Point of order, depending on the lore in question that's usually elves with the hole in the back. Huldre generally are just fae women with cow tails, generally a kind spirit that watched over your fire while you nap in exchange for some of your food, also some lore elaborates that if a guy marries one in a church the tail falls off and they turn into a loving and devoted, and depending on translations unattractive woman.
I've read some cow-tail stories too, that's about right! No prob about calling this a Norwegian elf Lauftroll instead, huldra just sounded a bit more compact (and in some stories they do have a hole in the back, or their backside looks rotten or like tree bark - but that's folk tales for you, they can blend or mix up different creatures).
Btw fun fact time again, Icelandic elves don't have anything that you could use to tell them apart from humans, they're just really, really beautiful and have everything just slightly better than us. Nicer clothes, astounding jewellery, better cattle, in today's lore it basically goes that their cars are fancier than yours.
The bad thing is that some of them like to use humans as playthings, f.ex. massacring whole families for Christmas sport. Even the ok-ish ones turn horrific if they're angry and they don't much care where their revenge hits. There a story of a woman who found a beautiful scarf and decided to keep it even when the owner - and elf lady - asked to have it back, so the elf drowned her sister, who had done absolutely nothing wrong. A happy elf can be friendly (unless the elf is happy because it just murdered your whole family and plans to spend the Christmas dancing in the now-empty, blood-splattered house) but even then all depends on if you made the
right elf happy. If another one feels insulted or jealous, bye bye.
in retrospect I probably should have asked Laufey first
AHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAA BEST (and I feel a bit like trying to figure out how to make a Laufeytroll head for, uh, cosplay reasons)!!! No no no, no one needs to ask my permission for doing something awesome like this!
This is brilliant, and btw if someone ever does decide to dress up as the Lauf I'll be wanting photos.
