Interrupting your regularly scheduled discussion for a short PSA to US-Americans.
I just found this somewhat creepy website while browsing, it's essentially a wide open phone book that lists your age, relatives, current and past addresses, everything that can be gleaned from public and online records. I tested with the few American minnions whose full names I know and yes, you're on there. In case anyone finds that as creepy as I do, this tumblr post has instructions on how to remove yourself from the search.
Hm, they don't seem to know I exist. *enters sneak mode*

I would write or knit while Vi would watch sport because I don't like that, but shhh... ::) Of course discovering the country is the first reason ! :D Something is telling me I would be so enthusiast !

That's me pretty much everywhere.  I *love* exploring on foot and finding places.
Keep an eye on me. I shimmer on horizons.

After a really spirited attempt to stay upright all the way to work I have now made up my mind. I need crampons.

EDITing to add: prepare yourself, Europe, we're loading up another one. :P

(The Bárðarbunga volcano is likely filling up with magma at the moment, so we're watching it for the following year. There's no telling when it might go bang though, with volcanoes you never know before the ice layer above starts to cave in - yup, it's a sub-glacial one and that means looooots of ash.)

If there's one thing that's been relevant this winter, it's crampons.

Well at least that looks easier for us English speakers to manage than Eyjafjallajökull

Although I wonder how many will call it "Bardargunga"?

Oh you don't say. Reykjavík city seems to have exactly two approaches to icy streets: either build hot water pipes underneath so the streets never ice over at all, or just complete neglect. If there's any gravel it's a light sprinkle that just rolls out from under your shoes, making an already bad situation even worse.

No doubt we'll have all the fun we can. A specifically Icelandic sport is to hold long, weird Icelandic words in front of foreigners and ask them to pronounce them, giggling as they fight their way through them.

With enough brennivín that would be fun.

Next Icelandic novelty sport: Dress up as a tourist, "accidentally" walk by above athletes, bumble through English as badly as you can, and then deliver a flawless pronunciation of the Icelandic typeworm presented. Watch out for a subsequent challenge to a sprint race.

We could try it here. Start a thread and have different people submit insane looking words in different languages. Then record ourselves trying to say them.

I think we even did that for a while on this very thread/ or on chat... when vocaroo came up. And also we had something either here or on the language board were people posted texts in their own language and we read them out loud. It was fun!

Ooooh! Let's revive it!

Edit: I found this thread https://ssssforum.com/index.php?topic=162.0
We could revive that thread and use it? Or we could just start a new one since the content is a little bit different.
