Does the first one mean that the Rash would not have spread and the apocalypse not happened?

That depends, are you expecting the first victims to respect social distancing, even before they knew they were infected and that infection would most likely result in death? Are you expecting the first trollifying victims to quietly accept death or eternal restraint, or would they be more likely to try to escape that fate, even at the cost of spreading the disease further? Judging from how well social distancing is currently obeyed ...
But perhaps it would've bought enough time for some not-yet-massively-infected countries to prevent the complete collapse of society.

My logic was mostly along the lines of fewer people getting infected during the prologue era. And for what it's worth, the Rash and our real-life (very, very) little critter seem to have "asymptomatic but contagious" phases of similar length. I honestly have no idea how much less efficient the existence of trollification would have made distancing measures.

Our dog did that once! We didn’t see what it was in the tree, but during one of our forest walks she very persistently tried to climb one fir tree. Of course she thinks herself to be quite the hunter, but usually she just sprints or jumps toward the “prey” (she never catches anything, which is partially but only partially due to her being on a leash) and/or barks. The tree episode was clearly different. We wondered what it was and now I’m wondering again.

Phocena, this is exactly where this should go! And it’s utterly brilliant! It’s funny but also touching, well in character (after Onni ceases to be mad at Reynir) and plays brilliantly on the original song! Full makrs!

Heh! I definitely enjoyed that one, phocena.

I feel like it'd either play out like that, or alternatively Onni would be like "I'll take care of you run away because I'm scared of forming emotional bonds with people because of my trauma and that the more I get attached the more it'll hurt when I inevitably lose you"

But that wouldn't fit with the song.

Interesting you went for that song, I've always imagined "The Lonely Goatherd" would be the easiest song from The Sound of Music to turn into something about a pairing involving Reynir. You've got me refuted  .
