Some professional artists say reproducing painting of renowned artists as closely to the original as possible (aka doing master studies) can help improve painting skills. I decided to try it out with a painting by Repin, with predictably awful results.

Mélusine: It's a story that will remain concept art for a good while, that whole universe is basically my to-go place for speedpainting. Might do a picture book or a comic based on it later, though (after Catspaw is finished).

Sharion: Thanks! I'm not sure when it will be complete, but it's something I'm working on every now and then, so... sometime.

Mélusine: Yup! A chiaroscuro indeed. It's a method of painting I love to use, because it gets really striking results almost immediately.

John Candlebury: Not Bloodborne, but you aren't the only person to think that. It's actually part of a universe I made long long before I knew about Bloodborne, or before it was even released XD Thanks!

Awwwwwww, I love your new avatar <3 (And foxes.) I would be very interested by this story :)

Chiaroscuro fascinate me since I'm a child, we saw some Georges de la Tour painting in a museum, and I have wonderful memories of lessons on Caravaggio at university.

The middle picture makes me think of mazes, and the last one makes me think of frosting a cake with a basket weave design, much meticulous detail.  Knots are fun, and yours managed to be quite tidy!

I have a little WIP to show, which I drew in Paint, because it doesn't crash when I use my tablet.

It's Tristan, grown up!  And barely colored at all, and his cloak isn't Smathic, but inconsistent fashion doesn't matter as much as whether or not Paint is a viable program for drawing a webcomic.  Because I doubt I would be willing to actually paint every single page, the cost would likely be too much, and paper has no Control-Z to fix things.  Which I would really need...

Thanks! The main reason they are so tidy is because I used graph paper. The last one covers a whole sheet of A4 and took about 3 1/2 hours...  ::)

Mélusine: Thanks! Well, it seems like a lot of it will be told through speedpaints when I'm bored... this story may turn out to be my The Mysterious Mr. Quinn.

Luth Nightbreeze: Think that's carried away? This thing here has at a rough estimate 14 metres of that. I think it took me three times as long to do the Celtic knots compared to the figures... (the whole thing took 9 months to complete yaaay) But seriously, those things are fun and it's cool you're getting into it!

Waaahhh Lenny, Haiz, such awesome art! Although ALL the art in this thread is awesome, very awesome.

And hey, here's a sneak peek to what I'm almost close to finishing:

only the head because the body and background still need some work :D


(yep, it's also my profile pic) This too, is huuge in reality, so that the whole thing could maybe be printed in A3-size when it's done.
