Experimentation time: I've been trying to imitate the techniques of Feng Zhu from this video.
Spoiler: show

It's mostly based off a photo taken years ago by my parents, although I've changed some things in the background. I didn't really bother to add the details to the clouds (or everything else), though - my focus was on the early stages of the painting.

Small digital inking/ brush experiments.

Now to move on to something other than disembodied heads.

Mith, I love your disembodied heads - the lighting and limited color is lovely :)

I'm here to drop this off:

It's a colored & slightly redrawn version of this Inktober drawing, and I like it a lot better.

So much cool art from you guys again!

here's a little something:

not sure which one to use

I'm not even sure if I'll use this as the cover XD I have an alternative one in the making, although whichever one I end up putting as the cover I'll still use both in the book

then there's also the age old dilemma of where the heck am I gonna put the book title

I like the one on the left a little better, but the one on the right has room for a title if it is made of small words, down the left side.

Ooh! I like the one on the right better; I think the title could go on the bottom third since there isn't enough detail down there to be distracting. (If the color of the words isn't red, that is. Then that would still be hard to read.)

I think you have plenty of room for the title in the bottom half. There is nearly no detail and very little value variation so it's fine. I find both version equally good, albeit the right one more refreshing. It's very dark though and at printing it'll be even darker. A lot of the detail might be lost. Have you test-printed it already?

Hey tonight I learned how to do a render pass!
In other words, I learned to properly prepare and compose my stuff in order to best expose the sculpture work into a 2D piece. Not the simplest thing to do with Zbrush as I can only apply one material at a time. So I have to save a few different materials with different reflectivity and light.

It's been an art-productive weekend. Today I tried cel shading on a whim - can't say how successful I was, but yeah:

For the record, I've never cel-shaded before. :P

(The whole point of the drawing was to practice shading with it, so there's really no context to it if anyone was curious.)
