Yes, Rue is street in french. And the plant (Ruta graveolens) is the symbolic herb of regret because it is supposed to be the bitterest of herbs. I might argue with that. It is a very useful bitter tonic, as well as being used in protective magic. My gran used to steep a sprig of rue in cold water overnight, because the medicinal properties come from chemicals too volatile to be made into a regular herb tea, and she would drink the cold infusion in the morning for her arthritis.
