This is certainly news to me. How do we know it's French vanilla, specifically?
Several varieties/cultivars/terroirs of vanilla are specifically French, notably Bourbon vanilla (made in the French island of La Réunion) and Tahitian vanilla (made in French Polynesia).
(although the most common vanilla sold on the market is Madagascar vanilla)
