused quite a bit of flood damage, making several families at least temporarily homeless.

So yesterday the university (nmt.edu) opened the student housing a month early for the neighbours who were flooded out.  There are university towns where the university and the public don't get along all that well -- it seems this isn't one of them.

Good on NM Tech! The university I went to had a pretty bad relationship with the surrounding neighborhood, so it's really refreshing to see other universities that do otherwise. I hope those families are able to safely return to their homes soon!

You'd'a thunk we'd have gotten some publicity about that here in NZ, where Maori is one of the official languages.  (Or maybe I just focus too much on social & fandom media.)

From my own experience, relating to Finns may be a sign of being an introvert and/or not being completely off the autistic spectrum.
My mother keeps joking I should move to Finland some day.

There are days where I suspect Finland actually has a disproportionate number of Aspies compared to the rest of the world and nobody noticed.
