My favorite anime of all time is Revolutionary Girl Utena, which is just absolutely gorgeous, but it's amazingly surreal and confusing.  (the english dub is awful tho.)  I'd also recommend Princess Tutu, which is just. super cute.  And I'll second the recommendations I saw earlier in this thread for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (although I actually preferred the manga to either anime), Ouran High School Host Club, and Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun (which is great as an anime but has much more content as a manga, so I prefer the manga.)

I'm going to have to third Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun, it's a really funny anime that likes to poke fun at a lot of shoujo stereotypes  :D But if you're looking for straight up shoujo, I think Victorian Romance Emma is a really good one, as is Princess Jellyfish.

Studio Ghibli movies are great of course (really hoping that When Marnie was Here gets an english dub!), and for other movies Tekkon Kinkreet, Tokyo Godfathers and Wolf Children. They're all really different, but I love them all!

ONE PIECE!

I'm more of a reader then a watcher, but right now I'm doing a marathon with my sister. Every week we meet up to watch OP and it's awesome! We just ended the Water 7 ark, so much feels! I did not remember half of it.

FMA, Shaman king, Ao no Exorcist, Naruto, Bleach, Ubell Blatt, Devil Devil, and many, so many, more are in my favorites too.... I very much like Japanese comicbooks > w<
I <3 Cats, Chats, katter, neko, gato.

So I spent the entire day watching One Piece. At least I did something productive, right?

Oh, and sister dear apparently was inspired to also watch the show (from the beginning). I stuck around long enough to hear Luffy utter one line, then ran away in terror. *shivers* Dubbings. There's nothing worse than a dubbing.

I'm not One Piece true fan to be honest, but I always enjoy the openings :D

Ouch, dubbing. Dubbing is evil, and anime dubbing is one of the most evil, as the dialogue is sometimes more changed/censored than not... At least if it's american-based, as polish anime dubbings tend to be.

I have been so obsessed with One Piece lately. I think I've written several thousand words of fanfiction. There's just nothing else quite like it.

I used to hate animes, mostly because I thought the art was so generic. And I really disliked the way they were animated (like when someone talks and their whole face is completely static except for their mouth, or how the only thing moving in the entire picture is the main character and everything else is just... frozen). To be honest I still dislike those things, but I have come to like anime anyway.

A friend of mine introduced me to Ouran High School Host Club last autumn, and after that I binge watched the whole thing. Since then I've watched Free!, and now I'm halfway through Haikyuu!!. I find this highly ironic since sports are my worst enemy but apparently sports animes are my lifeblood.

Some of the shows you guys mention sound really interesting! I've been planning to watch Attack on Titan for a while now, but I'll definitely be checking out some of the others as well :3

You might like One Piece, as well.  The artist behind that show has some really unusual character designs, and a fun style.  What's weird is that I can recognize most of the characters long after they've left the show, because every character is so unique looking.  Too often a show will just slap different hair and eyes on identical faces and expect you to remember that they're different characters.
Feel free to PM.

I think I've had that one recommended to me before, actually (although I had completely forgotten about it, silly me). Thanks for the recommendation! And yay for unique characters, it really is incredibly important

Oh, and I just remembered, I read the first book of the One Piece manga once upon a time. Now that I think about it, I actually liked it a lot C:

Haha, thanks Owl, but I've found it myself already ;) So much goodness to watch...

Sigrid, I'd definitely recommend watching some anime movies rather than series, too - usually (not always) they tend to have better story/animation/music, just because they're so compact and have more time. Any Studio Ghibli ones are recommended, but so are Wolf Children and Summer Wars.

As to shounen-type series that have original designs - Fairy Tail is a good one for that, also. I also wholeheartedly recommend Cowboy Bebop's series and movie. So so gooooood.

(I'd write more, but I'd overwhelm you. And most of what I'd recommend is in the thread already, and for good reasons, too ;) )
