Thinking about him pulling on a pair of thigh-high boots that somebody else bought for him and running all night in them on the very first wearing.  It also occurs to me that I miss the CatTank.
Great drawing, Wave! I really like that touch of colour. And poor Lalli! Running on rough terrain (actually any terrain) with brand new boots... Well, at least he doesn't put much weight over those feet.

And I miss the cattank too! What if we choose it as next week's prompt?

If I correctly understand the chemical process, if it is allowed to go on long enough the maltose will eventually ferment, but if it is interrupted partway through the result will just be that the complex starches  have broken down into simpler sugars, producing a sweet flavour.

Lovely picture Wave.  thank you!!

Maybe one long painful run will break them in just right.  My foot was a little bigger than my mom's and she used to have me "break-in" her shoes. (I'd stretch them just a bit.). She stopped when I broke in one pair and kept them.

I also love this picture! And now I want to go check Lalli's expression after that new-boot-run. (Or wait, maybe he used a shoe-breaking-in runo? Or is that too frivolous? Having read several Icelandic stave collections, I feel like it's exactly the sort of thing staves often handle, but those Finns seem more serious.)

On the other hand, Lalli is sensitive to irritating haptic sensations so a shoe break-in runo would be important for him. So I vote yes for it!

I know we have moved on a bit, but I could not resist.  For Jitter and Grey

Look at the food pics near the bottom.  :)
The purple thing looks like water pie (which is actually a thing)

Also if I could make a runo to keep shoes from hurting I would.

Hah, dmeck, the salad thing on the right actually looks a lot like a fruit desert my (sort-of-)father-in-law made! He took a watermelon and then shoved a lot of weirdly carved fruits onto sticks. I think they were meant to represent an autumn forest. I should have a picture somewhere.

And I forgot to say: I like the prompt of 'cat tank', but maybe we can make it broader and include other motor homes? In case someone wants to write about the prologue Finns on their boat, or about Rivi and Lani on a romantic shuttle trip?

All of this reminds me of the fact that we have the cookbook Dining on Babylon 5 around here somewhere.

However, I’m not entirely sure I want details on Rivi and Lani’s meals. Even if said meals don’t include anyone sentient.

I am pretty flexible on cattank or moving vehicles.  I still need to do a Lalli!!

I have had salads that looked that pretty (tasted pretty good also)
A lot of the other pretties are edible, but she uses a log of AGAR to achieve the effects.

Textually solid AGAR= blech! (OK if you add things like Fruit to make jam or jellies.  Though I am more used to using pectin, and corn starch or tapioca starch for a thickener)

Just a few thoughts:
Spoiler: show

I fully agree with the mobile homes as a prompt that would include the cat tank, the Hotakainen's boat and etc... Can the "etc" include an aircraft carrier-sized spaceship? ;)

dmeck, thanks! It's very interesting and if I had time I would attend it. I may not be a great cook, but I do like to use food to make nice designs over the plate! And the transparent purple thing... I must check on water pie, but I think transparent gelatin could do this nice-looking trick.

And there's another course there, about mating rituals...  >:D

I'd love to have that book in my hands... I'll see what I can find. As for Lani and Rivi's meals... I'll go check the deck 4 restaurant's menu.  >:D

Last but not least, I'm working on a very short story with Lalli, Emil (yeah, big surprise...) and a special guest!

If you want to think big, the Perry Rhodan sci-fi series gets to teleporting entire galaxies around, which makes them "mobile homes" as in "we live there, and we are in control of their whereabouts" ...

Humm... entire galaxies... O_o interesting. I did read (and enjoyed) the initial part of the series, but I didn't get that far. I only recall the use of teleport as a weapon, but my memories from that are 30+ years old...

A B5 cookbook! Fascinating!
And anent colourful food, a salad with differently coloured lettuces and endives plus whole nasturtium and viola flowers and petals of calendula and blue cornflower is both yummy and pretty, especially with added flower sprigs of mustard or cress for piquancy. Finely grated beets and carrots are nice as garnish too. No reason that nourishing food can’t also be delicious and pretty.

I have been feeling a little tired of writing, so I decided to go with something visual!
I recently got a set of paints that includes (two shades of) gold and silver, so I wanted to try some small medieval-style illumination (so, the photos don't show it, but the yellows/greys are all gold/silver). I am not very happy with these, except for their facial expressions, which worked out 100% as intended. The thumbnails lead to larger versions that show up all the flaws...

So, here is Lalli, in his haven, as an initial:

Since watercolor paper is pricey, I always use both sides. Here is Lalli's other side:

Those are beautiful, Tehta! I really thought they were original medieval drawings before reading your explanation. And they must look even better with the silver/gold shine. Well done!

BTW did you notice the we have "Lalli the Lynx" and "Onni the Owl"? :)
