- Lalli was drawn first. It was going to be him preparing to go on stage, getting into his own head and darkness. I couldn't do anything to fix poor Lalli's right arm, but I didn't ditch the whole thing & I moved on.
- Tuuri was next, she came out all right in the first go. I had no idea what role she (or any of them) would play in grey's band lineup. At that point it became an airport lounge rather than backstage, so decided to leave out any hint of instruments. So, she was hydrating and standing protectively over her bag, wearing the merch.
- Mikkel was next. I will never not draw Mikkel with a ponytail any chance I get. I wanted him big, way bigger than Lalli, 2-3 seats' worth, but perhaps not quite that big. The little rips and runs in his old comfy T-shirt came later.
- in the concept in my head, Emil was supposed to be wearing a shirt of the concert merch, but cut off so it was just the flaming bit, with the added bonus of showing off his midriff. I forget how it came to be that I cut off the most important part of the get-up with a wonkily-drawn arm clutching a backpack. Also, what are shoes. Oh crap, now he had to have a right arm, too? Uh, rummaging in the wonky backpack, I guess?
- Sigrun looks like a pencil sketch because I had a hard time placing her pose - silly me started with the hand holding her head up. Since she was supposed to be simultaneously jittery and flopping with frustration with having to wait, it unintentionally came out actually pretty okay. Not so much the other seats in her row, but ah well.
- Went back to Emil. The arm was so wonky that I modified it to hide that, so yeah, flames, but the rest was a write-off, just scribbles & failure, no concept of a meaning. Spent way too much time colouring in the jeans, but you couldn't tell they were ripped if I hadn't.
- Reynir was fun, I had the idea that he would use the time to do stretching exercises (remembering my ex doing ballet barre in these situations), and also that he would be the type to wear a skirt for comfortable travelling. I will never not draw Reynir in wool socks, to me they are as much a part of him as his hair. I noped out of attempting to draw a tie-dye pattern with a pen, on a crumpled shirt, so vague swooshes only. Alas the position I put him in had him partially hidden behind Sigrun just enough to not make clear that all of his braid was stacked on top of his head, but oh well. Bracelets, pendants, tribal-ish patterning on the skirt, and freckles, he was done.
- What Would Onni Do? He would not be socialising. The space next to Tuuri was visually already taken up by Mikkel. He would not sit next to Sigrun, nor had I left enough room for him to do so anyway. I hit upon the other pastime of travellers, looking out the window at the scenery (such as it was). What even are straight and perpendicular lines? A mystery I will never fathom, although I am learning how to make them digitally. (Huge kudos to grey for his stage set, btw.)
- Decided not to include Kitty. Just, could, not, visualise her in this situation, and despaired having a cat carrier half-hidden and undecipherable. The only spot left was next to Lalli, sort of, or in the middle of the floor in the foreground, sort of. Sorry, babby, no chasing goannas for you.
