Robin

"Kid!" He approaches the girl and puts a hand on her shoulder, trying to gently pull her away from distress. "Don't. Move away from there. Help! Help!!" he calls.

"No," Robin snaps and shrinks away from the man, voice still too feeble to be heard far over the commotion. She wraps her arm around the bar for good measure and strains to see inside the pod, bumping her forehead on the glass as she misjudges the distance. Why isn't she moving?

Something is wrong, and that's an understatement. So many things were wrong she doesn't know where to start, her mind too slow and squashed by a monumental headache. They were supposed to go through decontamination, not cryogenics. Why were they put in cryo in first place? Was the bombing so bad they thought it'd take too long for the radiation levels drop? What would she do if she were the scientist designing this system?

Monitor and log the status of the pod occupants, for a start. From the warnings it was clear there was some sort of automated system in place. They'd need a system to monitor the radiation without stepping outside as well. Robin leaned against the pod for support, throwing a suspicions glance at the other people now awake, and set about trying to locate a computer terminal—or anything of use at all.

Terminal? (PER check): 1d10+6 15

Shit. Shit shit shit.
He messed up and now she's both scared of him and in distress. He takes a step away from her, looking at everyone.

Why is everyone so sickly?

He wraps his arms around his body, in foreign clothes, a strange place, surrounded by strangers who are clearly mourning the dead.

Well, most of them are.

"L-look" he says. Keep your voice calm. "How about everybody who has friends and family here leaves this room, and those who don't check the... thing." Be reasonable. Whatever is happening can be far less stressful than it is right now.

Off to the side of all the pods, there's a computer terminal attached to the wall.

Robin trudges past the pods with the awkwardness of someone who isn't ready to move yet but is nimble enough to correct course and recover her balance every time her legs faltered. For the time being she's content to just huff indignantly at the man trying to get them to leave, the entirety of her breath committed to the effort of getting across the room.

There it was, the exact thing she had been looking for. She powers through the last few feet, gripping the terminal's steel mounting with one hand and hitting the keyboard with the other to bring its display to life.

Sitting still and ignoring things sadly doesn´t have the intended effect. Instead of going away, the situation becomes clearer after a while. Charlie can now hear that the siren wants people to evacuate. She opens her eyes a bit to scan the situation. Even though there´s quite a bunch of pods in this room, only a handful of people are outside and alive. Not a good sign. None of them seem to be evacuating. Where the hell does this stupid siren even want them to evacuate to?

At least she has found the person shouting. A confused-looking man in about his mid-twenties with very long, wild, curly hair. The kind of hair-style One strives to have. She should show him... wait. No.

She gets up, now a bit more stable than earlier. They´re all probably fine. It´s just the doors. The siren says there´s some kind of malfunction, maybe they´re stuck. But blindly pressing buttons doesn´t help. Neither does cursing at it, expectedly. She considers kicking it, but that only works occasionally with electronics, so she´s not willing to take the chance of destroying something important.

"L-look" he says. Keep your voice calm. "How about everybody who has friends and family here leaves this room, and those who don't check the... thing." Be reasonable. Whatever is happening can be far less stressful than it is right now.

Charlie is definitly not leaving while her family is still stuck here. But sulking doesn´t help anyone either, so instead she starts wandering around trying to find some staff who actually knows what´s going on. Whoever is unlucky enough to run into her will have some explaining to do!

All the people she sees right now seem similary lost as she is though (and also wear the same clothing), so she figures none of them work here. In the end she does end up in front of a door leading outside the room. It isn´t locked. She peeks outside.

Apparently this terminal has been left open on whatever the person who'd been using it last had been checking. Green text on the black screen shows the following:

The hallway is completely empty. A large hydraulic door blocks the end of it, with a cart near it and several tools scattered on the floor. On the left side of the hallway is a pair of more of the top-sliding doors and a window that looks onto another room filled with even more pods. On the right side is another sliding door.

"No, this is wrong," Robin stares blankly at the terminal, feeling her hearth rate go up and breathing becoming harder. They can't be dead. The pods are malfunctioning. Their sensors probably are reporting incorrect readings, that's why the occupants weren't—

Wait, remote override?

She forces a refresh, reads and rereads the list a couple more times and navigates back to the main menu.

He is not feeling well, surrounded by all these strangers who are all unwell.
But he also isn't...

He can't do anything if he doesn't know what's happening, right?

He keeps a careful distance from the kid he scared, he doesn't want to make her uncomfortable too. He just needs to see what's going on on the screen.

...John Johnson. Sounds vaguely familiar. He squints his eyes.
Was he using that name before...? The... thing that he came out of is A1, right?

Ah, yes.
Okay.

Now he knows who he was when he got here.

Now, where was he using that name... Michigan? No, wait. Massachusetts.

Okay. Slow reconstruction.

Wait.

"How many days???"

On the left side of the hallway is a pair of more of the top-sliding doors and a window that looks onto another room filled with even more pods. On the right side is another sliding door.

Nothing? Now this is... deeply worrying. Charlie´s anger disappears momentarily. Sadly, so does her courage. She looks back into the room she came from. Yes, these people are all strangers, but at least there´s people. Maybe she´ll just get backup first before going into the weird hallway...

Also there´s the man with the cool hair and a girl maybe a bit younger than Charlie staring at a terminal or something next to a pod, both looking significantly shocked. They probably found something way more important. Charlie closes the door, carefully making sure she´s not accidently locking them in, and quietly walks over to the two at the terminal.

She didn´t catch what they were talking about until now, so she just tries to catch a glimpse onto the screen. But from her angle, most things are too small to read.

Robin

The numbers ran themselves in Robin's mind with seemingly no input from her. Someone behind her asks about the days but she doesn't answer immediately, the one hand hovering over the keyboard occasionally straying sideways due the violent bout of shivering that had seized her body.

When she talks again her voice is stripped from all highs and lows. "A bit over 60 years. We've been here for 60 years," she states, the lack of inflexion foreign to her own ears. "61. At least."

Her breath no longer caught in her throat. Her heart stilled. The realization had dampened her whatever emotions stirring in her before, leaving only clinical thoughts in its wake. She leans slightly to the side to allow an unobstructed view of the terminal to the people gathering behind her, selects [Technical Logs] and hits Enter.

He takes a step back before squatting down on the ground, running his fingers through his hair.

Okay so first, breathe.

He's been acting terribly erratic, due to how everyone around him was stressed and unable to think straight. Just like him, right now. So he has to calm down and breathe.

Okay.

So, this weird... thing. Claims. He spent several decades here.

That is a bit too... intense for a prank.

And kids don't act this well. Kids don't do death scenes.

So.

He has to come to some sort of a conclusion about it. Kidnapping seemed to be the most plausible one, he has no memories of coming here. He could have been easily overpowered if he was as drunk as he thinks he was.

However, if they were all kidnapped, apparently some with their families... There had to be some conclusion he should come to from that, too. Right?

...he's got nothing.

Okay but first of all it was weird that they're all getting released with no supervision. That's not how kidnappings work.

And at least a few of these people look as if they have some ideas on what's up. They knew where their family members were... or something.

Calm.

Breathing.

"What is this place? Why are we here? How did we get here?" he asks quietly. Someone ought to answer that.

Nine

Vault. He's in the vault, and that means the World ended.
Nine grabs momentarily the thin gold chain he carries. He mutters "Dead... Must assume they are all dead. Must move on."
He takes another deep breath and stands up. This time he's steady, and manages to walk toward the others. They gathered around a monitor. Nine arrives exactly when a young woman speaks monotonically "A bit over 60 years. We've been here for 60 years."

His eyes open wide. He moves to check the monitor, wondering how she came to that number. It's there, over 20 thousand days. The math is right. Unless the machine has a glitch they have been on ice way too long. He recalls people talking about 5 or 10 years, 20 tops, to reach a safe level of radiation and to go through the nuclear winter. And why the cryo? He heard about it, but the vaults weren't supposed to rely on that, right?

"What is this place? Why are we here? How did we get here?" A young man with unkempt hair asks quietly.
Nine looks at him, puzzled. He's about to speak harshly but remembers how confused he was a few minutes ago. "We are inside a vault, to survive the bombs. It seems that part worked. We came when the sirens began... I believe. At least I did that."

Nine looks around, not waiting for an answer. Another woman is coming back from the door, it seems she took a look but decided not to venture further. Damn, he's clearly the oldest one around, and by a clear margin. He's not the command kind of person, but for the moment he will have to try to organize things. Nine decides to speak to them all.
He clears his throat. "Hum... Well... Look, it seems you're all as confused as I am." Oh, how much he wishes to be better with words! But it's not the right moment to be shy. "You don't know me, and I'm not trying to assume any kind of command here, ok? But I see no immediate danger, and we need more info. I think it's best to go check what's out there." He points at the door, and then to the terminal. "while you try to figure something out of that thing."

There's a very tall man, slightly behind the others. Military, no doubt. Nine can tell just by the way he stands. "Sir, I believe it would be better if we did it in pairs, so no one goes anywhere alone. Would you come with me?"
