"We should absolutely check all the pods before leaving" he decides. "And a check if computers are right would be... good. Is there maybe some way to confirm they are dead without opening them, though...?" He has a feeling that if idiots like him open a pod without any knowhow, if the occupant wasn't dead already, they would quickly be. "But Robin could check these screens for out pods, she should check them for other pods, too. At the very least."

He's not worried about the closed door. Robin could fix it, right? And if this girl was Robin, then the other girl was Charlotte, right?

"Also, nice to meet you all. I wish circumstances were different."

Charlie nods at him. Even smiles a little. "Likewise."

Robin

"That doesn't work for me. We do have to move soon but I have to know exactly what happened here, if not now later. If there's the remotest chance of finding anyone involved in this I will find them and I will make every last one of them pay," Robin stares at him with dangerous eyes, leaving no doubt to what she implied.

"I agree", Charlie says, turning dead-serious again. "If there´s still someone who can be held responsible for this, I´ll make sure they will be."

She isn´t absolutely sure what this place was supposed to do to them actually, since her mom told her and her twin precicely when the bomb-sirens started that she had backup plans for such a worst-case-scenario. But she´s relatively sure freezing everyone for 200+ years, not guaranteeing that they would survive that and then leaving them behind was not what anyone here signed up for. It was definitly not what she would have wanted to happen to her or her family.

"Alright," she raises her hands and repeats the gesture asking for time. "I'm not prepared to assume the people who didn't wake up are dead. I don't know much but I know enough to know I don't understand this process. And until I do, unless they start to rot in the meantime, these people are not dead.

"We should be dead too. People have been talking about freezing people for ages but no one tries not for lack of a big enough fridge, they don't do it because it destroys your body. You need a way to preserve cells when freezing and another process to reverse it when thawing them. The people in the pods are intact. It points to the freezing procedure being successful. That doesn't... that doesn't mean—

Robin grasped for words. "Their bodies are intact, that doesn't mean they didn't die during the procedure. Big chances it's toxic to live, unfrozen humans. But it took a little time for the first failure message happen and unless we got briefly thawed in the meantime by energy spikes in the pods or something, I don't see how they could have died while frozen solid. None of us were technically alive.

"Remotely opening the pods means whoever did this didn't personally check the pods. Maybe the failed pods can't be thawed remotely because decomposition, maybe they simply trusted the logs and didn't try. The only people we're sure walked these corridors are the ones from sixty years ago and they weren't interested in us. As far as I know the staff froze us and left soon after, leaving pods unattended, otherwise why not remove the bodies?"

"If they're alive they're safer frozen until we figure how to reverse the process. We need to look for more information. We need security logs and radiation readings and..." Robin throws an odd look at them. "...are any of you diabetic?"

"Alright, works for me. Unless they're rotting, maybe something can be done" he says. That sounded like a solid enough argument.

"...no."

"... me neither. And finding more information sounds like a good idea. But I´m not so great with computers, is there any other way I can help?"

She needs to do something now. Something to make this situation better. Or to distract herself from it. She looks to the man who introduced himself as Nine and the other man with the British accent.

"If it´s okay with all of you I could join the two army-looking guys in finding other supplies. Or printed logs if they exist."

Robin

Robin nods absently, no longer meeting people's eyes. "We all should go, avoid splitting. Check the other pods on the way and understand our situation. Just... stay out of sight if we meet someone until we figure what they're up to." There's a quiet, dazed air about her made more evident when she's not addressing them, but she sounds logical enough she can't be out of it.

She starts towards the entrance, pausing by the curly haired guy. "Let me smell your breath."

Nine

Nine hears them talking, until Robin suggests they shouldn't split. Good, he prefers it much more that way. He wonders why she thinks it's important to know if someone is diabetic, or the smell of that guy's mouth, but decides it's time to speak. "For whatever it's worth, I'm not diabetic. And I agree with you. We should leave those people here for the moment, and try to come back later. They are as safe as they were for the last 60 years."

He points at the door. "Now, we should remain together. But let's make it the right way." He says, looking at the two obviously civilians. "First, we're six, and we move in pairs, not all at the same time, particularly when crossing an open area. We move fast, and silently, talking just what's necessary. We give some space between us, so if there's a trap just one person gets caught. We follow the same path and don't disperse or touch anything the lead didn't touch. Understood?"

He show his empty hands. "Right now we're unarmed, so all we can do if something happens is to go back and find cover. Do not run to help someone that suddenly fell on the ground. Find cover if you can and try to assess the situation before moving, or you can be next. Oh, and we must check if we can open and close doors, from inside and outside, so we don't get all trapped inside a room."

They are all looking at him now. "Look, I may be older person here, and the higher rank, but this is not a military operation, so I'm not giving orders. I'm just a guy with experience suggesting things so we all make it alive. In the end it's up to each of you."

Before anyone answers Nine looks at Robin. "Robin, you're light and probably fast. Would you take the lead? I suggest we check first that room with pods that..." He looks at the other young woman and realizes he doesn't know her name. "We should know each other names before advancing, don't you people agree? As I said before my name is Grey, but you can call me Nine. Can we know your name, miss..." He stops, waiting for answers.

Robin

Robin takes the opportunity to sniff the air as the man speaks, craning her neck and moving her head delicately side-to-side to sample it. She did ask nicely first, didn't she?

Whether she smells something interesting or utterly reviling she doesn't share, saying instead, "We're examples of successful thawing. I have theories. I don't have a lab technician at hand but every one of us come with a built-in, highly-specialized chemical sampler in the middle of our faces and I'm not afraid of using it.

"Also, sweetie your ass," she glares at him before turning her attention to Nine. He looks like military, the real thing. A bit unsure of himself maybe, pragmatic, should know how to handle weapons and certainly had all the field experience she didn't. She doesn't know what make of him but she moves to obey anyway, lingering by people just long enough to catch the odd whiff when they spoke. After the other guy reaction she doesn't bother to ask for permission.

Looking at Robin, and back to Nine "I'll go first. It can't be as dangerous as the frontlines of the resource wars in Arabia and France, I'll be fine. I'm Fairfax, by the way. Sergent Arthur Fairfax-Miller of the Suffolk regiment, a sniper by training and nearly a decade of warfare."

He walks calmly to the door without waiting for a response, then asks Nine "You clearly served, but, as we would say, which corps? You don't seem to be an infantryman like me, but I can't work out much beyond that you probably weren't a padre, dropshort or a bootneck."

"Oh, uh..."

Right, names. She stops herself from letting out some nickname out of habit. She´s too used to not using her real name. Having a sibling with the same name is fun, great for annoying people by answering for the other on purpose, but it usually ends with everyone demanding something individual to definitley set them apart. And as the twins both thought their full names were too old-fashioned, they aquired quite a big array of random nicknames over the years. At some point even they themselves started to call each other "One" and "Two".

But right now... wanting to be individual would feel like leaving him behind. If he has to be stuck in that goddam pod, she might as well carry his name with her. That´s the closest they can get to staying together for now.

"Charlie. Charlie Willow. But Charlie is fine."

Anyways, the guy seems to know what he´s talking about, even though she doesn´t apprechiate that he looks at her like she´s completely helpless. Or that he nominated Robin to take the lead, who seems to be more still in shock than anything else. But that kind of applies to them all anyways, so what does she care. Plus the British guy just went ahead.

"Alright, that seems like a solid plan."

She starts following the ones already going towards the door.

Nine

Nine hears Robin, and then Arthur. He was right about those two, it seems.  "Fair question. Archibald Grey, Major. Army, CIC. I served 18 years as a paratrooper, and our team was on every place where things were hot, usually behind enemy lines. We did recon, rescue, ambush... but usualy blew things up. I'm specialized in demolitions and heavy weapons. Once fought with your regiment, but it was a long time ago, you wouldn't be there yet. But they were good. Does that answer your question?"

Then the other young woman talks. Charlie. Fine, a good name. He nods to her and looks at the others.

Jay pops his head out from behind the pod he's been messing with. Ah, right. Introductions.

"I'm Jay. Mechanic for the National Guard, although I guess they're all kaput now. Used to be a welder, before I started working on vehicles. If you get me to anything with wheels, I'm your man." He nods to the group, giving them a friendly smile. It doesn't spread to his eyes.

Oh.

One of those guys.

"I haven't used my real name for half a decade. I forgot it after I got hit in the head by an encyclopedia that was thrown out of a library" Faust says before he can stop himself. "In any case. Faust is a name. It's good enough. If you don't like it, you can call me anything you want to. At this point I respond to most male names."

Robin

"It's been two centuries. No one left to care if you use your actual name," Robin grumbles to Faust over her shoulder. She stops by Arthur's side, taking in the hallway before indicating the room to the left with a quick hand signal.

Enough time had passed since they woke up her muscles now responded correctly to her mind. Nine had been right in picking her to help lead the way. It's not that she's just naturally light and fast; she is purposely so. Her counselor never suggested a role in which she might scout not for lack of skill—she was good enough to have never been caught sneaking about the fort. When you reach a certain level it's easy to mislead your overworked supervisors about your actual abilities. Robin falls into a relaxed instance, hands to the sides, slightly hunched to stabilize her center of gravity, and moves ahead, making little sound in the gaps between the warning still looping over their heads.

Faust looks completely unbothered by the two of them. He heard it all before.

Instead, he turns to Grey. "Just so we're clear, I take issue with you telling a kid go first. Not right" he tells him. He looks as the two of them go ahead. He's not sure if this sneaking around is necessary, after all he did yell for help quite loudly and nobody came to gun them down yet. If there were enemies anywhere, they wouldn't be this close.

"Charlie, let's go last. I'm unarmed and if something happens, I'm useless in a fight. Grey and Jay should be closer to those two."
