A Winter's Tale
[A classic Finnish wooden cabin with a window and a lit fireplace. There's a thick carpet over the floor, and a rocking chair. Through the window one can see that's dark outside, and it's snowing. Tuuri, Onni and Lalli gather close to the window, while Ensi sits at the chair next to the fireplace]
[Tuuri, excited] "So much snow!"
[Lalli] "Hum... Lots of snow."
[Onni] "Can we stay with you tonight, grandma?"
[Ensi] "My dear children, if you were listening - as you should - to your parents, you would already know that tonight they are meeting some friends and asked me to take care of you."
[Tuuri] "See Onni? I told you!"
[Onni] "No, you didn't!"
[Tuuri] "I did! Back at the trail, before arriving here, near the last bridge!"
[Onni] "I don't recall anything like that."
[Tuuri] "Lalli, didn't I told Onni?"
[Lalli] "Hummm..."
[Tuuri] "Lalli! Com'on!"
[Lalli] "Yes."
[Tuuri] "See! I told you!"
[Onni] "Annoying sis!"
[Tuuri] "You are annoying! And deaf!"
[Onni] "I'm not..."
[Ensi, raising her voice] "Onni, Tuuri, enough! You three come sit with me by the fire, and I may tell a story before it's time to go to bed."
[Onni] "As long as Tuuri stops."
[Tuuri] "Oh, yes, a story! Please! One from the floating town?"
[Lalli] "Stories are good."
[Ensi] "A story from the floating town... Yes, sure. Let me think... Ah! I remember one! You're going to like it! The right story for a dark winter night! But it may be a bit scary..."
[Tuuri] "I don't care! It's all safe and cozy here, and I'm already a big girl!"
[Onni] "I don't know... I'm not afraid, but Tuuri will keep asking to sleep in my bed for days if she gets scared."
[Tuuri] "No I won't!"
[Ensi] "I think she's old enough for that, Onni. And you, Lalli?"
[Lalli] "Okay."
[Ensi] "Fine! So come closer and let me begin..."
[The children sit on the carpet, looking at Ensi as she watches the fire]
