What is it like there,
that Greek letters are unknown
to some world leaders?

Spoiler: omnicron • show
Seriously, I heard audio clips on the news with at least two world leaders (incl Joe Biden) think that the new variant is Omnicron instead of the Greek letter Omicron.  The variants are named in alphabetical order using the Greek alphabet, dudes, not after blimmin' Transformers.

Not a job I'd like,
to teach the greek alphabet,
classical or new.
Spoiler: show

As a mathematician, I know the letters by their classic names, and am used to seeing jokes, riddles etc. that play with said names (like, "µtant"). So when I heard that my dad had taken up Greek lessons, I sent him some - which fell entirely flat, because he was learning current-day Greek, with a couple millennia of difference between letters' names (e.g., from classical "tau" to present "taph").

Classical or new
Why not neo-classical?
I guess that works too.
