I like the little Halloween theme we got at the top.

Eesh, what a mediocre Halloween. We were only visited by about ten kids!

...On the upside, more candy for us. ;p

Well, you got ten more kids than we did. And only a block away is a quiet residential street where all the trick-or-treaters in town seemed to have congregated.

The more-candy-for-us principle still holds....  ;)

Yes, really fine seasonal logo!

I get the image of just removing the flower from the vase and use that water.

Same here. Normally there's this weird rhythm where if no one shows up one year, tons will come the next. No one came last year, so we stocked up on candy, and guess what? The paradigm did not hold.

Excuse me while I stuff myself full of popcorn and Reece's peanut butter cups.

We had to go out and buy more candy.  I count that as a successful Halloween!

It was dead here.

So I bought a box of candy and rewatched over the garden wall.

They still had a fair amount when I ran out to buy more.  I'm especially grateful that the ones I most like were the ones that they had the most of!

Umm... I wonder if we'll have an SSSS Advent Calendar and/or forum Secret Santa this year...

Are we in need of bold volunteers to organize these?

I think Gwenno said something about starting [the secret santa] up when its closer to Christmas. So I suspect we'll have that started around mid-end of the month?

Aargh I've been trying to get my move arranged amid bureaucratic red tape and uncooperative technology, I'm terrified I'm going to be stuck in this country post-election, and to top it all off my wrist started hurting again every time I move it. I hate everything.

Heartfelt sympathy! Moves are awful at any time, but even worse with this election hanging over you. All you can really do is vote before you leave and hope the civil unrest dies down before you finish your work overseas. Because I fear that whoever gets in, civil unrest there will be.

I'm relieved to be on the other side of the planet at the moment. The USA has always struck me as being an insanely dangerous place to live at the best of times, which these definitely aren't.

I do hope your bureaucrap gets sorted out, and the technology too. And are you using a wrist brace? That may help. Good luck with the whole mess, and hugs if you want them.

Honestly it's not that dangerous, when you remove Chicago, Los Angeles, NYC and the quagmire of weirdness that occurs in the region known as Florida from the accounting.... you get nationwide death and injury statistics that are on par with, or lower than your average European nation.

I've lived there, a few times, as did my older brother. The cities always felt awful, barring Seattle, bits of San Francisco and bits of Boston, and the bush usually felt okay. But to me, America always had this sensation of something boiling underneath, ready to burst out and tear things apart. Not just the human part of the cities either - I always had this sense that the land underneath was about to pick itself up, have a good shake and knock off all the stuff that was crawling on it.

Los Angeles and bits of Chicago just made my skin creep, as did New York. I think I'd settle for our wild extreme weather and  venomous wildlife any day. Europe seems more welcoming to people, Australia is too old and tired to really care, for the most part, though parts of the land here are really hostile and will kill you if they can, and other parts are oddly welcoming - often areas quite close together, strangely. But I doubt I could live in America again, except maybe the Pacific North-West, or around Big Sur, or just about anywhere in the desert.
