Thanks mate! We have had a vile afternoon stranded in the heat when the car unexpectedly died while we were out doing the fortnight's shopping.  The RAA guy agrees with me that it is battery/alternator/electrics. The mechanic has lent us their loan car while they sort our car. Grumblemuttercurse......

On the subject of weather, I'm getting my yearly 1-2 cm of snow right now. Right around the time my mother's home area (upstate New York) is getting a blizzard.

And it just came on the news that today registered Adelaide's hottest day in the 130 years of weather records. Feels nasty here too. I've been out in it, just now got home. Having a cold drink, then going to put out some cold water for the poultry and wildlife. Our freezer has died, but I bought some ice on the way home.

The Mount Crawford fire is under control, currently listed as 'controlled' with seven appliances watching it. So we probably don't need to evacuate. Think I'll be sleeping fairly lightly anyway. One of the CFS blokes said it was a dry lightning strike. Hoping for some rain soon!

Everything in my part of the country is shutting down tomorrow for the coming arctic express. Businesses, banks, post office, schools, everything. I've never seen this happen before.

Seems when it's way too warm in one part of the world it's often way too cold somewhere else. Ditto with amounts of rain.

Good luck, everybody dealing with both extremes! -- expected to be pretty cold here, but not nearly as cold as in the Midwest.

Today was tolerable, mid 20sC. Which I'm glad of because I have been running around doing the endless medical appointments. Nicer to do on a day that isn't 40C+.

Sympathetic thoughts for those in North America and Canada. The news bulletins are scary. Apparently temperatures in Canada, Chicago and the Midwest are presently below those at Mawson Antarctic Base. Keep warm and safe as you can, all, and don't take chances you need not take, because I hear folk have died already in this freeze.
