Dmeck, thanks for the links! You really found some fascinating places and things there!

thorny, yes it did. And I could also tell from the first sentence who this was about. A lovely little story. :))

I was busy again, so another triple:

10: Year 10

I did a little visit back to the Saimaa floating Town and what it might look like ten years in the making.

11: Number 10 Downing Street

I see I´m not the only one whose mind went straight to the feline inhabitant of Downing Street. :))

12: ten years together

Spoiler: spoilers for the Adventure Time finale... though it´s been years. Vague spoilers for Fionna and Cake. • show

I really took a long time figuring out what to draw for this one... I´m not enough of a romantic at heart to be able to imagine a fictional couple ten years down the line without additional information, especially as most of them tend to only get together in their respective work. So I decided to partly ditch the romantic aspect.
The Fionna and Cake-show takes place 12 years in the future of Adventure Time´s finale, so it qualifies.
Ten years has Simon Petrikov been sane and together with his loved ones, but also ten years apart from the one he loves most, which makes fleeing back to the madness of the crown and the forgetting that comes with it suddenly very compelling.

supposedly studying, most likely drawing…

10 Favourite Fanworks - listed, but not ranked, as they hit different parts of what I love.

1. Kasvatus - imo the best imagining of the post-canon story arc, a sprawling multi-story tale.  In turn fluffy, sexy, wry, and truly frightening, but always with characterisations that ring true. Any work by onnenlintu is well worth it, but this magnum opus is possibly his best work.

2. Defense Mechanism - Laufey's inspired concept set in Iceland features a well-imagined cast of characters drawn within Iceland's underclass formed by disturbing racial and ethnic bias.

3. I can't read Russian, but I highly appreciate the artworks contributed by the Russian fandom.  Like this one: I adore Стикеры для телеграмм: Отдам в хорошие руки, Helga Mareritt's sweet and funny drawings of notoros.

4. Always droll, of Purple Wyrm's comedic stories, A Good Walk Spoiled is highly recommended.

5. It wouldn't be Christmas without Windfighter's hilarious - an old parody song perfectly illustrated with screencaps from SSSS.  ("You're so smart, YOU hang up the lights!")

6. Some years back, Helia crocheted the whole crew, and made various dioramas of their antics. Here's one she made as part of an Advent Calendar.

7. One of the saddest, most affecting stories I have ever read: Keeping a Secret by Lazy8.  Warning: character death

8. This one is one of the best examples of a collective work by the Forum as a whole: the Things Mikkel Madsen is Not Allowed to Do thread.

9. All the incredible art we've had over the years - I spent waaaaay too much time scrolling through the SSSS Art Museum trying to find best works of the artists that I've always enjoyed: Haiz/bogkeep, Piney, Johannabelle, starfallz, Unlos, Mirasol, Sc0ut, Mad Robin, Helia, and lost energy among many broken links.  I have several saved from the Advent Calendars I've moderated over the years, fortunately, that serve as an archive.  I urge you all to go into the Events Archive and take a look at those.
Sometimes we'd get a single work from an artist, and many of those are astonishing.
But here, I will give you a work from Kiraly that I admired so much that I requested the original in an art trade, the Sweater Troll:

10. I have contributed some fanworks over the years, so I guess I should include something of mine?  I am proud of many, not so much others, and am continually puzzled why some of the works I spent a lot of time and energy putting together have met with little reaction while something I doodled in seconds gets shared around?  So without further ado I put forward one that combines both: Jobs Mikkel Madsen Has Been Fired From

Spoiler: what have i done • show
Why o why did i set myself 10 fanworks?  It is now very late in the evening and I've spent hours archive-diving.  There are so many works that I am now ignoring, like Róisín & Keep Looking & Nellie McEnt's poetry, the in-depth consideration of Mikkel and his backstory through lwise's writings, thegreyarea's crew portraits, the time I spent looking through L00Ney's & Jitter's oeuvre trying to choose among the amazing output ... all this with terrible election result coverage playing over the radio.  Should I have gone back and filled one of the previous prompts instead? Irrelevant question, as I cannot take back the evening, but I still think it's an evening well spent.

I have not been very active on this thread due to being busy with uni, but everyone's fanworks here are wonderful! Wave, your list has made me aware that I have not, in fact, read Laufey's "Defense Mechanism" fic, so that's what I'll be reading tonight!

SSSS/Known World Decathlon - held as part of the Midsummer/St John's Day games

(I was hoping to make an illustrated piece, but maybe I'll add cartoons later.)

1. Hurdles - still a prime event.  Not too many bases or towns can spare enough flat area to make an old-style running track anymore, so this is now a cross-country running event similar to a steeplechase.  The hurdles generally are bundles of a specific regulation size and diameter, of whatever material is available, spaced more-or-less regularly along a regulation length course.

2.  Lasso distance event - the competitor who can lasso the target from the furthest away wins.  Since there is not an open space available in most games locations, distance also brings the complication of possible obstruction.

3.  Lasso moving target - points for number of targets and speed (they reuse the troll dummies they use to train the cats, which have the added complication of extra appendages)

4. High Jump - still the classic event as in ancient times

5. Cross-bow - points given for a combination of accuracy and distance.  This event usually has no spectators allowed, as the course must generally be outside the guarded perimeter.  Often the target is usually placed on sundry trees on islands across a lake, which gives the advantage of a clear path but the disadvantage of uneven heights from one target to the next.  Dispensation is given if the competitor uses one shot to fell an actual troll or beast happening by instead of the specified target, so long as the distance is roughly similar.

6. Shot put - still more-or-less the same sport, but in the post-Rash games accuracy comes into it.  The competitor who collapses the head of the troll dummy from the furthest distance wins.

7. Log splitting - the competitor can use whatever axe or sledge and wedge suits them, but they have a specified amount of time to split as many pieces as will fit through a standardised diameter hole.  The logs are pre-cut into regulation lengths but are natural logs with knots and variations.

8. Jigsaw puzzle - fastest solve wins, after 5 minutes to study the picture of what it should look like.

9. Kiik - the pre-Rash Estonian sport has swept the Known World.  There are events in the games for pairs and teams, but for the decathlon it's a solo event.

10. Obstacle course / treasure hunt - collect the specified items, in order and as fast as possible, on a given course through a nearby village (or mall) that's been cleared of grosslings and is scheduled to be razed by cleansers. This way, the competitors can't train on the actual course and must navigate any hazards as they go.

So, decathlon.

I agree with you wave that there would be some track and field sports left, while others are not possible and/or relevant any more. So

1 running short course - goal is to have 100 m where possible, but the circumstances dictate the actual length
2 hurdles - like Wave described
3 javelin throwing - to dummy targets, not simply distance
4 - high jump
5 - long jump
6 - running long distance - 10 km cross country
7 - wall climbing
8 - obstacle course (cross between army training and American Ninja type ridiculously difficult obstacles on a varianle built course)
9 - sharp throwing - either knives or axes, contestant chooses (distance is different per weapon)
10 - creative throwing - contestants run a 1 km course with a lot of random items strewn around on and along the track as well as on walls / branches etc depending on location. Targets appear by surprise. The contestant must pick and choose the item to throw, and points are awarded by accuracy and damage. One throw per target with a time limit, points deducted for ”getting killed” i.e. failure to throw anything or getting too close to the target. Further points added or deducted for time spent completing the course.  Plus an overall time limit, after which the contestant is considered to forfeit the event (in formal games this is 15 minutes).

Still not back in the swing of posting doubles, not sure if that will change, but at least I´m still drawing... ^^'

13: One little, two little, 10 little Notoros

A truly unfortunate situation to get stuck in, so it only fits this was the prompt for Friday the 13th... :.D

14: 10 favorite fanworks

On the one hand, why only ten??? On the other hand, now I´m archive diving in the middle of the night!?!
Anyways, here´s my list, also in no specific order because I cannot rank them. :)

1: Oripoke´s when there's fire in my woods it burns me and nobody else. Every work of fiction that doesn´t have them already deserves an AU with dragons in it, in my opinion. And I really love this one.
2: Grey´s Rum-story set in Forum-Squirrel-world, originally from the bearbeast-chapter-break-filler. Of course I´m biased, but it´s just such a sweet fairytale about our little community here. ;_;
3: This Advent Calendar-contribution by PurpleWyrm from 2019 blew me away when I first saw it and still does tbh.
4: I agree that it´s hard to pick a single sonnett by the amazing NellieMcEnt - so let´s not forget she made a PDF-collection of all of them! (to be found also in the comments of A2, page 285)
5: I have a whole folder of screenshotted SSSS-fan-poetry that I like but that is way too much for here. So I´ll just say be on the lookout in the commentariat for such names as ScottishNottish, Keep Looking, Occisor Corax, Awlwren, Lallicat, Quetano, Corncobman and so many more I can´t think of right now... Just read the poetry in the comments!
6: As someone who admittedly watches way too much Youtube, this animatic about our crew´s language barriers by TopazPearl is one of my favorites as well.
7: Our custom emojies!  :lalli: :tuuri: :emil: :sigrun: :mikkel: :reynir: :siv: :torbjorn: :onni: :trond: :hat: :betterhat: :headbang: :squirrelcookie: :squirrelcookie: :squirrelcookie: I don´t know who made them as this was before my time, but I love them a lot!
8: I´m generally a fan of all the things that were somewhat created in a group effort. Be that chapter break fillers, advent calendars, YoinkTobers, that time we all wrote human!Kitty-AU´s ( starting here ) or drew Emil and Lalli in different goth fashion styles... ( starting here )
9: this thread is always a good laugh. I´m already ways past ten things, ain´t I?
10: You´re seeing enough of my stuff recently, so I´ll spare you that. I´m just happy to keep making things.

And to end it up, because I´m still drawing something for every day but the prompt is fulfilled, a librarian witch making lists of her favorite books (hairstyle is strongly inspired by Kaisa from Hilda, another witch working in a library). Mostly because the reason I´ve been so busy over the last week is because I started college! To become a librarian. :))

15: Decathlon

It came to me the evening before this prompt that Decathlon is a sport. But by then I´d already planned out my post-apocalyptic outdoor-store-setting, so here you go, an a little different interpretation. :)
I wish I could start over with coloring this one... I had a good color-concept I think, but stumbled in the execution... I also wish I had the time to write a full story about this group of survivors in the early days of the Rash.

Mirasol, I love your art!

Everyone's favourites lists are making me look back at past fanworks myself! I recently re-read SSSS and also some of my old favourite SSSS fanfics. This isn't going to be a list of my precise 10 favourites, because I am honestly not sure how I would narrow it down, but here's my attempt.

In no particular order except the order which they have come to my mind, here I present:

10 SSSS Fanworks I think are Pretty Neat

1. The first Chapter Break Filler - this one was really significant to me because it was the first event I ran on the forum! It came at a really hard time in my life when I was struggling with some mental health stuff and of course Covid was making everything anxiety-inducing. Everyone's fanworks were wonderful and it's a really good memory for me.

2. This video by Scottishnottish which is a reading of one of their poems, with ambient sound as well. It's very mesmerising and I keep it bookmarked on my computer's browser.

3. These two ambient SSSS-inspired soundscapes by Sc0ut.

4. Come to Me by jstevens and its sequel - these fics are potentially the most relationally and emotionally intense SSSS fics I have ever read. They're very difficult to put down once you've started. I have a distinct memory of the absolute emotional rollercoaster ride I was taken on during my first readthrough on the train to school.

5. I cannot for the life of me find them anywhere (must've forgotten to bookmark), but KaTaai used to do wonderful readings of different people's poems from the SSSS comments section!

6. Everyone's poetry in the SSSS comments! Nellie McEnt, ScottishNottish, corncobman's intimidating consistency and many more. People were so nice and engaging and the poetry was wonderful.

7. Wavewright's Stranded - a SSSS Superhero AU fanfic. I haven't read it in a while but I remember enjoying it a lot and am just about to start a re-read!

8. This fanposter by the participants of last year's Secret Santa really really touched me. Thank you to everyone for making it for me  <3

9. KMOX: The Voice of What's Left of St. Louis, And the Rest of America by falcomreynolds. A fascinating, very engaging au fanfic set in a post-rash USA. Charlie McAvoy lives on a moving town that travels across the American great plains. They are tracing a radio signal being sent out from St. Louis in the hopes of using the radio tower there to broadcast a message to the rest of the world. There's magic, deities, mystery, action, and also cool vultures.

10. The Doom Laser by Feneris. It's a crack fic. The SSSS crew are building a giant doom laser to hold the world hostage. Reynir has an unfortunate pizza delivery experience. There are heists. There are explosions. There is definitely a doom laser. It's hilarious. Please read it.

I'm also flattered that everyone thinks so highly of my poetry! I've barely written any poetry this year - I miss how new SSSS pages provided such great regular inspiration! Potentially my creative potential was also boosted by the number of poems I wrote while being mildly bored in class when I was still in school. I'd like to write more, though - it's just difficult finding the right inspiration.
I write poetry sometimes.

Yeah, there are things in here I haven't read yet, either, and probably should.  I never got a start on Come to Me, but probably should. (What can I say, I like my shipping low-key.)
I forgot about Sc0ut's soundscapes - those are indeed wonderful.
I also forgot about Laufey's actual knitting of Reynir's mage-world peysa! (She said it was massively heavy.)  Gwenno also did a great Reynir cosplay (check out Gwenno's profile pic here!), and there was a Russian team who cosplayed the whole crew (no time to dig that up right now).
I can also recommend KMOX.

I did not know about Larry the Cat of Number 10 Downing Street, and now my life is enriched.  Thanks again to thorny and Mirasol.  (Seriously, I did not know when I created the prompt!)

Keep, maybe you can reach out to KaTaai on the Discord server to find out where those recordings are?  I don't have time right now to dig for those, but they may be pinned there, or in the language threads here.

The characterisation and level of emotional drama in CTM isn't everyone's favourite - it's definitely not a universal(ish) favourite the way Kasvatus is. However, it is VERY compelling and I think the story does a great job of exploring the aftermath of going through significant trauma (bad coping mechanisms included). CTM also expands on the SSSS world and interesting inter-country bureaucracy. It was written well before the end of adventure 1, so all I can really say is that the silent world adventure ends quite differently in CTM with a different set of characters surviving.

My to-read-list is getting increasingly longer... And with all the decathlon-activities we can almost fill post-rash-olympics by now. :))

Anyways, actually only two shitposts pictures today because I can´t post tomorrow. :)

16: 10 Useful and 100% safe Spells and/or Runes

May I present, Mikkel´s latest side-hustle* in Norway.

*not backed up by any expertise, but approved of the generals Eide. Reynir is getting a share of the sales for the few runes that actually do something and weren´t improvised by Mikkel.

17: The power of 10 wings

(Not sure if I understood this prompt right, after looking up the words I settled on interpreting it as "power of ten *insert your preferred measure here*". Sorry if I got it wrong... ^^')

Ten wings. Not quite enough to stack cars into lookout-towers, but way enough to steal your lunch with frightening coordination.

Once again done with acrylic markers and a fineliner, with a smidgeon of alcohol markers.
supposedly studying, most likely drawing…

fluent: :de: :us: sort of: :fr: learning!: :fi: I wish…: :it:
