Identical twins can be considered a natural set of clones. Just in case anyone needs help with inspiration.

So, er, I was actually planning to work on the last chapter of a story about Emil's (evil) (identical) twin starting tomorrow. I guess that would count?
Also, I just posted a ficlet in which Torbjorn and Torolf are twins. Clearly I have clones on my mind. So maybe I'll try to think of something more original....

I think some people headcanon that Mikkel and his brother Micheal are identical twins, and Ensi Hotakainen's sons appear to be identical twins.  (Also lots of interesting headcanons about their father, Ukko-Pekka, as he has no last name, Ukko is the Finnish sky god, and there's no mention of him in comic)

Dreki, I have repeatedly been playing with the idea that the Mikkel who gets fired from jobs and leaves ex bosses infuriated to see him again, and our Mikkel who is nothing but trustworthy and steadfast, are in fact the two brothers. One version of how this happened is probably somewhere in this thread. There’s also one, I think from Wave, involving the Madsen twins and the Dagrenning program.

I got curious and looked it up and yikes - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Carl_Vinson

6,000 crew aircraft carrier.  Hopefully they'll be able to figure out supplies. Not a bad way to avoid infection, really.

They would have over 20 years of propulsion power (it’s the ex Carl Vinson specifically because it was retrofitted and refueled in 2010) and after they settled somewhere, probably longer as they could turn off one of the reactors so it might work!

Provided of course that they clear sufficient land area for farming reasonably soon. I was eyeing the  California Channel Islands just today (the Carl Vinson is, and was back in 2013, based near San Diego - none of the class were on the Atlantic side at the time AND had reasonably lengthy fuel)

Dang. Going to have to sort out plans for ageing and children if the population wants to continue - although honestly I imagine they could safely wait 5-10 years and still have enough fertility, which is enough time to get farming established.

Tbh they could also take over an island in Hawaii or something but that would be mean. 

I think one concern about a California channel island is the military might America has on land - I do imagine they'd need to go elsewhere.

Of course this is all fanfiction of a fictional work so there's certainly wiggle room to make it work.

From a very casual google search, this is the breakdown of the US military as a whole -

Males account for 84.4% and Females account for 15.6% of the total. The Racial/Ethnic distribution of the Army is as follows – White, Not Hispanic: 54%, Black, Not Hispanic: 20.2%, Hispanic: 17.2%, Asian or Pacific Islander: 6.9%, American Indian or Alaskan Native: 0.9%, and Unknown/Other: 0.8%.


10-20% female population could be an issue although it can also reduce the risk of overpopulation as they settle into an equilibrium. 

I think part of the issue would be that they're career minded women so not necessarily keen to just be breeding factories. They'd also, ideally, be having multiple kids with multiple partners to increase genetic diversity.

However in the comic it seems like a lot of the first generation after Y0 waited until older to have children.  Juha was born in 38, Ensi would've been 37/38 - http://sssscomic.com/comic2.php?page=108

And if you do the math on Mia Väserström,  she had Torbjörn in her 50s/60s (she was alive pre Y0 and Torbjörn was 38 in Y90). Veeti as well - Taru was born about Y49, and Veeti was alive in Y0.

Honestly i think Minna just didn't consider the ages and just didn't want too big a family tree - but I do think the trend of having kids later right after an apocalypse is reasonable.

I think the ICS Steadfast went far out to sea first, and waited out the pandemic to get rid of the US army. After about a year or so they only have trolls and beasts to clear out. A couple of the California Channel Islands have no human population or just a couple park rangers, and the military ones have about 200 personnel.

This is based on that the Navy or the ship command had a very decisive grasp of the situation when the pandemic started (and even then the ship must have been on sea) to driven it out to begin with. Maybe they declared independence when they were told to come back for some general and the POTUS?
