Don't worry. Only one person actually died (policeman), and there was only about a handful of wounded (policemen and a German tourist, and nobody's life is in danger). It did still happen in a quite touristy place and they weren't sure there wasn't a second shooter when it happened, so evacuations and confinments had to happen. A collegue of my mother's was among the confined people. We are also holding presidential elections in a couple of days, so some people are worried about polling places getting attacked.

Back here after a truly fascinating weekend. I've been up further into the Barossa Valley, camped on an old property up there with a bunch of the local Druids, teaching them about the plants that grow on their land, and what they can replace in the European traditions. Fascinating work and nice folk, good food and music and tales in the evenings. Nice though to be back somewhere that has telephone reception and internet - I'm definitely getting soft in my old age!

They do! But it's hard to tell under all that fluff. They are a raptor, so their usual way to catch things is a strike with their extended legs.

We've had a quiet day - Anzac Day Dawn Service, then went to visit a friend down in Unley for lunch and conversation. She had some plants for me, including some old-fashioned geranium cuttings ('Mabel Grey' and the like), an old style Spiraea from what used to be her great-grandma's garden, and a seedling of the Australian native celery ( Apium prostratum).

Then I came home and unloaded and stacked a load of wood, and will shortly fall into bed.
