Thanks for sharing, Viola! I read both "Understanding Comics" and "Reinventing Comics" but I've never heard Scott McCloud speak before. (And unrelated, I keep listening to 99% invisible every now and then and it seems like everyone on the show always has a very pleasant voice. Is it a prerequisite to only have people with nice voices on the podcast? What sorcery is this?)
It's very sad that so much people still see comics not as an art form and a different way of storytelling, but just as a kinda funny but worthless thing... there are so may proofs that the opposite is true!! :'(
I think that's significantly less true with each year that passes. These days it's so easy to stumble into a beautiful webcomic or some intriguing manga scan just by clicking a link online, even if you're not the type to, I dunno, seek out and buy art comics. If a person is at all interested in either fictional stories or art, they will run into a comic they like sooner or later.
