So, I'm going to jump in this discussion here.  Sorry if I'm interrupting a conversation!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here uses a solid state drive on their computer, and how it's working out for you?
I ask because my computer's hard drive may be dying, so I'm looking at a potential replacement.

I have a solid state drive in my laptop and it works really well. I personally find that it works a lot better than my last computer, but then my last computer was 8 or 9 years old. It turns on and off really fast, and runs well. I've also heard that it's more durable, so if you're moving your computer around a lot, then solid state would be better. It was more expensive to get a solid state drive though.

I have a 250 GB SSD and 4 TB HDD on my desktop so I get to have the best of both worlds: SSD's speed (I have Windows and the most important programs installed on it) and HDD's space. I can't personally compare performance with and without SSD, though, since the specs with my previous and current computer are worlds apart. But my flatmate replaced their laptop's HDD with an SSD and that really sped up rebooting. (Which was good since that laptop crashes a looooot.)
The only downsides to SSDs are price, lesser storage capabilities and a potentially shorter lifespan. On the other hand, they're more durable (not a factor for desktops, but with laptops that is something to consider), faster, don't suffer from fragmentation and generate less heat (so they're also quieter than HDDs).

Well then, just got an email from my host. Turns out there's been too much traffic today and they had to shut down my site temporarily? :/

I think that's a first and worth celebrating :D
