We were discussing it in the Italian NaNoChat when someone said that my nick was... ambiguous. I told her that it had been my friend's idea, and that she liked nymphs. Magical beautiful creatures, of course she liked them! Then someone else awakened a memory.
Apparently my nickname comes from Nimphadora Tonks -_-

Tonks! She was actually my favourite out of the HP crew.

And then J.K.Rowling had to kill her and everyone else I liked...

G.R.R. Martin does this all the time ;). I got used to it pretty much. So much that I'm still reading in amazement through the secong book from the wheel of time series, wondering when the first main charr will finally die.

Yeah, I got used to that fact that it's always my favourite character who bites the dust (not always, but often first) and I got pretty could at predicting who's going die. It's a game, but one I play with a heavy heart...

Its somewhat like chess. There mostly the pieces I like best die first (ordinary farmers, horses and runners. I'm too lazy for looking up the correct translation at the moment ;) ).

Peasants, knights and bishops?

Generally we call peasants pawns instead, but the other two are right. Although... now I think of it, I only know the UK and AU chess translations. Other places might call them something different.

Soldiers, horses and ensigns/standard bearers in Italian respectively. I tend to get confused in chess quite a lot when I refer to horses as knights because I'm used to the English term.

Ah, you're actually right about the pawns. Then there's rooks. In Norwegian we use bønder (peasants), springere (leapers), løpere (runners) and tårn (towers).

I have a bunch of old chess boards (one viking themed) but I haven't played in at least a decade. I've never one a game of chess so... not my favourite board game.

Off topic: it's one of those overcast, humid, rainy summer days today, and I love it<3 That type of weather is the best.

Back on topic: Hmm, I only know the English names properly. I needed to know them properly in order to play with friends. With family, anything went. I think the Dutch names are mannetje (little man), paard (horse), bisschop (bishop), and kasteel (castle), but that could just be my family's personal naming schema, heh. Actually, I'm almost certain that's my family's personal naming schema... I think I need to go refresh myself as to the official chess terms. Soon.

My usually trusty laptop just messed up and killed the picture I was working on - one for the Secret Santa. :'( Ok, I was just experimenting with GIMP, but I really liked the results.

Now that I've looked it up, I actually remember it XD So, it's pionnen (pawns), paarden (horses), lopers (runners), and kastelen (castles).

Eish, Clayres... I know that feeling all too well. Did it make a backup at all (some programs are nice and do this)? If not... well, it means you get more practice in, haha... Dutch comfort, sorry.
