Dear danish people,

I asked google. And I am really confused. I am applying for that job and now I am getting insecure because: After a first request I was adressed by first name. Now I am unsure, if I can adress that person by first name, too? She surely is older than me and in the higher position. On the application letter I did use the more formal version because, uh, I am used to it. But in the Email uhm... I really do not want to seem like I am ignorant about other people's culture and living with a stick up my back....

Whelp.

I know in Iceland you would just use the first name and it would be strange to do otherwise I'm pretty sure Denmark is similar, but I am not 100% sure. Hang on let me go find Lainer...

I'm here

kjeks how do the person end their own response? I mean do they use their full name, or only first name?
If you're not adressing a company, but a specific person, I'd use first name. No formal titles or anything.
Does this help?

The person ended with a standard electronic signature XD so first and last name. Okay, maybe I will try out the first name.

thanks for the quick help! I will overthink it a bit until tomorrow. XD and then start duolingo danish, just in case ;)

It's not that big of a deal here, how formal you are. In any case, people will more likely think you're weird for being formal when it's not necessary, than the other way around. In workplaces you're on firstname with everybody, even your boss. So don't worry too much about it.

Good luck!

Hej Ace!

saga = historie
