Oh, neat! I'm only up to ep. 4, but I'm enjoying it so far. This may change, obviously, but at first I'm getting a "normal people in a sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal/superhero/etc. setting" vibe, which is something I'm rather fond of. Mages and superheroes and starship captains are great but it's fun to catch up with the people who don't have that super specialtude and still have to get by, whether they're specialists in dealing with the weirdness despite being non-powered humans or just regular Joe Schmoes. Our apparent protagonist seems to be in the former camp.

Excited to read more of this but right now it's bedtime. Thanks for the recommendation, JoB!

Oh, wow. Just... wow.

I finished reading The Sword Interval last night and it blew me away. I loved the artwork and monster designs and worldbuilding, but I especially loved the thematic development of the story - the idea that people are worth fighting for, no matter how hopeless and doomed things seem to be, even if it seems like you can't save the world. That cycles can be broken. I also enjoyed the characters! Thank you so much for recommending this webcomic, JoB!

So I'm currently read up to the middle of the Broughton Hall section and man, is it harrowing! The bit with the dragon and the legendary weapon was fun. This part? Less fun. Engaging as all heck. I'm still very much enjoying this.

EDIT: I just now finished up ep. 125, when Fall is revealed to have acquired...
Spoiler: show
a flask that infinitely duplicates any liquid put in it.

And I just have one question:
Spoiler: show
So how do you WASH that thing?

EDIT 2: Oh, one more observation, and a question for the language nerds:
Spoiler: show
The golem seen briefly in the prologue turns out to be Fall's childhood friend (and/or "friend"? but eventually friend) Reginald.

This reminded me of the Pokémon series, which features several golem-like Pokémon called Regirock, Regice, Regiseel, and Regigigas. And also Regieleki and Regidrago, which I only just now found out about. :P

Pokémon are almost always given thematic and/or punny names. There's a mushroom Pokémon named Amoongus (get it? fungus among us?). Pikachu is famously named from "pikapika" (sparkling, allegedly an onomatopoeia for a spark) and "chuchu" (an onomatopoeia for a mouse's squeaking or a child's term for a mouse itself). It evolves into Raichu, from "rai" meaning thunder, lightning/thunderbolt, or a thunder god. There's a seal Pokémon called Seel, and another, rounder one called Spheal (sphere+seal).

But the Pokémon wiki doesn't have anything to say about the Regi- prefix in relation to golems, only saying that it's from "regis," Latin for "royal."

And Reginald's CO, also a golem, was called something along the lines of King George. So: Is there some connection between golems and royalty and/or the Regi- prefix, or is that just a coincidence?

Well, obviously the flask has not yet made any liquid actually infinite (that's still hard vacuum in most of our solar system) and can be emptied (or how else did Fall get that coffee into it?), sort of a potentially infinite supply of whichever liquid. Pour some coffee into a standard thermos, empty flask, fill dishwasher water into flask, scrub, empty flask, let it dry (might be the hardest part ...), fill coffee back in.

I guess it works on intent? Otherwise, how do you empty it in the first place, and how do you keep it from duplicating the dishwater?

Also, I hate to be a complainer (at least, about this kind of thing) but I'm starting to think I'd prefer the artist just skip a week rather than constantly make comics about the fact that he can't make comics and has to skip a week. The story's still amazing, though, so putting up with that annoyance is a small price to pay. I just wish he had the option of doing what Phantomarine and Daughter of the Lilies do, and move the filler (most of it) to the Extras section instead of the main archive once the break ends. Guess Webtoon doesn't allow you to do that.

... oh, for the flask. Thought you're still talking about hiding the fillers.

How are you flipping between episodes, anyway? When I finish reading an episode, I'm near the bottom of the page and the thumbnails there are marked "Ep. 4711 ..." if they're proper episodes, or something else if they aren't ...

I’m now in the Broughton Hall and yeah, I’m going to say this part is definitely more horror than action. Anything beyond this I would be unable to enjoy. However I also note that comics is the most palatable form of horror for me - “live action” film is too vivid and I get too scared, and my own imagination is too vivid and I get too scared :) But this is ok even for me. If it gets even mor on the horror side, please send me a warning by PM, ok? I want to keep reading, but I don’t want to lose sleep!

The world and the design ideas are fascinating! Especially the giant bones as landscape.

If it were to go beyond that, shouldn't I be posting a trigger warning publicly? And ... doesn't this depend a lot on what you consider scary? :3 (There are fungus clowns in some Q&A episode ...)
But no, I suppose that by the common standards of the horror genre, it does not get worse than Broughton Hall.
... maybe skip episode 180, though ...

Ok, thanks. I know it’s hard to know how someone else would feel! And as I put on the opening post already, readers here can be expected to be generally horror-tolerant.

So please don’t take this as a reprimand! I don’t mean to complain but to share how I feel about it. It is well within the limits of what can be expected to be interesting to SSSS fans, and a lot of similar themes so it is indeed fascinating! I’m glad you suggested it. I wouldn’t have come across it otherwise!

Also I very much like the way magic is depicted in the different colors and symbols. And the way many things take me back to my D&D playing days, particularly the “legendary weapon” (Linebyline I loved that part) but many others too :)

I did mention Ben's unfinished one, didn't I ... ?  >:D

He would've been much more limited in its use if he hadn't had The Flask boosting his supply, though. 8)

Edit to add: It seems that Ben's currently holding hope to launch his next webcomic, The Beekeeper's Tale, around the next turn of months! (The existing preview's only available through Patreon, I'm afraid.)

Okay, found this thread, but not without search functionality.

Derelict was nice enough comic, so I need to check the Sword Interval out.

@Cancvas do you mean that the forum structure is confusing and therefore this was hard to find? If so, do you have any ideas how to make it better?

The Sword Inteval is great! I know I said it already bu it bears repeating.
